I'd just be happy with more action packed movies.

As I said earlier, they're defo signed on for 2 more. Writing the script for ST12 started in March 2009 and it's around summer 2011 when it'll come out. If all goes to plan etc. etc. J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk will produce, but Abrams hasn't signed on to direct it. Yet anyway.

If it's as good as everyone (can't believe I'm writing that word here) is saying, then lets hope! I won't see the film till Weds next week at earliest so can't comment yet.

Just got back from the movie, and enjoyed the hell out of it. Though I couldn't help but notice something eerily familiar about the plot structure...

A ruthless villain with an unstoppable planet-destroying superweapon? A troubled farm-boy who never knew his heroic father? A mysterious old hermit letting said farm-boy in on a secret that will be his call to greatness?

So that's how they made Star Trek a blockbuster again--they pulled the plot from the first Star Wars!

Seriously, though, it's a damn fun movie. Great cast, phenomenal effects, and writing that doesn't suck, so thumbs up.

These are just the plot points of "The Hero's Journey." You also forgot the "Belly of the Beast" moment, which was his adventure with Chickenasaurus Rex on that ice planet.

You can find the same plot points in many, many movies, including Lord of the Rings and Batman.

As am amateur filmmaker myself, I wanted to see if anyone else noticed JJ Abrams' use of lens flares throughout the film (when the camera turns and you can see the light spectral circles of the lenses). There were more lens flares in this film than perhaps I have ever seen in a 2 hour film, and they almost became a part of the storytelling in the way they were used.

Amazing movie. Gearing up to go see it again here in a few minutes.
