I think Dessens is a smart pick up if you can afford to give up 2 prospects. I don't know the state of the Dodgers farm system, they've always been know as a really good breeding ground for pitching.

Kenji Jojima is a very good baseball player. Man. For his 1st year in MLB baseball, he doesn't look out of place at all. He's playing what's the toughest, most demanding position in the game and not missing a beat.

but I really don't think wins have that much to do with a pitcher. I don't completely write them off like some people, but in the argument you two are having wins really have nothing to do with anything, so you are wrong.

Gertner changes his view on stats to fit his argument. When he thought Chacin had a lower ERA than Blanton (which he didn't), the first thing he said in Chacin's favor was "Better ERA than Blanton". Since Blanton's ERA has been at least a full run lower, his argument became "Who cares what his ERA is as long as he wins?"

Although I'm sure there's a lot of pitchers who would really struggle to "win" when your team gives you 7.7 RPG like the Blue Jays do for Chacin (best in MLB). I know, I know, Chacin has just done such a great job of holding those slim leads Toronto gives him. He knows how to win.

I didn't realize how much interleague hurt the Yankees in the standings. They went 10-8 while the other top teams in the AL were dominating.

I think interleague has really outlasted its shelf life anyway, it was needed to bring fans back after the strike and all but i dunno, its just full of a load of pointless games and the odd crosstown matchup that ESPN etc try and paint as a rivalry, ie in Chicago and New York

Speaking of DFA. The Yankees DFA Kelly Stinnett and acquired Sal Fasano. I dunno, really doesn't help at all, both are mediocre behind the plate and suck at hitting.

Chacin's struggled late last year because he tired out. He needs to get better stamina not just for a full season, but for the 6th,7th,+ innings of individual games. He tends to blow up. This year, even though he pitched 10 games or so, he was always hurting. I don't see him as a superstar, but I don't see him as being done either.
