i do not hate cena. i am completely indifferent to him. much like i was for face rock, i reconize that i am not his target demographic and accept the fact that he is not there to entertain ME. Thats the big issue with the Cena era vs say the Hogan era. Hogan era had strong mid card with with workers who could go to entertain people who wanted that. and the main was for the money, the kids. now though the mid card is too weak to hold the interest of the workrate inclined making Cena huge issue when he shjoyldnt be.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for John Cena. He busts his ass, pulls in the money where neccessary, and he's (despite what some say), not a bad wrestler at all. When the time calls for it, he can pull off something interesting. It's just mirred by his character. Cena may be a tremendously nice guy in real life, but the two-dimensional, cliche-wielding, love-machine is just not something with another depth for me to connect to as a mature adult. Woody from Toy Story has more depth, and that's not a diss on Toy Story by any means. But I'd rather my kids watch that than the WWE.

That being said, when Cena does turn heel, my critical opinion of him will probably change, because suddenly he will have depth -- and a lot of that will flow from the character he is playing now. Cena really is the Hogan of this generation, in that he's the bland babyface now, but when he does turn heel, it could potentially take the current kiddies into a more adult phase of wrestling.

Let me answer more seriously and in depth.

If it was me in his position, I'm pretty sure I would be bored of playing the same bland direction-less one dimensional character. But as Destor said, we aren't the target demo.

Back in the day, I used to be so sucked in by what Hogan did and said. But when you look back at it now, it's so cheesy, and one dimensional as Cena. The old lather, rinse, repeat promo of "*insert heel name here*, you can't disrespect my fans or this company like that, I'll teach you on behalf of the Hulkamaniacs/ Cenation/ WWE Universe!". It works for the kids, and the kids cheer him. So in that light, his job is pretty rewarding.



And as I previously mentioned, even if he is sick of his character, I'm sure the amount of money gets is worth it.

Realistically, I don't think anyone has the expectation that Cena is aimed to an adult audience. The thing is, in terms of target demos, they're still trying to score that coveted 18-34 market, while trying to market John Cena to kids. In fact, while taming the overall product.

Let me put this in more personal terms. I think a lot of people are pissed off because WWE has a new girlfriend, but is flirting with "us" on the side, for whatever reason. Maybe WWE's afraid her new boyfriend will fall through--He does have a short attention span--or possibly she just likes to have her cake and eat it too. Maybe she still wants to fuck us on the side--but she's totally thinking of him.

That's especially creepy when you consider "she" is courting little kids, but it's WWE. Taste has never been "her" strong point.
