The Wild seem to be on some sort of surge lately. I think we are tenth in the conference, just beat Edmonton tonight, but still last in the division.
If the Wild can make a smart move or two at the deadline they could sneak into the playoffs and make my day.
Opinions?
They've got a winning record in the toughest division in the league so I'd say yeah, they have a decent shot at the playoffs.

Hate to have to play the Wild in the playoffs.
Hopefully Ottawa ends up in 1st again so if the Bruins get the 8th playoff spot we play them. Winning the last 3 games with 2 shutouts against Ottawa is a bit of a confidence boost.

fernandez and roloson are both UFA at the end of the year arnt they?
if the Wild did trade one of them, they wont get much for a rental player. Especially not St Louis.
Only way I could see the Bolts trading him, is if they have Richards ready to sign a long term contract. Richards is a free agent at seasons end too, and TB probably wont be able to afford him without going over the cap.

Theo gone to the Avs for Aebischer.
The ONLY good thing about trading Theo to Colorado for Abby is the removal of alot of money. We save a lot of cap space now, and can then be aggresive perhaps tomorrow.
Otherwise Theo will return to form next season and probably be better then Abby, but for now, this trade is good, considering theo had an off year and plus he was injured.

Recchi goes to Carolina
For a 27 year old rookie (Niklas Nordgren), waiver trash (Krystofer Kolanos, 4th team for this guy this year) and a 2nd rounder in 2007,
Great trade for Carolina.

Pittsburgh has no choice. They can't afford a top tier player. They're just trying to survive right now even with a salary cap.
Bruins trade Sergei Samsonov for Marty Reasoner and Yan Stasny.

I'm pumped about Vancouver getting Noronen and pretty happy about Carney. Noronen is a 2 time winner of some top prospect award. He's still young and I think this move will allow Vancouver to move Cloutier next season. Cloutier is ok, I think he's gotten a bit of a bad rap, however moving him out for a tandem of Auld and Noronen will free up more cap room for the Canucks.

There is no greater satisfaction then watching the Habs kick the Leafs asses.
Bruins fired GM Mike O'Connell as of 6 P.M. tonight.
I can't blame the Bruins office for being pissed off that all the moves they made failed at producing a winning season. I still say that trading Joe for Sturm/Stuart/Primeau is good for the long-run cause the team can build around Patrice Bergeron and Brad Boyes, and have Sturm be the scoring leader. Problem is that this isn't the year for the Bruins to do it, they need an off-season to change their game around. Hopefully the new GM will jump start next year's winning season.

Tell me someone else saw the Sens vs Ranger games tonight. Jesus if you really needed any more proof that the Sens have amazing depth/kick total ass look no further than this game.
Gone from the lineup:
Chara
Redden
Phillips
Fisher
and of course Hasek and Havlat
Final score 4-1, Rangers get out shot, out played (though I admit that might have to do with the significant amount of penalties), Jagr gets completely shutdown (except for a nothing assisst on a nothing goal) mostly by the 20 year old Rookie Meszaros (amazing way to bounce back after one of the worst games of his career against New Jersey). The Sens without 3 of their top 4 D-men still manage to win and win convincingly, as I've said before when the Sens are motivated, almost nothing can stop them.
Also I fucking love watching Tyler Arnason play.

Well keep in mind how much longer the Canadiens have had an NHL team. 13-14 years might seem like a long time but really if you think about it most hockey fans start as young children, the era where young kids grow up watching the Sens is only really begining, in another 10 years or more it'll be a different story.
It was a great game and an interesting atmosphere (I was there). Some really stupid chants though such as the NA NA NA NA Hey Hey Goodbye chant, that one was just nonsensical and just plain dumb. If the Canadien fans were louder it's also because they had really much more to cheer about by the end of the game. It's really a shame the Sens had their top 4 d-man out or the game would have been (esepcially in the third period) much more interesting. The first two periods were kickass hockey though, well except for the non fight lol.

Darren McCarty files for bankruptcy
Associated Press
<!-- dateline -->Detroit<!-- /dateline --> — Former Detroit Red Wing Darren McCarty, one of the city's most popular professional athletes in recent years, has filed for bankruptcy.
In documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Detroit, McCarty listed assets of $1.9-million (U.S.) and debts of $6.2-million.
In addition to at least $185,000 owed to casinos in Detroit and Las Vegas, he listed debts to banks, credit card companies, friends, utilities, law firms and a roofing company.
McCarty, 34, said in court filings that many of his assets are tied up in insurance polices, his NHL pension and $490,000 in business loans that are unlikely to be repaid.
McCarty played 11 seasons for the Red Wings. The defenceman's combativeness, charitable work and sideline as a rock guitarist made him a fan favourite. McCarty also scored the winning goal in the clinching game in 1997 as Detroit won its first Stanley Cup in 42 years.
The Red Wings bought out McCarty's contract in July after a lockout of NHL players cancelled the 2004-2005 season. He currently plays for the Calgary Flames.
McCarty listed his income as $2.1-million in 2003, $1.5-million in 2004 and $193,959 in 2005. According to court documents, McCarty received $538,729 from the Red Wings when they bought out his contract, but his ex-wife Cheryl received 75 per cent of that -- $404,046.
Marty Fried, McCarty's lawyer, blamed the bankruptcy on last season's NHL lockout, the divorce that was finalized in February, 2005, and a smaller contract with the Flames.
“He's not making the money he used to make,” Fried told the Detroit Free Press in a report published Wednesday. He said McCarty now makes about $850,000.
The Free Press said it could not reach McCarty for comment.
