To be fair Sheamus has really stepped his game up on Raw. Granted he's only basically had squashes, but he had a match with Shelton Benjamin on ECW right after being moved to Raw, and it was probably his best match in the WWE so far, so I'm willing to go with this.

Its more because it sounds like a throw away feud that probably doesn't last more than a month so they can go back to an Orton/Cena or maybe Kofi/Cena by time of the Rumble.
Sheamus winning did make the battle royale end in a fresh way since it wasn't a predictable winner like an Orton or Kofi.

Yeah but the 2 aren't comparable. Miz and Sheamus have been booked completely differently, just like they should be. Sheamus is made to look like a monster, Miz looked like a pussy. If Sheamus doesn't go full time headliner off the back of this (which I'm 95% sure that he won't) he'll go back to killing bitches in the midcard.

Spot on.
I thought his sudden move to RAW was a bit of a stretch. Now this? Since coming to RAW he has had a couple unimpressive squashes that involved nothing more than punch/kick combos (minus the powerbomb ending of course).
Can he really pull off a main event match on PPV?
I'm excited they are trying new things, which is nice. I'll give this a thumbs up for now...but the build better be hot or it will fail.

Absoloutely a lot of it falls flat, because most of the time it's childish, 'I don't give up' followed by some kiddy insults. But not when he cuts promos like he did tonight. Which people still pick fault with.

I don't think anyone, smark or casual, really believes that Sheamus has a shot at winning the title. It's more about giving Sheamus the rub and seeing what he can do on the big stage. You gotta break a few eggs to make an omelet.

I agree with you, but giving him the rub at this stage seems too early to me. The fact that it is a tables match doesn't really help, either.
My feeling is, if a guy needs to "prove he can hang" it needs to be one on one.
Is the newest IWC fad to hate on Sheamus?
Nah, because even if Kofi had won, there'd be people saying that Kofi has only been pushed for the past 4 weeks or so and isn't ready to main event.

Is the newest IWC fad to hate on Sheamus?
I'm not hating. I"m excited for new things. I just don't think Sheamus has done enough to warrant this rub. If he would have came to RAW and dominated IN GOOD MATCHES that caught peoples attention...sure...but to simply do 2-3 random squashes while showing limited offensive skill scares me. Who would pay 40 bux to watch a squash guy? 1 match doesn't make a man...time does. Umaga is a great case and point here. He started off as a squash guy who went on to give Cena one of the coolest matches he has ever had...but that was after he developed quite a lot.

That will help, but does performing in a tables match really show all that much? Worse guys have main-evented (nay, become champions) due to gimmick matches.
Way too early. WAAAAY too early for Sheamus. Sorry, but there are at least four other guys who SHOULD have gone into that spot that I can name off the top of my head. Swagger, Miz, MVP, Morrison. I only exclude Kofi because he's been feuding with Orton.
And why Swagger wasn't in the match to begin with is beyond me. Morrison and Miz I can kind of see since they're current champions.
Pushing Sheamus is fine. Pushing him this far this fast could blow up in their faces.

I have no question about whether he can work a good match. If you knew about Seamus, you would know he is a great worker and has been for years. It is just that he has no personality to sell the match or build interest. He has no past spoken of, no rounded signifiers of his character, he has just come out, fairly generic irish gimmick, few squash matches, few unoriginal angry powerhouse promos and as a result nobody cares about him, and as a result, the match.
And like somebody already said, if he fails, he has been built as unbeatable so he is worthless should he lose. There is only a 3 week build to this PPV. It spells doom for Seamus for at least until after Wrestlemania in my eyes.
Nah, because even if Kofi had won, there'd be people saying that Kofi has only been pushed for the past 4 weeks or so and isn't ready to main event.
Yup. And if Orton had won, there'd be a huge froth-fest. However, if Ted DiBiase had turned face and won the rumble, people would be claiming this to be the greatest episode of RAW of all time, despite it making zero sense whatsoever. Just good old internet logic.

How? He's been on TV for a few months. He's hardly gonna gain X-Pac heat off the back of one PPV title match. Worst case scenario is people don't give a fuck, Sheamus lays down for Cena and he goes back to being built. Absolute disaster huh.

THAT'S what I see happening.
Fabien Barthez
11-24-2009, 12:28 AM
Nah, they are building him as a threat. Not many people have gone from this kind of fast push and lost and made it back to the main event. If he was a new guy trying his hand in the deeper waters, he could handshake after the match, and continue his journey.
He should have had a Goldberg-esque build.

Sheamus is going to fuck Cena up.
Besides the contract signing with Cena/Sheamus at the end, what about the fucking promo that The Body cut on Vince backstage?! Did anyone else hear the "Cena Sucks" chants tonight?
It was a different feeling with RAW tonight, what a great show. New stars being made. I think we will look back on this RAW five years from now and say that this particular show was the turning point for several wrestlers. Particularly Sheamus.
I think Sheamus has an excellent chance at winning at TLC, then dropping the belt at Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber in February.
Since Triple H even says that he works out with Sheamus on the road, thats a huge advantage for Sheamus O'Shaughnessey.

After watching the Divas segment, I really wish that Maryse was in porno and not wrestling. I think her talents are being under-utilized.

In WWE, Melina... gawd. Those splits and that big wide mouth.
What about Awesome Kong? I think she could find her niche in the BBW ebony porn. Picture her saying in that soft ghetto voice "Yeah thats it baby, yeah give it to momma I can't take no mo' uh dat shit."
Gosh its hot in here.

After Orton won his match I just knew it would be him or Kofi. I'm really glad they had Sheamus win it. This gives Kofi and Orton a chance to build a good damn fued and it gives a breath of fresh air the WWE Title scene.
And I hope Sheamus wins it just to fuck with people and deliver something new.

But we'll probably get an "FU" through the table...
or better yet, a "Super FU" through the table.
Sheamus clobbered the hell out of Kofi when he eliminated him in the battle royal tonight.
Also funny to hear Jesse Ventura crack on Sheamus' skin saying that his skin never saw the sun before, hilarious shit.
Jesse "The Body" Ventura has been the greatest RAW guest host yet, by a mile.

Good Raw. I think there is a good chance Jerishow/DX will main event the next PPV, instead of either title match. Especially since it's TLC.

Ha! Were they even on the show? Or was it all pre-taped segments?
That Santino bit was one of the best. All he really wants is for women to be in their place and cook him Thanksgiving Dinner. What's wrong with that?

I'm hoping for a Sheamus win at TLC next month, but not holding my breath, especially since they went to all the trouble of having a contract signing literally immediately after Sheamus had won the Battle Royal, and then to have Sheamus sneak attack Cena and put him through a table right before Ventura conveniently notifies Cena, Sheamus and everyone else in the building that the match is a tables match?
Not bitching, mind you, just saying it's one of those stupid things that with what happened tonight will be hyped as "ZOMG! CENA NEEDS TO OVERCOME THE ODDS!!!11!!!! FOR THE 98 BILLIONTH TIME, BUT WILL HE?" No matter who he faces, it's always just the same ol' shit with Cena retaining every 3 weeks or so, as Ventura said, and Kudos to the former Minnesota governor for manning up and finally being the one to tell Cena off to his face, even if it was to set up Sheamus' sneak attack.

I forgot it was a 3 hour RAW and tuned in to see CM Punk getting the 5 moves of death by Cena. I wish I would have seen that match in it's completion! I really dug the top rope FU.

Cena's hat and shirt made him look like a giant can of NOS energy drink.

So... not as many people here are as pissed as I am that CM Punk doesn't really have anywhere to go?
He lost to Cena, cleanly... who then got beat down by Sheamus. Then Kane and Batista have a grasp on the #1 contender spot for Smackdown.
The whole ordeal just makes Punk look like he's wandering through a sea of shit. That is unless they really want to start a program with him and R-Truth (fuck).
Punk was allowed to counter out of a couple different FU attempts before Cena finally resorted to the second-rope FU. He was even allowed to grab the ropes on the STFU. He was allowed to taunt Cena and dominate him at points during the match. It was far from a burial.
As for him not being in the World title picture right now, it should probably be expected. He's coming off two high-profile feuds for the title with Jeff Hardy and the Undertaker. Between the Edge injury and Batista's turn on Rey, he was being booked as the top heel on SmackDown, and probably the second biggest heel in the company behind Randy Orton.
I don't have a problem with the company using Punk in an attempt to get someone else over. I do have problems with who they've chosen for the rub, but it's not like Punk's never going to sniff a World title again. He'll be one of the last few eliminated in the Royal Rumble and the Elimination Chamber, if not holding a title by the time WrestleMania rolls around (I'd rather see an Edge/Jericho feud for the title by then, but that's a different thread).

Having watched that, I wish WWE would pay whatever it takes to get Ventura back full-time as a colour announcer.
Unlike most older guys who came back (case in point, Roddy Piper last week) 'The Body' wasn't rambling and incoherant, didn't struggle to recapture his old magical verbal form, didn't come across as a shell of his former self... the guy is still as sharp and entertaining as ever.
He was clearly a little lost with regards to the current product and the wrestlers, but that was to be expected. If he did that well with basic pointers, he'd be as good as ever if he was there every week getting familiar with the storylines and characters.
Vince, on the other hand, has lost it. There were flashes of his former self but he seemed unprepared, confused and disinterested.

I don't remember Jesse ever saying "shut up Monsoon"; he always respected Monsoon on the mic, it was Vince he used to ride.

I stand corrected. I should have said...Man, his time with Monsoon was tons better than with Vince. Vinny sucked bad last night and embarrassed himself at times.

Billy Joel recorded that song 10 years before Garth.

Going to see if I can catch this somewhere. Always loved Ventura, especially on commentary.
