No but you are obviously ignorant of he situation to throw out petty insults instead of adding to the discussion..
Bottom line is, you have to have a play by play guy for the color commentator to play off of.. Goldberg makes alot of good calls on anticipating what a fighter is setting up by what they are doing, etc.. He is on point on boxing knowledge and willing tells viewers what combos the corners are calling for.. His grappling knowledge has grow leaps and bounds over the past 7 years.. Anyone who argues that has not watched enough UFC to realize that or just plain out isnt knowledgable about the sport to see it.. But I guess you won't argue any of hose points do to the fact you'll prolly spent too much effort coming up with a quip about my intelligence or weight.. |

Jim Ross can call straight when it comes down to it. When they needed him to call wrestling matches and not sell storylines he was good, and he "played" straight.
I think people would be surprised. Joey Styles would suck at MMA, he's more over the top than JR and sounds like a moron. "OH MY GODDDDD" fucking he sounds like such a god damned retard. |

I also love that the reflex, even when you are attempting to discuss this properly, is to suggest that anyone who disagrees with you just doesn't know enough about the sport. Anyone who has watched ANY sport knows how it works. Goldberg is there because he can talk alot, sound enthusiastic and keep the commentary flowing on air. He blatantly does not offer any real insight into the fights, that is Joe Rogan's place, Goldberg is there to ask the sort of questions a novice who has never fought would ask. Any new commentator, it would be their job to know about stats, names of moves, winning runs, fighter histories. They would work on it. The real decision on whether a commentator works or not is how they sound on-screen and if they can fill the air. |

What i dont get is how Goldberg doesn't do that?? As I said he has all of striking knowledge and does add fighter history.. I have never heard him unprepared for a fight.. He knows the fighters and their trainers, including changes in training during camps..
JR has sold storylines not fights so anyone who would put him over a guy who took the job from the first mma play by play guy, who was bland and boring (Jeff blatnick), is nothing more than a wwe fanboy.. |

While I more than likely would not want Ross calling MMA fights... my problem with Krispy's argument is that he talks about how Goldberg has learned all this stuff and knows so much. What would keep Ross from learning all this stuff? What could keep Ross from learning about the training camps? About the trainers? Fighter histories? All that?
Ross could be more than capable of doing it and doing a good job. He could learn everything that Goldberg has learned over the years in order to do a sufficient job. He won't be a Goldberg but he isn't there to be a Goldberg. He's there to be a Jim Ross. I think you're just coming down far too hard on Ross for really no reason other than he used to call storylines in WWE. Like because of that he wouldn't be capable of calling anything else any other way and that is absurd. |

What I am saying is that he's not there for his expertise. JR could do all of that, pretty much any announcer could transfer between sports if they were willing to put in the work. Plenty of commentators do multiple sports too, I'm sure MMA is not the only sport Mike Goldberg has ever worked on given that sports broadcasters tend to do many different things. It's his job to know about fighters records, camps, backgrounds. If it was someone else's job, they would do it too. He is part of UFC because he has the voice and the catchphrases. If he were replaced, I wouldn't miss any of his insight because he offers none. |

JR is a sports commentator who got his big break in Pro Wrestling. For the most part all commentators are sports fans and their job is to call the action. There's no reason to say JR couldn't do that. There are many hockey commentators who hockey wasn't their first love but it's their first big break into the business.
Just because Goldberg started at UFC 12 doesn't mean he's any better than anybody else. He has his own style which is great, and JR has his own as well. It's pretty easy to figure out stats especially with the interwebz so I don't think JR would have any problem. |

I think one slight problem with JR is that he isn't the most attentive to details. In wrestling it's easy to go off on tangents or make one liners, but MMA is different. Is J.R. at his age and after all he's done willing to learn these technical move names and learn the backgrounds, nuances, and quirks of all these fighters?
Sure anyone can learn, but would he or would he just try to get by calling all the heavyweights hosses, saying all the black fighters were the best athletes the UFC has to offer, calling fights sloober knockers, and getting visibly erect every time Brock Lesnar's name is mentioned? |

As a play by play as proven by Mike Goldberg, attention to detail isn't that big of a deal. Krispy just wants to be cool and hate on JR.

No I don't want UFC to bring in non mma personalities when it's the best it's ever been.. Firstly Goldberg and Rogan are the best commentator crew in all of sports and neither need to be replaced.. If they were to change things up use some one like Couture, who has already done it numerous times and there is no question he is more knowledgeable than someone who doesn't come from a combat sport background..
JR is a horrible choice and its not as much as menhating on JR than you guys being retardedly fanboyish.. I'd rather hem bring back Blatnick, who I hatEd, than to bring in Jim Ross.. |

You will get a bunch of fuckwit MMA fanboys frothing like mutants because the thought of somebody from 'that fake sport' coming in and doing something well in their precious MMA makes them borderline suicidal. This however was posted on a 'wrestling' message board where half of the posters don't even have an interest in wrestling and the consensus seems to be that he'd probably do okay. I know which opinion seems more rational to me.

It has nothing to do with him coming from a "fake sport" though.. It comes from him not coming from a combat sport background.. Goldberg can hang cause he has had like 15 years to become good.. With ufc's popularity at an all time high, it would be stupid to being in anyone who is not a "sure thing"..

Aikman & Buck > Rogan & Goldberg
With the addition of the rest of the WEC weight classes and the UFC planning on putting on 30 something fights next year I definitely see them adding another commentary team. Maybe save Rogan & Goldberg for the PPVs and let the "B" team work the preliminary matches and free Spike t.v. Fight Nights. If they were to bring someone like J.R. in, starting him on those shows would be the smarter move than throwing him in with Rogan and Goldberg right away. |

No way in hell would I want to hear Liddell on commentary. I love the Ice Man, but the dude speaks like his brain is on a ten second delay. It's from all the years of fighting for the fans, I understand that, but still...

JR was terrible towards the end of his WWE run, I remember him calling Shawn Michaels 'JTG' & 'John Morrison' in the same match. Fair enough with Morrison, but JTG is a black guy in his twenties.....

If we were talking the JR from 10 years ago, I'd say easily. The guy would probably be just ok for the first show, but he'd pick it up fairly quickly. Now though, Mofo is right. He's not the same as he once was and probably retired for that reason.

Definitely would not want to hear JR in UFC. I'm sorry, but he doesn't even take the time to learn the names of wrestling moves, I definitely don't want to hear him call a Kimura "What a submission move."
JoRo and Goldberg are fine. Rogan is pretty much money, I mean the guy has gone to training camps to learn shit just so he could call it better. That's some dedication there. IF they were going to add another guy, it should be Couture or Kenny Florian, both guys who are knowledgeable, and can talk well. Although if push came to shove, I'd say JR over Liddel, as Liddel is pretty much brain dead. |

Why would the UFC schedule a fight in India and Brazil at the same time? Why would they even schedule those fights in the same month? I'm sure logistics goes into consideration when they plan the "MOTHERFUCKINFREE" on Spike T.V. shows and the PPVs.

Watch some of the Dana White Q&A's - this appears to be the direction the company going in with it getting so big that they can have fights happening all over the world at the same time. All viewable from the comfort of your computer screen.
