I pretty much agree with Tedious, insomuch as if it really weren't cool to be the ass end of jokes for 20 years, I'm sure JR would have had something to say about it long before now. Hell, something as serious as Lawler dropping dead from a heart attack is now open season on the announce table. I would assume if Jerry were raw about the subject matter, that would never happen on air as comfortably as it has in random banter, or nearly as often. Paul Bearer's ACTUAL DEATH was used to add drama to an Undertaker angle. Everytime they went to Oklahoma, they make it a point to a) bring out Ross for the hometown pop, and b) use his noteriety to try to get someone some heat for beating up on the homer. If he truly wasn't down for that, I'm sure we wouldn't have had nearly as many "JR appreciation nights" as we have seen in the last 10-15 years.
The only time I ever remember anyone making fun of JR was truly considered in completely poor taste by and large is when Ed Ferrara did it in WCW. In that case, its like the difference between you playfully calling your gay brother a "fucking homo", as opposed to some random stranger in the street doing the same thing. It doesn't equate. |
