Austin never 'evolved' tho.
Taker went from the slow boring ass Khali style to a pretty high tempo diverse guy who could have great matches with anyone. Can you srsly give me that many brilliant Austin matches, because I am struggling. Anyway shush guys Taker is better ok. |

Undertaker evolved because his shit DID get old and he had to change it up to remain relevant/interesting. Taker went from the slow boring ass Khali style to a pretty high tempo diverse guy who could have great matches with anyone. This comment here isn't true. His matches with Batista sucked ass. I can't begin to count the shitty matches/feuds Taker has had. He's had great matches in the last 4 years....4.....with 2 opponents. I'll admit he's improved in that his character change allowed him to expand his move-set, but even as "Booger Red" can you say he carried Nathan Jones, Albert, Big Show to passable matches? Khali? |

Also, I don't want anyone to misconstrue my criticism as hate. I commend the Undertaker for remaining relevant and evolving his character. I am an Undertaker fan and honestly look forward to Wrestlemania to seeing him perform. I also believe his longevity is amazingly impressive, however, to say that Undertaker is better than Austin in terms of mic skills, wrestling, angles/feuds, relevance to the industry, etc is simply not true.

Undertaker by a very, very, very infinitesimally small margin here. Taker's 20-0 WM streak seals it for me though.

I've stated how i judge things before but for the sake of the thread i'll give my 2¢:
for me the subject of better always has to start with who made the most money. Once you get onto the topic of guys who have drawn similar money over their career then things like workrate mic work etc etc etc come back into play. With Taker vs Austin its not even close. Austin drew insane numbers... for about 2 years. Then he just got stale for the masses and people stopped paying for him like they had been. Taker however is a massive part of whyWRESTLE MANIA draws like it does. A large portion of its success is because of him EVERY YEAR. I would go as far to say that bulk of all revenue Mania has ever pulled in is thanks to practicaly only two people. The Undertaker and Hulk Hogan. Taker is with out question the greatest special attractions of all time. Steve Austins GREAT 2 year run cant even come close to touching the money drawn by Taker, or many others. So work rate and such for me doesnt even come into play. Taker is better by making poeple spend more money on him. Now if you want to go into stuff like work rate i would say Taker and Austin are on par when they're both at the top of their games. (Takers obviously improved with time while austin degraded.) Taker Prolly has a few more historic matches at this point but only by 3 or so. They both spin great promos and have two of the strongest gimmicks of all time. Neither guy ever really made any stars so i think that tally would be a wash. Taker made Kane....bewteeen the two of them thats really the one guy i can think that was established thanks to either man giving the rub. so if you took money out of it...i might have tp say its a draw. Both are great, but Taker edges this out for me by a whole lot because money matters, if austin hadnt been a flash in the pan this MIGHT be a different story. MIGHT. Because Takers run in the buisness is truely elite. There are only a small number of people who have had success like he has had and steve austin is far and away not one of them. |

After Hulk Hogan, no other wrestler carried the world of professional wrestling on his shoulder, except Stone Cold.
Undertaker never carried the industry of professional wrestling as a whole. You can even say that were it not for Stone Cold, WWF may never have beaten WCW in the ratings war. Hell, who knows if WWE would even exist today. |

Many people who are in the wrestling business say Steve Austin's run was larger than Hulkamania, even Vince McMahon.
It was a critical time in wrestling. And I'm sure it's more than 2 years. |

No its really not. 97 to 99. Then the floor fell out. And unlike hogan it wasnt just Austin. Vince gets every bit of the credit Austin gets as a preformer. DX gets some too. The Rock as well. And Taker.

It wasn't just Hogan either.
It was Roddy Piper, it was Randy Savage, it was Ultimate Warrior, etc. |

Warrior was at the end of Hogans run as top draw he really doesnt count. Hogan was at his peak from 83-90. I gladly give Piper all the credit in the world and Dibiase as well. But Hogan drew with every fat slob they put him in the ring with where Austin and the Attitude era was about the whole "cast" if you will. Back then it was about one guy. and that was Hogan.

But the main thing I disagree with is the attitude era comment. c'mon even if you read back on it you'd disagree. It was all Austin. What you're doing there is not only blaming austin for having a better supporting cast, but also blaming Austin for being more beat up then Hogan is. |

The majority of truimphs in ratings for the fed over WCW were in segments that had DX and mic foley. And i still contend austin was only a mega star in the buisness when fueding with Vince. and out side of that he was "just" the most over guy in the buisness...not a pop culture icon ala hogan. |

You shouldn't. Taker had a pretty boring typical "big man" style for the majority of his career. Now he wrestles one ridiculously hyped 30+ minute match a year against Shawn Michaels or Triple H and people think he's the be all end all of in ring competitors.
Granted, he's had some great matches with Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar but Austin was consistently great from his WCW run on. Even after completely changing his style. Austin was actually able to carry matches. Taker was never able to do that. |

Never really thought of Austin as carrying a match before.
Have thought of Taker that way. Thus, I disagree. |

Went with Undertaker.
The man changed personas and flipped from heel to face to heel to face and still garnered respect from the wrestling fan base. Made countless of wrestlers bigger, and is still a top draw to this day. Austin yes I love, but after the first heel turn it turned into whiny bitchy heel #32409 who cheated his ass off (yes I know, heel tactics 101 whatever) and after he turned heel, with the exception of Kurt Angle, no one really stood as a "challenge" to him. His neck is honestly is what kept him from his true potential. After the 97 accident he was pretty much limited to what he could do, while Taker with his age to this day can still pull off the 1 or 2 big spots that no fan would see coming. |
