Actually the PG format began in 2008.

Linda "officially" launched her campaign in 2009, which means she probably had been planning and fund raising for her campaign since at least 2007-08.

And for the record, as of 2010, 60% of the WWE's audience are men 17+, while only 40% of the WWE's audience consists of women and young children. The whole younger target demographic just doesn't hold water.

I'm not saying that Linda's campaign was the ONLY reason for the PG switch, but it likely was a major factor and influence, considering she was CEO for almost the whole first year of the PG era and the previous 11 years prior to resigning to run for senate.

Think critically and connect the dots folks.
I'm thinking critically and connecting the dots and noticing that most of the people wearing the merch is that 40%. WWE doesn't make its money on ticket sales. They make their money on merch. The kids buy the merch, and mom buys the merch for the kids. As a company whose purpose is making money, they're going to market to the segment that's giving them the money. Hence, PG. The senate campaign definitely contributed, but I would say - at best - it is maybe 1/4 of the reason WWE is PG.
