I think the notion that there is actually depth to Jay-Z or most artists beyond their singles is primarily ridiculous and largely false.

Music is subjective as a whole, what one person may find to be their best work, someone else may think it is utter shit.

I agree with the first portion. Those rappers are not even close to what the best of the genre has to offer, so I could see your dislike for rap from that.
