Tell that to Ziggler. At least Christian had the belt for 2/5 days. He had the title for half a show.

I suppose everyone was too busy beating the dead whore that is "Christian lost, suck it fanboy!!!" trolling to point out that fact.

Also, although it was blown up for "comedic" effect, that reaction by Christian after losing, along with that build of "not being sure I'm the guy" seems to mean some sort of depth for character... possibly even to get people more behind him for his next win instead of "win it for Edge" sympathy reign.

I am a huge, albeit un-numbered, peep, but I'm not gonna get all fetal and butthurt because his first reign wasn't longer than a piss break. Lets just see where all this goes instead of touting him as the new Rock or condemning him as a perma-curtain jerker merely over what has happened in the last two weeks.

Just want to make a point to mention that the match with Orton was a great match. Sure it sucks that Christian's first title reign was a short one, but it wasn't like it was an uncompetitive match. I think this match did a fantastic job at establishing Christian as a perennial contender. Also want to say that Orton did a fantastic job putting Christian over in this match, even with Christian losing, Orton had that look of "what is it going to take to end this" going on.

Yeah, I'm sure Ziggler's really depressed that the WWE made him an official World Heavyweight Champion during the lead-in to what they were trying to hype as one of their biggest WrestleManias ever when they really could have had the entire thing reversed by Teddy Long and stripped from the record.

The WWE didn't have to put the World Title on Ziggler. If a guy needs a sign of faith that you will one day get a shot in the company, I don't see how you can get any better than being given a courtesy World Heavyweight Title reign.

I don't understand this "Face of SmackDown" concept. Or booking the entire show around one guy.

Surely it'd be better to concentrate on everyone on the show top to bottom? To make the whole show enjoyable from top to bottom? To push a number of talents in attempt to get the roster of stars over.

By positioning Orton as the "Cena of SmackDown" do they not risk ramming him down our throats and getting the same reaction that Cena gets?

Also, when did being considered a "reliable hand" become a bad thing? I know from Jericho's book that this is part of the reason why he left in 2005. How is it a bad thing to be a guy that they can trust to go out there and perform for the crowd, put on a good match and drop a decent promo on a weekily basis?

In any other business surely "Mr Reliable" would be your go-to guy in a sticky situation? Why risk pushing/promoting someone new when you have somebody you know can do a good job for you?

It seems to be a combination of being complacent and moving merch. Think about Austin in WCW... he was used, for example, to get Alex Wright over because Alex "had the look". Guys like Matt Hardy, Chavo, Finlay, Goldie, etc., tend to get lost in the shuffle of the scramble to push someone who's face can sell shirts... fuck. I had a point here, but I got distracted by work related things and forgot where I was going with this. Sorry.

Smackdown's lowest rating of the year was after the news that Christian dropped the title to Randy Orton on the show. The low rating was NOT due to Christian being the World Heavyweight Champion. The low ratings were due to advance knowledge of a shitty championship switch happening.

I guess the audience was trying to tell the WWE of what they thought about it.

I'm not saying he's new. Quite the opposite. I'm saying, when they are in a tough spot (i.e. a lack of Main Event talent on SmackDown), why risk the top spot on a new guy that might or might not flourish when you have veterans that are tried, tested and reliable who they can push?

I guess the area of contention is whether a guy like Christian who has been around "forever" can get over at all though. I firmly believe that almost anyone with enough inring talent/mic skill can be a top guy with the right push. Honestly, aside from youth, what seperates a Wade Barrett from a Christian? In my opinion, one massive push.

Christian was never the face of SmackDown!, and never will be. The Undertaker and Randy Orton are going to be the guys promoted heavily. Christian could eventually get there if he is consistently pushed.
