I think they need to admit that wrestling is fake. I don't mean come out and have Jeff Jarrett cut a promo talking about how what they do is predetermined or anything, but they should at least stop trying to convince people otherwise.
The backstage promos, for example. They're all shot from seemingly hidden cameras that the wrestlers NEVER notice, and it comes off as ridiculously tacky. Yes, I know an argument can be made that a lot of people wouldn't say what they were saying if they knew they were being filmed, and I see what they're TRYING to accomplish...but they're failing. Wrestling is very formulaic, and it's tried and tested. TNA, however, has this incessant urge to constantly try and "reinvent the wheel", so to speak (six-sided ring, entire PPVs of gimmick matches, RIDICULOUS gimmick matches, etc.). This line of thinking has plagued them for a long time. They need to realize that you CAN stick to the tried and tested wrestling formula and still be entertaining without thinking TOO far outside of the box. I figure the reason that they do it is just to provide an alternative to WWE, which is fine in theory...but maybe instead of worrying about WWE at all, they should just find their own niche and do whatever it is that THEY do best. I know that they want to compete with the big dogs, but it's just not time yet. Sorry, that turned out much longer than I expected. |
