Agreed. Some bearhugs start out looking nasty but then the guy gets tired and then they degenerate into a legit hug before the ref can do the arm check.

I think a lot of the problem is as time's progressed people have obviously wised up to the game so now guys don't work as stiff as they used to leaving a lot of the holds that require some rough housing to look good being nothing but unimpressive and laughable. Bear hug being a main offender but it's not alone. The abdomnale strecth was one of the most feared holds in wrestling when Inoki used and to look at it today and it's a move you can hit in the shine and no one will complain. Ludicris. Figure Four. Used to a finish used by houndreds. Now? Everyone uses it no one wins with it. The list goes on.
