I'm having alot of doubts the past few days. Not about actually pursuing becoming a wrestler but about the school itself. Everything I've read says it's a great, dependable school. But I can't get the thought out of my head that it's biggest claim to fame after all the years it's existed is Spike Dudley.

I mean, I'd love to go on to be as talented as a Bryan Danielson but my main goal is to actually make it in WWE. But all I keep thinking is why has no APW graduate gone on to make it in WWE with the exception of Spike and Crash Holly. Why should I think that I would break out of the pack and go on to be huge? I've got all the dedication in the world and I don't plan on ever again doing anything but wrestling but I'm sure there have been dedicated guys who has gone here before. What happened to them?

Anyways, I got somewhat famous on TPWW years ago because of my knowledge of wrestling, and therefore hate asking for wrestling related advice and such but what does everyone else think about this situation?

Look buddy,

I think you are going about this in all the wrong way. Forget about the WWE for now, you need to learn how to wrestle and then wrestle on lots of shows and get your name out there. It would 2-5 years minimum. If you really love wrestling, just wrestle for the enjoyment of wrestling. I treat wrestling like some would treat being in a sunday league football team, everyone there knows there not premiership standard, but they still play it every week because they love the game, if they are really good a scout could pick them up and they could go on futher, but it's unlikely.

I'm not trying to put you down here as I have no idea on what your talent capabilities are, but think how many wrestlers there are in the US alone, there are thousands still active right now and currently 1 federation for feeding the WWE, that's rubbish odds of making it.

If you love wrestling, do the training learn the basic, I know there boring as hell and all you want to do is the moves that you know you can do, but crawl before you can walk and when your ready you can go out there and get bookings yourself.

You're right. I'm just starting to freak out a little realizing I'm about to go all in and dedicate myself to this one place and it just doesn't seem to have as great of a track record as I once thought. I have an insane amount of passion for wrestling and I'm gonna enjoy every second of every step along the way but ultimately, I want to eventually become the best. I just don't want to be some guy who forked out some money, got a little training, had some skills and then was forgotten about over time and I can't help but wonder why that seems to be the norm with APW's graduates.

I intend to find a school to train at from round about April 2006 (when I turn 21-Inheritance!). Problem is, finding a local-ish school (I live in Wolverhampton) is a problem and I don't have much info.

When I was about 11 'til a couple of years ago, I was hellbent on going to the states and training there (better opportunities, school track records etc). I e-mailed and wrote to 5-6 schools. Whilst I got no written responses, I did recieve 2 e-mails back (1 from Sully's in Toronto and I can't remember the other. I did save the e-mails but lost them when my account was closed). Now, I pretty much realise that the only way I'm going to get to where I dream to be is by working my ass of here in the UK first.

Basically, I need all the fucking advice I can get and would really appreciate some from people who are/have been/will soon be/would like to be trained/involved in the business on a physical level etc. Thanks for reading

I can't think of any promotions that run out of the Birmingham area, let alone schools, how far are you willing to travel?

Infact scrap what I just said. if I were you i'd look into block booking a week at NWA Hammerlocks school, I know loads of people that trained there and they provide accomodation, I think they work in the North, but i'm not 100% where exactlly.

The FWA doing similar training weekends as well that run via portsmouth.

Because of your location I'd say your better off looking to do a few days in a row rather than one off sessions

the site is futureshockwrestling.com but it's not working right now.

Absolute max i would guess £25 per session, but that would be with a guest trainer

WWF Fan, I'm telling you right now, about 1 in 10,000 people may make it to the WWE out of those schools. Not saying you won't, but it's a very very very big longshot. Some guys, who some consider the greatest workers in the world, still haven't made it. It's a really tough business and you should really have a backup plan just in case you want to do something else 5 years down the line.

Supermark101 does not have that much rep yet (10+)
Making it in wrestling is all about getting noticed. Go here and get noticed Its the most direct way to the WWE. It is still VERY Difficult to make it, and it is so much cheaper. Its only $4500. $500 for the first 13 weeks. I believe it is worth the move. Im planning on going there once I finish college, next year.

My decision to go to APW Boot Camp is really influenced by it's location. I can't afford to move away right now. Obviously, if APW was considered an awful place to go for training, I wouldn't be going. Maybe waiting a while and moving near somewhere with good credentials. However, I'm constantly hearing good things about this place and it's just an hour drive... it seems like a great plan.

On a side note, I bought the first season of Tough Enough a few weeks ago and have been watching it. DAMN, it would be awesome to be trained by Al Snow. He is my favorite person ever.

Is Hayward even a place to get noticed though??? No offense man, I was in Fremont and went to Cal State Hayward...place is like a forgotten boring hole that no one knows about.

Isn't there one in like San Jose??? Well, unless if you live somewhere north or east like Concord...then yeah Hayward is understandable. I'm just saying...would you be able to get noticed there? You gotta think of that too if you're dream is to make it in WWE.

I'm going to be trained because I've heard good things about Rob Thompson and APW's training program. After training, APW will help me with marketing myself. I don't expect to get noticed by WWE straight out of training. That's just not how it works. You have to work your way up.

Well, like Supermark said, if you want WWE to notice you, the best place to go would be their farm league OVW. That's not saying it's the place to go if you want to become a great wrestler, but if you want to go specifically to WWE, then it'd probably be best to go to the source.

(I plan on taking the same sort of route when striking out on my acting career; I'm gunning for the Second City in Chicago, Saturday Night Live's prime talent source)

Yeah. Only problem is I just can't afford to move/get my own place. I'm a pretty big guy so I think I could very well get noticed by WWE if I were to go to OVW but I just can't afford it. So it's either keep waiting until I can or go to APW and get my training. Once that's done, I'll see what happens.

Just found this thread - Are you aware of APW's legal problems? You know a student died whilst training there right?

The trainers bullied some kid who complained about headaches and kept dropping him on his head. He died the same day. Bob Barnett knows more about it than me. Go to his board and ask him.

Jesus that's awful. Thanks.

I have to say I never really knew much about Robert Thompson. (The head trainer)

Yeah, I remember reading something a while back, Brian Something, they got some 7' tool to powerbomb or spinebuster him like crazy and even after he was complaining of severe headaches, they just told him to tough it out. Pretty fucking disgusting.

Don't sign anything with them either. They try and take a cut of your earnings like they "manage" you.

I'm actually thinking of going over to the States sometime next year, to do some Independant shows. A friend of mine, Tex Benedict, works both the U.K and U.S, and as well as the Promoter for the main guys I'm apart of over here, the CSF, both have connections.

Who knows right now, but I'll keep people posted.

Also, good luck with you're training.

Roland Alexander himself called me a couple days ago and left me a message. Said he wanted to do a phone interview or something. Add that to this info I'm getting... a little desperate?

IMO APW is the best school on the west coast, RoH on the East, and TWA was the best in the south-southwest but I lost track of it.

That big fat tub of goo would eat his own gran's legs for money. How can someone in his physical condition teach wrestling? Anyway, he makes his "students" sign a "contract" saying he gets a percentage of future earnings. He tells people he never takes up that option. I know for a fact he did. It wasn't worth the paper it was printed on though so guys simply stopped paying him.
