That would have been the absolute worst idea.

"Hey guys, been out for a year after HHH tried to basically kill me. After a year of waiting for a return, let's blow it at Elimination Chamber where I can look close to winning the title and then job. Great plan!"

EDIT: Obviously "absolute worst" is hyperbole. They could always have put Clox in it.
