It's really not inconceivable that the football team just simply wasn't making money. There are lots of expenses: Coaches/staff, facilities, travel, maintenance, equipment, recruiting.

From my experience, Hofstra never had good attendance. The stadium was pretty small and rarely full. And I don't know of any lucrative TV deals from D-1AA.

I'm sure a college program like that is largely funded by alumni donations, and just about every industry that relies on charity has struggled lately.

I live on Long Island and your right Hofstra never really drew a crowd and there is no TV deal. New York itself is a professional sports area. There just isnt much interest in college and high school teams like there are in other states. Also the Jets trained there up until last year and im sure paid a nice sum of money to use the field for training camp, losing them had to be a huge hit and with the economy now it may have been the final nail.

I went to Hofstra and football was never really a big deal.

Wonder what use the stadium will have...eh
