What i dont get is how Goldberg doesn't do that?? As I said he has all of striking knowledge and does add fighter history.. I have never heard him unprepared for a fight.. He knows the fighters and their trainers, including changes in training during camps..
JR has sold storylines not fights so anyone who would put him over a guy who took the job from the first mma play by play guy, who was bland and boring (Jeff blatnick), is nothing more than a wwe fanboy.. |

While I more than likely would not want Ross calling MMA fights... my problem with Krispy's argument is that he talks about how Goldberg has learned all this stuff and knows so much. What would keep Ross from learning all this stuff? What could keep Ross from learning about the training camps? About the trainers? Fighter histories? All that?
Ross could be more than capable of doing it and doing a good job. He could learn everything that Goldberg has learned over the years in order to do a sufficient job. He won't be a Goldberg but he isn't there to be a Goldberg. He's there to be a Jim Ross. I think you're just coming down far too hard on Ross for really no reason other than he used to call storylines in WWE. Like because of that he wouldn't be capable of calling anything else any other way and that is absurd. |

What I am saying is that he's not there for his expertise. JR could do all of that, pretty much any announcer could transfer between sports if they were willing to put in the work. Plenty of commentators do multiple sports too, I'm sure MMA is not the only sport Mike Goldberg has ever worked on given that sports broadcasters tend to do many different things. It's his job to know about fighters records, camps, backgrounds. If it was someone else's job, they would do it too. He is part of UFC because he has the voice and the catchphrases. If he were replaced, I wouldn't miss any of his insight because he offers none. |
