I shouldn't say overrated, but his stats are only so good because he gets so many looks because his team sucks.

Not that they've had much success with Kobe in the lineup at Portland.

I shouldn't say overrated, but his stats are only so good because he gets so many looks because his team sucks.

that would be true if he was shooting 40% but hes not hes shooting over 46% also i think is #3 in the league in steals with 2 a game a

so really he can shoot as much as he wants as long as he continues to shoot a great percentage

the only other possibilty to take roys place is chris kaman since the west doesnt have a true center

lol yeah Mike Rice, he is absolutely ridiculous

Been announcing for like 25 years, definitely approaching senility if he isn't there already.

He makes the game infinitely more entertaining, and it's hilarious listening to the other Mike (Barrett) having to yank the leash every once in a while when he starts getting too excited. He also drinks heavily throughout games lol

He is the man

With that said, I would absolutely loathe him if I were an opposing fan.

It's one thing for a fan to say it, but announcers shouldn't be flat out homers and should try to be the least bit professional.
Also have to realize that everybody in Portland hates Kobe Bryant so it's generally accepted.

But I do agree with you that Mike Rice is way too much of a homer. Literally argues with every foul call. But I love the old man.

Other Mike (Barrett) is way more down the middle, though.

It's one thing for a fan to say it, but announcers shouldn't be flat out homers and should try to be the least bit professional.

You have to consider that the main audience for these "homer" announcers will be fans of the team they are covering and if the announcer was a former player or had experience in the NBA, they going to look at things differently than a regular announcer. For example, Tommy Heinsohn is a fanatical homer announcer but that's because he' really shows off the passion of being involved with the Celtics since he's been a former player and announcer with the team for the last 50+ years.

Do agree that its the worst when its a national announcer team like ESPN or TNT who just covers one player or hypes up a match-up while ignoring the rest or has no real attachment with a team except for ratings or marketing. For example, ESPN's over-coverage of Cavs vs Lakers for NBA Finals and TNT's focus on what Lebron decision is on the Dunk Contest at the cost of focusing on the current contest.

SammyG

OMG TRADE KOBE AND BYNUM WE ARE SO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT THEM

..jk

Icess
02-11-2010, 02:07 AM
The question is could you do it?

You couldn't get value for Bynum at this point, at least I don't think so. Though if you add Kobe for someone (say Wade) and add a 3rd team and grab another young All-Star; well, it certainly becomes plausible. Kobe is aging, and Bynum is plagued with injuries. You certainly will have to look at this conundrum at some point to stay competitive.

I'm not suggesting it, I just want to make to make a point of the depth of the squad. Artest still frustrates me (as shown by an awful game tonight), and I'd still rather have Ariza at this point. That said, Odom and Gasol have played extremely well, and roll players have stepped up their games.

It is conceivable that one could plug other young individuals into those spots. The future baby.

Loss to Orlando hurt.

Depends if Cavs make a move (or an Allen/Baby move), but I'm not sure they can continue a run. Age and injuries are a bitch.

Just bad luck. How soon do we forget CP3's MVP (almost) run?

SammyG
02-11-2010, 02:16 AM
I'm sayin the Hornets beat the Celtics.... if I read that ESPN bottom line correctly...

and there is no way in fucking hell I would trade either Kobe or Bynum, you kiddin' me?

Icess
02-11-2010, 02:30 AM
Neither would I. It doesn't make sense today. We have the ability to win the championship this year, why would you screw that up?

That said those guys are playing their asses off right now, and if for some reason younger guys like Wade or Durant plus others based on value that were offered... Well, there is reason to consider.

You switch Wade for Byant today, plus another solid guy based again on trade value. We're still in the hunt, if not still favorites. We lose the best player in the game, but it's not infeasible.

I've seen a way to get Blake, Caveman, and Beasly in a three-way. I don't think I could pull that trigger, but we'd shave money off our cap. We'd also make an extremely young team... Well, younger. Just not as unreasonable a theory as you're making it.

Skippord

so people who know basketball and enjoy more than me

what are the Denver Nuggets chances of winning an NBA championship this year?

Icess
02-11-2010, 03:00 AM
Depends solely on health. If Chauncey and Melo are healthy, you have an extremely fast team. I realistically think you are behind Dallas and LA. Matchups are key, but I predict a repeat in the WCF (as I said before). You're kinda like the Hornets 2 yrs ago. It's gonna depend on who you face (if healthy). Playing the Suns round one, or possibly the Spurs might hurt you.

34% at best.

CNM
02-11-2010, 04:39 AM
Dallas is ahead of the Nuggets? LOL. That 36 point loss on Tuesday sure showed that.

Icess
02-11-2010, 04:57 AM
In a 7 game... Yeah, I think Dallas can pull it off. I also said I expect the Nugs to the be in the Western Finals. Nugs are simply too complicated.

Would be funny if they also involved the Globetrotters as well since they always do crazy stuff in games.

I believe the dunk contest started to lose its specialness once they started to hype storylines and not on the dunks themselves. Last year was horrible just from the commentators alone who either made fun of a few dunkers or kept talking about Nate-Dwight/Lebron.

I'm not saying that I want a sideshow, but the reality is there are no NBA players worth watching willing to do a dunk contest.

Agree since it would help refresh the dunk contest and help the popularity of And1/Street style basketball. NBA already allows WNBA and the D-League to be part of the All-Star break so it would make sense to include others in a "contract"-style agreement.

Even though it's retarded to have any all star game decide home field/court advantage in the finals it should definitely be basketball instead of baseball, because the NBA allstar game is always such a fucking joke. Nobody plays defense, all they do is try to set up some ridiculous dunk or have Shaq shoot 3 pointer. It's not like there is much fooling around to do in baseball, they play it like a normal game.

Jesus Shuttlesworth
02-15-2010, 02:19 AM
I don't get why that makes it a joke. It's not serious competition but it's still entertaining to see what some of these guys can do when they are out in the open.

West did an awful job with 5 seconds left, let's just throw it to 'Melo and make him force up an ugly contested 3 point shot. I know it's the All Star game but why not actually draw up a play? The East did a couple times at the end coming off of time-outs.

I would definitely put Shaq as the player of the decade if he didn't drop off a bit towards the end. He was unreal in the early 2000's, on those Lakers teams he was the man no doubt about it, and Kobe was Pippen. Shaq also has the best line of the decade, "Kobe, tell me how my ass taste?"

I'm not a Kobe fan at all, I actually think he's a clown for all the bullshit PR stuff he does now (like using his daughters for props or showcasing his wife that he cheated on) to make up for the fact that he banged a snow bunny in Denver and she bugged out. He's been pretty unreal on the court though for the last decade.

Been hearing that Nate Robinson might be coming to the Celtics. Would hate to lose Eddie House but after watching him get abused by Darren Collison the game before the All-Star break I can see why this trade could happen. I'm assuming Robinson's D is much better? I haven't really seen him play very much to be honest.

I bet if the Lakers were 0-6 in the games he was out he would be back, but they've been playing pretty well so there's no point to rush back.

Especially with that McGrady trade being rumored and draft picks probably going to Houston if that deal happens.Pretty sure the only guy the Celtics have drafted since they "got good" who has stuck around is Glen Davis. He wasn't even drafted in the 1st round either, so I don't see losing the pick as that big of a deal.

That's interesting he doesn't play any D though, there's gotta be a reason why they are looking to get him. Maybe they think he will be better at running the point or something, seeing how Eddie House can do really well is catch & shoot.

I would rather have Jamison than Amare. I know Amare is an All-Star pretty much year in and year out but I just don't know how good he would be not playing in the Suns system. I think Jamison is a better fit for the Cavs.

Apparently it might not be a pick and is House and Giddens instead. Not really sure what the point of the trade is for the Knicks if this is the case.Giddens was a 1st round draft pick for the Celtics 2 years ago (think it was 2 years ago?). I know they've seen him down to the D-League a few times, not sure how good he would be getting minutes. Think it's tough for him to crack the rotation in Boston.

Maybe he has an expiring contract or something?

I thought it was suppose to be House, Giddens AND the pick for Robinson. I've at least heard that once. Getting sick of the speculation though, just make the trade already lol

Dragon
02-18-2010, 01:14 AM
Yeah, I think both House and Giddens are expiring contracts, although I think I heard one has a team option or something. If there's no pick it just seems like swapping expiring contracts which doesn't make a ton of sense for the Knicks since Nate's gone anyway. Either way this deal isn't really anything for the Knicks. Nate was fun to watch at times but he obviously wasn't gonna be here long term.

I just want the Knicks to deal Jeffries so they have the cap space for 2 max contracts next year. Nate doesn't really affect that unless he brings back a draft pick/bargaining chip.

Juan
02-18-2010, 01:58 AM
The Sacramento Kings have reached an agreement in principle with the Houston Rockets on a trade that will swap Kevin Martin for Tracy McGrady, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Along with Martin, the Kings will send Sergio Rodriguez, Hilton Armstrong and Kenny Thomas to the Rockets. Joey Dorsey and Carl Landry will go to the Kings.

If I was Ainge, I'd be saving on the draft picks for bench building since last year's draft the Celtics only had 1 pick and ended up getting rid of the player a few months later and the other pick was given away from the 2007 KG deal.

The Cavs really benefited a lot from their trade since ESPN is saying they will get back Ilgauskas after 30-days since he was used more for making the salaries equal.

NBCsports:

Nate Robinson did not play Wednesday against the Bulls due to flu-like symptoms, and if the reported trade sending him to the Celtics happens as expected, he could be in uniform for Thursday's game against the Lakers.

He flew to L.A., and barring a huge surprise he'll be a Celtic come Thursday. Anything can happen between now and the trade deadline, but as the C's are constituted now, Nate-Rob projects to be a gunner off the bench -- and a poor man's Jamal Crawford sounds like a reasonable outlook.

Jesus Shuttlesworth

I dunno, the whole point of this trade today to get rid of Jeffries was to ensure they can issue two max contracts to free agents this summer. They can be a good team with LeBron, another max free agent (Bosh), Chandler, Gallinari, etc...

The Knicks basically gave up last years 1st round pick, 2012 first round pick and the swapping of 2011 picks to get rid of Jeffries and have the cap space.

Donnie Walsh's main goal was to go big in this free agent class and he's set the team up to do that. These are the Knicks though so chances are they fail miserably.

I do think LeBron will stay with Cleveland though.

Who calls Time out?

lol....yknow, im not gonna be mad...Lakers put up a good fight without KB...but seriously, a time out? Who's fucking call was that? Phils?

Gasol called timeout on the court.

Juan
02-19-2010, 01:26 AM
Yeah it was phill's call. I mean, it would have been fine if the time out was given rigth when Gasol asked for it. Lakers could have had a good 5 seconds on the clock.

I'm pretty mad at Fisher. Instead of going for the game winner he tried to draw a foul with 2 seconds left. WTF FISHER?????????????

Gasol called timeout on the court.

Gasol took the timeout because Phil was calling for a timeout

Bigger question should be, why did Fisher have the ball? Gasol, Odom, Artest, Bynum would all be better options.

Thats why i said on the court, I didnt know if it came from the sidline or not, i just saw Gasol calling time.

Not only that, but to try and draw a foul with 2 seconds left instead of going for the win is ridiculous.

What do you mean? Being dunked ON means a guy is in front of you, thus, you dunk ON him. Get it? If he's behind you, youre not dunking ON the guy, youre just dunking. Allen dunked and got fouled, but by no means was that him dunking on Brown. So since he was jumping at him from behind it makes a difference? His hand was on the backboard and Ray went through his arm and dunked it. They could make a poster out of that, pretty sure that's what makes something qualified as posterized or not.

I don't even know why I am continually posting about this, doesn't even matter.

Celtics squeak out with the win. Outside of Ray their shooting was pretty awful, especially Rondo - I'll take it. Hopefully they can get Nate in for the next game, would have liked to see if he could have sparked some offense during that big run by the Lakers in the 4th. Celtics only scored 11 points in the 4th...ridiculous

Yeah not liking how last few weeks Celtics have a really bad 3rd or 4th quarter but today they actually played tough defense in the 4th since Lakers only scored 17 points vs C's 11 points.

ESPN or TNT had the stat of after the Lakers mini-run in early 4th quarter, they didn't make another FG for last 6-7 minutes of the game.

Is it me, or has Fisher basically become worthless. I mean, dude doesnt even TRY to defend anymore, he tries to draw fouls. There was a play early on where Ray Allen took a shot, and Fish literally just tucked his arms in...didnt even have a hand up.

Hopefully nasty Nate can cure some of their offensive foes. Marquis Daniels wasn't even a threat at all off the pine, dude didn't even attempt a shot - nevermind make one.

Lakers are going to be nearly impossible to beat if all the bigs play well. Their size up front with Odom, Bynum and Gasol is ridiculous.

Knicks are getting Amar'e and somebody else. They better hope it's Wade. Might end up like Joe Johnson though.

FUCK DEREK FISHER.

The only thing that makes me mad about this loss is that last possession by Fish. It was clear as day that he was going for contact instead of the win. Terrible.

That's the only thing? His defense on Ray the whole game wasn't pathetic? His 1-9 shooting wasn't pathetic? Phil needs to get over his fucking mancrush for the dude, and hand over the reins to Shannon Brown, or even Jordan Farmar. Seriously now, this was embarassing to watch tonight. Fuck Derek Fisher. Thanks for the memories and what not, but dude's gotta go.

I would have been less upset about this loss had it been a clean look at the basket but a miss.

You gotta throw that ball into the post anyway. Give it to Lamar, or Pau. Also, Phil and Pau were calling timeout right away, ref gave it to us with like 2.2 seconds left. Retarded. Shoulda had more time at the end. But it doesn't matter, Fisher woulda fucked it up anyways. His defense cost us the game.

Juan
02-19-2010, 03:58 AM
I think the fact that the Lakers only scored like 2 points in the last 5/6 mins or so is what really cost them this game.

Juan
02-19-2010, 04:01 AM
With 5 minutes to play lakers were up by 3.

They came up empty on the next 5 offensive possessions. That's just not going to cut it.

SammyG
02-19-2010, 04:09 AM
If Fisher didn't let Ray score at will, we would have had the game in hand. Fuck you derek fisher.
