Yeah that's exactly what I mean

I think the scariest horror film I have ever seen is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but I rarely watch horror films and I think I saw that when I was about fifteen.
The original Hellraiser was particularly bizarre and I remember struggling to watch that but I really can't think of a horror film that was so terrifying I had to turn it off.

I don't know if it counts as horror but "Eden Lake" was reprehensible, pointless ugly trash passing for social commentary and I remember distinctly watching that and thinking it was an ugly little Michael Haneke rip-off minus the style and obvious satire on social estrangement and alienation.
That film made me extremely angry and I knew the moment I saw it that some people with limited analytical ability would promote it as a modern class-commentary classic and we'd see rip-offs of the rip-off later on down the road.
Next thing you know I'm looking at "Cherry Tree Lane" which is like some National Front shitebag took the "Eden Lake" script and said "this needs to be racial with some black/white rape and the black people should talk like 'dis innit' so that our white audience know we're all about politics".
