Without revealing any spoilers, about how far do you have to get to unlock Integrity 2.0 with Lazlow?
If you're on the hospital/coke mission, probably not too much further.

Ok, poll time people.

When you did the mission for francis, when you had to clear out the drug den, what did you do to Clarence when you got him cornered on the roof?

A- Killed him
B- Let him live
C- Loose Cannon

Just interested in what other people did.

Every time that option has presented it's self, I've picked A. Fuck B.

In fact I've used the shotgun to shoot and quite often one shot is enough.

During the game I was using A as the handbrake instead of RB and also using weapons to kill people within the game.

This game is fantastic. I got it at the midnight release at my local gamestop, which had a line of about 5-600 people. Had to get there like 4 hours early to get a decent place in line.

The only gripe I have is that there is way less optional/bonus activities and missions than in previous GTA games. But I understand that this is due to the jump in technology from the previous gen GTA games to this. Just as VC and SA had way more to do than GTAIII, the next game (or possibly the DLC) will obviously address this. Either way, hella fun game. In fact, I think it is time to pick up Brucie, get drunk, and go bang some broads.

Stay Alpha, bros.

Finally unlocked Manhattan.

Gotta say...my biggest annoyances so far are that:

A) Every mission I find myself having to drive halfway across the map to save my game (I turned autosave off because I like screwing around with cheats when I'm not doing missions and I don't want it to save on me and screw up)
and
B) There is ALWAYS a cop there when I steal a car. Like every time. The wanted level is easy enough to lose, especially since the cop is usually just on foot...but it pisses me off that I can't really commit a crime without getting noticed.

Aside from those little annoyances...I love this game.

I just got the game this past Friday and I am quite amazed with it.

I've read about some people having issues with vehicle control, although I haven't really found any issues. I find that driving while in 1st person is much easier all around...which is hilarious. I couldn't quite pull it off in San Andreas well enough to make it enjoyable.

I'm kind of iffy on them re-releasing the old maps as-is (though I just believe that's a reference to SA). While, yeah, they were great, but the new Liberty City set a new standard for detail.

Honestly I'd rather see them re-done than re-textured and with the GTAIV engine thrown on top of it.

Overall, though, I think it's more realistic that they release the three cities than the entire map. Though this opens a new problem in "where did the rest of the map go" when you can just go between the three like their connected.

Kalyx triaD
05-12-2008, 02:54 PM
They need to remake Vice City first. Miami ftw.

But most likely it'll be the surrounding land [they already coded and mapped] before they decided to make Liberty City deeper.

Yeah, people are gonna need more space. GTA is gonna sell some 120gigs.

Where did you get the idea of them just "re-releasing the old maps"?

This SA rumor has been going on for a couple of days now and I'm not buying it. There have been these kinds of things in each of the GTA games so I don't see why it would be any different this time.

Xero

I honestly don't believe they'd recreate something as big as SA as only DLC anyway.

05-12-2008, 03:40 PM

Regular Deathmatch is horrible.

Mainly because of respawning. I can't count how many times they put me in a place where there is another player stacked to the nines, closer to me than any weapon.

Sometimes get killed 4 times in a row, before I can even make it to a decent gun. Sticking to team games, from now on.

In deathmatch, the only weapons in the city are in the small area decided by the host. You can go anywhere in the city, but there are only weapons in that area. And if I could get to a sniper rifle before the ass right next to me with the ak-47 and body armor kills me.

The game does start slow, though. I mean, it takes you like 3-4 missions just to get a fucking KNIFE. Also, it's pretty easy to escape the Police this time around.

Those are my only real complaints so far, and since they're all so fucking small, none of it's enough to make me knock the game. Though I wish they'd do a GTA where you had a full Create a character like Saints Row. It's doable. I know they have one for online, but I'd like one for the main game.

I started doing Vlad and LJ missions, thinking maybe that was it, and I've done several Vlad missions and LJ isn't on the map anymore, either. It is also beneficial to call up your friends and hang out with them once the opportunity arises, even if their icon is gone from the map. You can check your friends' fondness of you in the stats menu of the game. The higher the better, as each friend usually has a nice little perk they can give you that you can call them up and use at any time once you're to that point.

Yeah, I knew that. Yeah, the online mode is just soo much fun. I play that for like 2 hours after work, then spend an hour on the normal game.

Free Mode sucked when I was on it this morning, though (2AM EST). Someone had it set so that everyone was invincible somehow. Me and another guy just stood there and unloaded into one another and we wouldn't die. Stupid and pointless, really. On top of that, everyone was using 'tard-speek' or something. I have to say, this game has some pretty big flaws. Starting with, the physics are rubbish.
Certainly not the 10/10 everyone makes it out to be.
Bit of fun though, I finished the Final mission last night, now to get stealing cars I guess.

Kane Knight
05-25-2008, 06:56 PM
The game is insanely fun. But yeah, the physics are trash. For a game where you spend so much time in cars, you'd think they'd have a driving engine worth a shit. But still, when you enjoy a game this much, you tend to not mind the flaws. Not a 10 of 10, but I'd say 9 is fair.

What's hilarious, BTW, is that people were wetting themselves over a guy giving the game a 9.2. I haven't seen that much of a fuss over a rating since Army of 2. And this one was over a game getting a 9.2 for fuck's sake.

Requiem
05-25-2008, 07:22 PM
Um.. what? Not really sure how anyone can have complaints about the engine. Yes, driving is more difficult, but it's also more realistic. Once you're used to it, it is way more fun than driving in any previous game. Each vehicle has its own physics, including noticeable suspension differences and weights/handling differences. They might have touched it up a little to lessen the complaints, but it is far from being 'trash'.

The other physics in the game are amazing. The Euphoria engine is a modern piece of technological art. Can't wait to see it expanded on even more and used in more products to be honest.

Kane Knight
05-25-2008, 07:40 PM
LOL. I don't generally play GTA games, so they may have made the driving more realistic. But more realistic doesn't necessarily mean "good," And it sure as fuck doesn't actually translate to "realistic." The stopping alone should be an indication that it's not really realistic.

Purgatory

This is why I've gotten used to driving in 1st person. To me, it's just so much easier control-wise. Otherwise, you have to futz about with camera angles, as it never really seems to be content with pointing in the direction you're driving. The 'Cinematic Camera' is pretty cool as you can toggle between slo-mo and regular at any given time.

Character physics are hilarious, though. I crashed a NRG-900 into the back of a car going a zillion, or so, mph. I flew off the bike and ricochetted off a street light. :-D

Currently, I've got the phone in Sleep Mode so it's not constantly ringing...started to piss me off after awhile. I've decided to find and complete all the Stunt Jumps and locate all the damned pidgeons...which is proving to be a monumentous feat. It's like I'll find them when I'm really not looking, then hear them and take forever to find them.

Bad Company

lol piece of modern technological art.
It's like they designed 5% of the game and filled the rest. Fences shouldn't collapse when I fall into them, and should when I hit them with a truck. This game lacks alot of polish.

Having 20 different cars with different physics is not impessive.

I quite like the driving though, didn't have an issue with that. Except the erratic changing of lanes by the cpu cars when I'm on a mission. That's dodgy as fuck. Go the first person view though! :D

Kane Knight

I agree with quite a few of those, though most of them are minor quibbles at best. The control mapping is kind of retarded, I've gotta say, and complaints about things like cover are legit, but still minor. Especially with cover, where it's about on par with everything that's not Gears of War. The complaints about the voice acting and whatnot, are again par for the course. And is the dialogue flat and to the point or is it overcomplicated and awkward?

Also, no midmission checkpoints can be annoying, especially if it takes you five or more minutes to drive to the locales.

Boomer
05-26-2008, 10:27 AM
I took a cab to nearly every mission I was allowed to. I got pretty sick of the drives around town by the end of the game.

Still enjoyed it immensely. One of those games I can imagine myself picking back up again to do the extra stuff at some point...but not now.

Kane Knight
05-26-2008, 03:13 PM
And if they all allowed cabs, that would almost make up for the lack of checkpoints and shit.

Also, another little bit that bugs me. Sometimes, I'm in the middle of nowhere and I kill someone, and the cops are on me in seconds. In one of the missions, where I'm asked to snipe the guys at the Construction site, I took one of them out, and the cops were able to poinpoint where the shot had come from in like ten seconds. These are the same cops who can't find me if I duck into an alley slightly away from a crime scene, but they can poinpoint a sniper shot in seconds.

Granted, this is a flaw with damned near EVERY GAME in the genre. Hard to really single this game out for doing it.

Purgatory
05-26-2008, 04:25 PM
Yeah, the cops just appearing out of nowhere really irritates me too. Especially, if you accidentally fire off, there's noone around, but they automatically pinpoint you. They should just have had them report to the crime scene and only go after you if you're still there...which you shouldn't be.

Also, shooting inside your apartment...I understand they take into account that some neighbor heard the shot. HOWEVER, you exit the building and they automatically know it was you. It's actually hilarious at the same time, but still. They're easy enough to outrun as long as you're constantly changing vehicles and they don't see you doing it.

Kane Knight
05-26-2008, 05:03 PM
It's manageable. It's just occasionally enough of an inconvenience to piss me off. Like once in a while when I'm on a "date" or meeting up with a friend to up my approval with him and something happens. Now I'm on the run with an actual deadline. Or in a mission. Like with the sniper mission (Or rather, the mission with a sniping part) I mentioned before, you get swarmed by the cops by the time you get back to the ground.

And with sniping, I really think the bullseye should be focused on the victim, not the shooter. I mean, if you're actually discrete. Obviously, if you pull out your sniper rifle in the middle of the Exchange and plug someone just down the street, then for God's sake, you should be busted. But if you're doing it stealthily and carefully (Not to mention, remotely), the only immediate sign should be that someone was dropped.

Q: Is euphoria a physics engine?
A: No, euphoria is not a physics engine. euphoria simulates the human (or animal) motor nervous system on Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 and PC. One can think of it as biology meeting robot control theory. euphoria integrates with a game's existing physics engine, which provides the basic body physics (commonly known as 'ragdoll physics'). euphoria adds life to the dead physics simulation. In short, ragdolls are dead, floppy bodies. euphoria characters instead are alive and adaptive.

Yeah, there's a roagdoll physics emulation program called Endorphin, which was used in part as well. It's one of the other tools, along with Euphoria, that falls under Natural Motion. I had a demo for it, which I found pretty cool...considering I could ever actually figure out how to use it fully. It came with some sample scenes you could manipulate, but I never really figured out how to create my own scenes. I've seen some make wrestling vids on Youtube using it, though.

I never said it was a fucking driving simulator. But compared to the older games, this game has a much more realistic driving engine. Each car has its own physics based on weight/suspension, and ride height, as well as center of gravity. Not to mention damage affects driving. That's more effort into realism than any other game of this type has tried to do in the past.

Kane Knight
05-28-2008, 05:02 PM
Which, as I said, may be true, but it doesn't make the driving realistic.

Although with the number of people complaining about the driving, I'm more prone to believe that it really isn't more realistic, and that you're full of shit. But whatever.

Again, I never said it was. I said it was more realistic than before. And it is. The old driving was nowhere near realistic. At all. The engine as it is now, is miles ahead of those old systems. They have taken many steps in order to make driving much closer to how it would really be and feel. While nowhere near how it would be if I really jumped in one of those cars for real and pulled a maneuver like in GTA, it is getting pretty damn close the farther through the series they go.

I'm not trying to say that a video game is the most realistic experience you're going to find, but the driving in this game is fine. If you're going to pull that 'number of people complaining' shit, then I'll go there too. Plenty of the reviews on this game mentioned the driving, and plenty of them agreed that while different it became second nature and they had no problems with it. And I am positive that I'm not the only person on TPWW who agrees with my opinion on driving. Let's just group together all the people who don't like it though and automatically assume that since multiple people share an opinion it must be right. That makes me prone to believe that you're a fucking idiot. But whatever.

Xero
05-28-2008, 07:38 PM
The driving is miles ahead of the GTA3 series and I quite enjoy it, but it's still far from perfect. I could name quite a few things wrong with it (the biggest being that it's a bit too slippery) but it more than suffices.

On another topic, I'm getting pretty tired of people (not necessarily here) saying that it should have had this-or-that from the previous games. These people don't realize that GTA4 is just the base game for this generation. It was NEVER meant to have the polish and extras of SA.

If they were using the same engine, yeah, those would be good complaints, but this game, as far as I know, was built from the ground up. Sorry that they didn't spend time on adding multiple-sized Nikos and 1000 different hair styles. They were too busy trying to get the basics worked out with, for example, ragdoll physics (one of the big complaints people had from SA from what I remember) and didn't want to delay the game another year or two to get it to SA standards.

As a standalone game, it's complete. Comparing it to the third game of a different series, at which point they had perfected that gen's hardware, is just silly and unfair. By the end of this gen I'm sure we'll be seeing SA being left in the dust, with the kinks worked out and omitting the mistakes they made in the past (IE: Mandatory eating).

In retrospect, LOL!

The driving is miles ahead of the GTA3 series and I quite enjoy it, but it's still far from perfect. I could name quite a few things wrong with it (the biggest being that it's a bit too slippery) but it more than suffices.

I can name a major one. Cars turn while using the brake. Actually, there's two, since cars don't stop very well in this game, either. I wouldn't mind if I was unable to do an appropriate corner if I was going flatout, but everything moves like weighted by a few extra tons when it comes to stopping. Magically, it's as though someone dropped four tons of weight on my front end.

I dunno. I don't expect complete realism, but it would be nice if I could experience some realism when doing anything other than driving in a straight line or crashing.

Getting back on a bike has never been a problem, getting in the right car when you have caused a crash can be though....a small annoyance though.

I don't give a shit if the driving is realistic or not....it's grand theft auto not gran turismo.

Mr. Monday Morning

YEAH

Oh I seeeee. Well that I can agree with. Although, in some of the chase missions, if you can just stay within a reasonable distance of the target and just concentrate on not crashing then eventually they will crash at a set point. Doesn't always work though - generally if you can get within a few feet then you're going to have to take care of things yourself. Or hope there's another crazy driver on the road.

/rant

I never buy this. It's ridiculous to say that it's acceptable to have major steps back because they were doing X or Y.

Also, it really cracks me up, because the "Ground up" argument is brought up so often, and almost 100% of the time, it's not true.

I'd settle for "doesn't suck." But then, I expect to hear a response of "I don't care if it's good or not. It's Grand Theft Auto, not Good Theft Auto."

"Realistic" seems to be a euphemism for "crappy," and an excuse for a poor driving engine. Saints Row had one that made for a fun game without being either horribly cartoony or realistic. I don't see why I should accept a shitty driving engine based on someone else's argument that it's improved and more realistic.

The problems I pointed out as unrealistic? Yeah, they also make for a bad driving engine.

Honestly, if you have to crash someone, I'd stay away from a motorcycle anyway. Unless it's a mission where they'll crash themselves. I mean, you can shoot at them, but on a bike, ramming them to crash them or even just to screw them over is suicide.

I actually prefer the bikes, but mostly because I prefer the philosophy of maneuverability. It's easier to escape when you can drive on tight sidewalks and through narrow alleys, but when it comes to actually stopping someone, it's not as good. The keeping up part is fine....

When it comes to simply chasing someone down, I'll use a bike. Like the Puerto Rican Connection, or whatever it was called. It was easier for me because I was less worried about any traffic that wasn't potentially a sideswipe.

Plus, they handle a little less like ass. Not a whole lot, but enough to make a difference.

I know you're fucked if you get hit, but my general philosophy is not to get hit in the first place. It's bad Aiki.

They didn't take major steps back, though. Everything they did was a major step forward, all they really did was leave out some of the more in-depth (and mostly annoying) roleplaying aspects and made the scope of the map smaller than SA. Other than that it's an improvement in every aspect of the game.

I'm talking about the petty compaints like planes, (which obviously wasn't a technical issue), tanks, crazy shit (parachutes for example) and a lot of character customization being left out (the latter of which I do admit they could have done more with, but the extent SA had was just ridiculous).

X. I wanted that crib more than money. Plus, they both annoyed me, bu X annoyed me more. Now Dwayne's all emo on my ass, though.

Also, I just lost points with Little Jacob. Apparently, I hadn't called him in a while? :wtf:

On top of that, what's with these text messages? Kiki and Alex will text me to tell me to call them and take them out, then when I do, immediately, they tell me they don't want to for some reason. Brucie calls me every thirty seconds if my phone's not on sleep...Grrrr.

Also, can you ever "score" with Kate? I keep "trying my luck" after taking her out to see if anything happens between Niko and Patrick, but so far, nothing.

While I'm on the subject, you ever notice the lines Kate gives? It's funny hearing her compliment Niko's nice new car, then complain about the life Packie and Niko lead...Where do you think he got the car? :D

I went with revenge mainly because I read a spoiler in EGM and didn't want Roman to die. I only took Kate out once.

For those who don't know, killing Dimitri gets Kate killed at Roman's wedding. Working for Pegorino gets Roman killed at the wedding.

Kane Knight
06-05-2008, 05:06 PM
By the way, Cheats only block acheivements when they're on. Like, The Guns and Ammo shit blocks "Cleaned the Mean Streets." Except, you know, I got it on a save where I'd used the Guns, Ammo, Health cheat. All you need to do is use the cheat, save, and reload. Or just don't go for the GS Points while they're active.

DISCLAIMER: This might not work for all cheats, I don't know.

Also, and I'm only posting this because I was told otherwise, but you guys know you can enter a cab as a passenger without whistling and even when there's a passenger already, right? Often times, when I'm locked up because I've just been forced to dial to check in with whoever I did a mission for last, I'll stand in front of a cab and wait for Niko to hang up.

Like i said, people kept saying otherwise, that the only way to catch a cab (Besides Roman's, which you can call) is to whistle and then wait for it to pull over. So if everyone knows that, then....

Ah well. Instead, I did that fucking motorcycle chase for Gerald. It was funny, because I managed to make the dude I was chasing slam into a Police car. Then I spent the rest of the day "dating" and "hanging out" with people because everyone was getting lonely. Then I managed to crash Brucie's chopper under one of the bridges.

On top of the MeTV building in Algonquin. Go to the alleyway behind Splitsides Comedy Club, and take the windowwasher lift up. Climb the ladder, and it should be there.
