How big of a draw is Kurt Angle for TNA?

So it looks like Kurt Angle has more or less taken over the feud against Aces & Eights for Sting. So how big of a draw is Kurt Angle for TNA and what do you think they should be doing with him? Off the bat, he has name recognition by wrestling fans and is a former multi time world champion. He still is in beyond amazing shape and is one of the few guys that can work just as well as a heel or a face in the ring. Personally, I think he's one of the biggest stars they have and I'd like to see Angle get another run in TNA as the World Heavyweight Champion.

Although TNA wanted Angle to be their "guy" that draws the viewers over, and maybe for a bit it did. But overall, I don't see him as the big draw to TNA right now.

He'd be a bigger draw returning to WWE, or staying for that matter, than bringing over viewership to TNA....

He's a big enough draw that it makes me sad that I don't watch TNA because I am missing out on Kurt Angle.

He is not a big enough draw for me to start watching TNA, though. (Unlike Christian was )

TNA's allure is that it is pro wrestling.

No one tunes in for a specific wrestler or angle.

Their entire fanbase is hardcore wrestling fans that cant get enough even with WWEs crazy amount of original content, and watches to supplement it.

They could fire every "star" tomorrow and their ratings would stay the same.

Exactly. Here are the names that have gone through TNA and basically done nothing to increase ratings/buyrates/etc.

Sting
Hulk Hogan
Kurt Angle
Kevin Nash
Scott Hall
Jeff Hardy
Christian
Lex Luger
CM Punk
Brian Christopher
Buff Bagwell
Jerry Lynn
Psicosis
Low Ki/Kaval
Gail Kim
Kharma/Awesome Kong
Insane Clown Posse
Jeff Jarrett
Vince Russo
Booker T
Road Warriors
New Age Outlaws
X-Pac
Ric Flair
AJ Styles
Rhyno
Diamond Dallas Page
Ken Shamrock
Scott Steiner
Rick Steiner
The Nasty Boys
Curt Hennig
Terry Funk
Vampiro
Sabu
Sandman
Dusty Rhodes
Dustin Rhodes

TNA has had damn near every moderately well known star in wrestling over the past 30 years that has left WWE in their company and it's meant jack shit.

This is semi-accurate actually. I watch TNA every week because I love wrestling and watch just about everything wrestling related on my tv. I haven't missed an episode of RAW, Smackdown!, or Impact in damn near 3 years. Honestly I think TNA is like you said, a supplement for "hardcore wrestling fans" to watch since WWE doesn't do anything on Thursdays.

Although I do think that Hardy probably draws a little bit for them. Not on a level that actually matters, but I'm sure that if he left their ratings would go down a tiny bit.

I agree in the sense that he should be champ again, but now isn't the time. He is at the point where he needs to be the one in there with the "new-ish" guys to give them some rep by putting them over. Thing is, with angle, he can put over anyone and BOTH he and his opponent will look damn good doing it.

Angle = good draw, regardless where he wrestles.

So I was thinking about who should headline the Lockdown 2013. Obviously it's gonna be Aces & Eights vs Team Hogan for the Leathal Lockdown match itself, the other big match will be the World Title. Do you think that March is enough time to start building up an Angle vs Hardy match for the world title? What about a semi main between Angle vs RVD for the X Division title (I think they stopped caring about the "weight class" for the X Division)

It could easily be done, but knowing TNA they'll throw him in with team Hogan. The X Division on the other hand is possible, but I think (or at least hope) that they are using RVD to build some credibility to the belt and will have someone "new" take him out as a rub. Would love Angle to go heel again though. His best work has always been as a heel in my eyes.

Pretty sure they all spiked the ratings, not by much and only for a week or two, but the way the promote their new signings has probably killed off any good will they had left, they could switch rosters with Raw and I doubt it'd do much.

TNA pulled a 2.0 for two week and dwindled after that when Hogan came in. Do not remember the numbers for Kurt because it was such a long time ago but he slightly spiked the number for a couple weeks too.

i think the only active wrestlers in existence today with any real draw value are John Cena, CM Punk, i can't really think of any other wrestlers that fans 'pay to see'.

and as Hanso said the draw for TNA is the product itself

Which has been shit for so long, so I assume people aren't willing to give it another chance.

I really like the product as it is right now except for the main feud which is that Aces & 8's tosh. If that's you're main event, I can see why people are turned off.

Even after all his injuries he still puts on an amazing match, I guess the question is do people watch Impact to see Angle wrestle?

I will say this, he is making Garett Bischoff tolerable for me.

Amazing matches don't equal a draw, though. Angle has more than that, as he's a charismatic performer and the like, but the question really is does he draw anyone in who wouldn't already watch the show?

I seriously doubt it. I don't think people tune in specifically to see Angle wrestle, perform, whatever.

Not sure if they still do it, but having things like feast or fired on PPV but holding off on the results till the following Impact would surely put people off ordering the events, doesn't matter who is on the cards.
