It makes sense in so many ways. You can run a legit storyline with Mustafa PD policing Retribution. It might actually save Retribution if the writers can even begin to imagine the possibilities, which we all know they wont.

Too bad they never really got behind Mustafa Ali because he is actually pretty good on the mic as a face and had a good story and seemed like it would be easy to get people to rally behind.....

I do wonder what would have happened if he didn't get injured before that Elimination Chamber where Kofi got his spot instead and became the hottest thing and got into a WM title win

If I remember, Ali would have ended in the same spot as he did post-EC since WWE still went with the plans they had for him at the next PPV and then moved on to their real plans for Mania but with Kofi now in Kevin Owen's place.

Kofi getting a mega push when he did was just a case him both being at the right place at the right time and everything falling into perfect place for him. The same very likely wouldn't have happened for Ali had he not been hurt.
