I think the Colts could go 16-0 if they beat the Pats.

They should be 8-0 going into that game

Week 1: Thurs 8:20 TEN vs PIT Loss (TEN just might have the Steelers's number)
Week 2: Sun 4:15 PIT vs CHI Win (Cutler won't have fully jelled with his new WR corps)
Week 3: Sun 1:00 PIT vs CIN Win (PIT and CIN always seem to win at the other's home)
Week 4: Sun 8:20 SD vs PIT Win (With few exceptions, PIT usually owns SD)
Week 5: Sun 1:00 PIT vs DET Win (Not happening Lions, no way, no how)
Week 6: Sun 1:00 CLE vs PIT Win (Maybe an ejection or two this time, refs?)
Week 7: Sun 1:00 MIN vs PIT 0-0 Tie??? (a defensive touchdown might just win this one)
Week 8: Bye
Week 9: Mon 8:20 PIT vs DEN Loss (DEN is always tough on MNF)
Week 10: Sun 1:00 CIN vs PIT Loss (see Week 3)
Week 11: Sun 1:00 PIT vs KC Win (Cassel's not going to be enough)
Week 12: Sun 8:20 PIT vs BAL Win (4 in a row over the Ravens)
Week 13: Sun 1:00 OAK vs PIT Win (Our fans are as rabid as yours, Al)
Week 14: Thurs 8:20 PIT vs CLE Loss (Browns' best chance is catching us on a short week)
Week 15: Sun 1:00 GB vs PIT Win (after traveling to CHI last week, the Pack will be beat up)
Week 16: Sun 1:00 BAL vs PIT Win (at 10-4-1, PIT demoralizes the birds and clinches a first-round bye)
Week 17: Sun 1:00 PIT vs MIA Win (PIT rests key players, but better make sure guys get a taste of the heat for next month in Arizona)

Buck's not a good football guy in my opinion. Baseball he's fine, but in football he doesn't keep up with the game and doesn't seem to know that much about it. Plus I'll never get over his Randy Moss moon call.

Aikman's not bad, but he, like almost every other Fox commentator takes the game way too seriously. The CBS guys have a nice, relaxed demeanor where their job is to present the game to the fans in a manner that's entertaining and exciting. Fox guys seem like they're doing a crappy war documentary.

Dirty Birds bring in Tony Gonzalez for a Second round pick in NEXT years draft.

I gotta say I am VERY happy with this deal. We get a leader and a stud at the TE spot. Makes Ryan even better, and now we can focus our entire draft on defense this year and not have to think about taking Pettigrew.

Heros Welcome

I look at it like this. We gave up a second for NEXT years draft. The focus is now 100% defense in this draft. We still have our comp picks for next year with Boley and Foxworth going elsewhere.

We gain a leader and a guy who can still ball. I mean he had 96 catches 1058 yards and 10 TD`s on a bad team. I think if anyone got the shaft value wise it was the Chiefs.

Going into the draft, i really wish the Colts would make a power play for Aaron Curry, but i dont think that will happen at all. I really like this guy. I've read his blog on SI and i just wish we somehow had the oppurtunity to select him.

Maluaga may be there at #27. Doubt it though. I really think the Colts can get the same type of DT in round 2 or 3 that they can get in round 1 so i doubt they pick a DT. Percy Harvin seemed like the choice until he toked up like a moron, so i doubt that we'll pick him.

Knowshon Moreno might be ther and he might not. I dont know. If he's there, i'm positive the Colts would take him because Addai hasnt show much the past 2 years and he'll be due for that extension soon and i dont think Indy wants to pay him if he's not worth it.

If Knowshon isnt there, i dunno. I've seen Lauranitis attached to Indy, but Indy dont pay LB's at all. They've let a ton of them go. I'd be suprised if they took the 2nd best middle LB in the draft. If Maluaga is there, they take him. If not, i dunno.

I've seen Brian Robinski attached to us too. I cant see it happening though for 2 reasons. 1) They can get him in the 2nd round and 2) They have a player just like him in Gonzo.

My feeling is that Indy takes Hakeem Nicks, unless Knowshon Moreno is there. But if Kenny Britt is there and Knowshon isnt there, I think Indy takes Britt over Nicks. If Moreno and Britt are gone, then its Nicks.

RP
04-24-2009, 10:38 AM
Wayne restuctered his contract too. Indy might be up to something here. They might move up in the draft or make a trade for a reciever who is being offered like Bolding or Edwards. Not sure. But restructering a contract before the draft is kind of unheard of for the Colts. Something may be up here.

RP
04-24-2009, 10:44 AM
The reason i think this might be to make some sort of move is because Indy was 7 Million under the cap and had more then enough to sign there draft picks. I'm wondering if they make a move up the board to get a higher pick.

I'm on the fence about whether he can play CB in the NFL and I'm leaning toward no. He's got decent speed and really good hands but he's got a mean streak that's so rare at the CB position. Personally I think he'd excel as roving safety. But either way he'd be a good pick for the Saints.

Yeah, it's between him and Beanie on most mocks ATM.. I really think we should go for a OLB or a DB (as I've thought for the past 3 years) but the thought of getting a big bruising RB, who's been compared to Clinton Portis, is getting more and more appealing the closer to draft day we get.. It's fine if he'd be a better fit at Safety cause we def need help there too and we haven't drafted a safety since 2006 (Roman Harper) but we've gotten CBs like every year (Usama Young, Tracy Porter, etc).. Harper in a great tackler and a head hunter when brought down to the line, but is very weak in over the top coverage, which we desperately need.. Tracy Porter was well on his way to becoming a shut down corner, until he was injured and Usama Young is a natrually atheltic DB, but shines more as a nickle or dime..

I am torn..

Very good mock. I honestly dont see Pettigrew goin to the Jets, but It is a remote chance.

But the Rest is hard to argue with. Th Broncos would be off to a great start to the 3-4 with those picks.

I know Sanchez to the Seahawks is popular pick, but they can make t he playoffs this year possibly, so I think they go with someone who can make and impact RIGHT NOW.

I went with Pettigrew to the Jets because I think with Maclin not falling to them, I can see them showing value in a blocking TE who also has a presence over the middle, and then they can split out Keller to the outside in some sets.

Also they'll be a run heavy team, its nice to give Leon and Thomas some more space with the best blocking TE in the draft.

With Sanchez...Yeah I fell into the hype of him to the Seahawks. I mean they are a good team and just got hurt bad last year with injuries, but with the chance of the future QB to succeed Hasselback, I think you have to pull the trigger. I would be worried of a QB at 33 with back problems.

True. Good points on the Jets. It would make sense. Honestly they could probably upgrade a few spots with the pick, I wouldnt be surprised to see them take Hakeem Nicks or reach for Heyward-Bey to replace Coles.

Sproles will never be a feature back. He can be a great Reggie Bush like weapon, but he cant touch the ball 25+ plus a game.

They would be well served to take a look at a grinder like Beanie or Shonn Greene, maybe even that kid from Liberty!

I'm happy with the Giants first round selection of Hakeem Nicks, WR, UNC. I wanted the Giants to take him over some of the other WR prospects (Heyward-Bey, Britt, Maclin.) Nicks seems to have the prototypical size teams look for in a WR. Hopefully he can supplant himself as a solid #1 for the G Men.

<font color=goldenrod>I dunno I kind of think I wanted Britt more than Nicks...but I trust Reese. Obviously I would have much preferred Boldin or Edwards but what can you do. I will say though that their WR core is the key to their season next year. They have awesome D, a great line, and a fun running game but the lack of a big wideout crippled them once Plax shot himself.</font>

Love the Jets trade. Brad Ratliff has had 2 hall of fame preseasons and has a cult following amongst Jets fans, but he has never taken a snap in a real game. Bunch of Jets fans have a huge hard-on for him though, me not so much. Abram Elam was really inconsistent and was already replaced by Jim Leonhard anyway. Coleman was decent at best but totally replaceable. Nothing special at all. All I see this as was a 1st, 2nd and a minor inconvienence at DE.

Not totally sold on Sanchez, but it is definitely worth a shot. Pretty huge markout moment at the draft too. Would love to go to a draft.

Jets could really use another offensive weapon too, Cotchery will never be a double coverage guy and I think people tend to overrate Dustin Keller. Plus I doubt Thomas Jones can put up the same year as last. Leon will hopefully have a bigger role as well as Brad Smith . likely Dwight Clowny and Chansi Stuckey will have a shot at a lot of playing time. Stuckey from Clemson  and Clowney is an absolute beast. He has a shot to be huge I think. Plus we could pick something up tomorrow.

Kind of rambling about nothing here

Oh wait it did. They traded two 3rd rounders for a TE that was projected as a 5th rounder at best. AMAZING!. What can they do tommorow? Can they trade John Elways HoF rights? Like literally trade his legacy to the Falcons or something for a 4th and 6th rounder?

That's the big conspiracy theory flying around. And I said it in the thread in casual. He's a sleeper agent planted by Belichick. That, or he's the Devil.

I give our first day a D-. We had Orakpo gift wraped with a giant bow. But McDevil had to have his pet project and draft Moreno. And as RP pointed out, traded our 2010 1st round pick to Seattle just to grab a CB early in the 2nd. Just a stupid move, we could have waited till pick 48 or whatever we had in that round.

I can see the ad in the NFL times this morning now. "For Sale: Runningbacks. All injured last year, little experince, lots to choose from. For info, call Denver Broncos."

Peria Jerry, William Moore, and Chris Owens

I gotta say when our pick came up I said its either Matthews or Jerry. I felt Matthews was going to be the pick since I felt his value at 24 was very high, he is a very versatile linebacker, and its a big need for the Falcons.

We go with Peria Jerry and I am not the least disappointed. Mike Smith coming from JAX where he had that defense with those big DT running the middle of that D line, like Marcus Stroud, gets a guy who can come in right away and work next to Babs and really sure up our D Line.

Then at 55 we go with William Moore. I thought it was either him of Michael Johnson. We take Moore who is very quick and has a great size at SS. He had an off senior, but his junior year was extremly promising, I expect good things.

Then at 90 we go CB by taking Chris Owens. I don't know much about the guy, but i've been watching some videos and he seems to be a very smart corner. He seems to have a great read on the ball, and knows how to minimize his mistakes.

All in all I am happy with our picks thus far!

Ok, now i got a question, and i hope someone can answer it.

I do love football, but know veruy little about some aspects of it, so i was wondering what the heck it means for the team, and the player involved when a team puts the "Franchise tag" on a player.

FearedSanctity
04-28-2009, 10:04 PM
From Wikipedia:

In the National Football League (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League), the franchise tag is a designation a team may apply to a player scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_agent). The tag binds the player to the team for one year if certain conditions are met. Each team has access each year to only one franchise tag (of either the exclusive or non-exclusive forms) or one transition tag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transition_tag). As a result, each team may only designate one player each year as that team's franchise player (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franchise_player).
Usually reserved for players of great skill or of high importance to the team, a franchise tag allows a team's manager the privilege of strategically retaining valuable free-agent players while seeking talent through the NFL draft or other acquisitions without exceeding the League's salary cap.
If the designated franchise player elects to play for the team that designated him with the franchise tag, and does not negotiate a contract with another team his one year salary is guaranteed.
If a club withdraws their offered contract the player immediately reverts to an unrestricted free agent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_agent).

Damn, played against 2 kids in HS that signed as undrafted FA's; Chris Pizzotti who signed with the Jets & Bobby Abare who signed with the Chiefs.

Also Ellis Hobbs is not that good so I'm totally fine w/ him leaving. Pats secondary was awful last year so I'm fine with a little bit of an overhaul. All this talk about him returning kicks but he got so many opportunities because he stayed getting burnt for touchdowns.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
04-29-2009, 02:00 PM
To Hobbs' credit though, he always played hurt and his toughness really can't be questioned. It's not really his fault he was thrust into the role of #1 corner last year, which he definitely isn't. He was the #2 corner for an entire season on a team that was one TD drive away from going 19-0, so you gotta take that into consideration

Krimzon7
04-29-2009, 04:40 PM
No, you don't Jesus. This dude was the number two corner in an aging secondary who had a top 10 front seven in front of him. He also had a record setting Quarterback AND Receiver who consistently put up 28 points in a year when they were one TD Drive away from going 19-0.

For that matter, who gave up that one touchdown???

In a cover 3, it is his responsibility to handle the deepest threat in his third of the field. The slant isn't his responsibility. Plaxico was. If I'm not mistaken Burress didn't catch a 5 yard strike, it was a 25 yard stirke. You give up the short stuff to prevent the touchdown bombs.

I reiterate, he choked, blew the coverage, and he slipped trying to make up for his fuck up. Poor discipline to not trust the Linebackers.

yeah, Hobbs is a nickle guy, who had to play all the time... he's not that bad because he's very fast, but he's also very short.... So, any jump situation he's screwed.

Plus side is he's a good returner.

but, he wasn't going to play much with all the picks/signings so I'll take the pick for him.

I love the talk of McDaniel being a Pats spy...

<font color=goldenrod>rofl some guy on the Giants' message board ordered a #88 Hakeem Nicks jersey from a local shop as soon as he was drafted, wanting to be the first person to have one and figuring Nicks would want his college number and would get it because jobber backup TE Michael Matthews (who will probably be cut unless there is an injury) has it.

Instead, Nicks is wearing #18 and since he specifically asked for it from Feagles...likely means that's the number he will be wearing as a Giant.

This is now the third time Feagles has cashed in on his teammates wanting a number. Eli paid for a Feagles family vacation to Florida to get #10, then a year later Plax paid for a brand new grill/kitchen area to get #17. :o Wonder what Nicks gave him.</font>

You are wrong.. He was thinking about retiring him and Ted Thompson made the decision to go with Rodgers.. Favre wanted to retire a Packer but they forced him out.. I guess I'm one of the few Packers fans who really don't care much about this. Green Bay's a better team without him at this point, and I'm not entirely convinced that the Vikings will be that much better off with Favre than they would've been with Sage Rosenfels. Both quarterbacks are going to give you just as many interceptions as touchdowns, and with Favre the Green Bay defense already knows everything that makes him tick.

It'll make for an interesting storyline, but it won't make much difference in the division race in terms of the big picture. Minnesota still has no receivers and Adrian Peterson needs to prove he can stay healthy for a full season. Chicago finally has a quarterback but they don't really have any receivers, either, and that defense is aging. Green Bay's pretty well rounded, but they have questions about the running game and their schedule is absolutely brutal. Detroit's still a couple years away from even getting to .500.
