So much for The Legacy reunion I always wanted.
The Stardust character was great for awhile. But these days, Cody's just been around. Wouldn't mind one bit if he came back. But, more power to him for moving on to bigger and better things. |

I think goig Stardust ruined his chances of being a main eventer. When he was dashing he was one of te few heals That could generate heat. Maybe he was too small but I thought he was great...then Stardust happened.

I hated Stardust. Really hated the gimmick.
Cody probably would have been World Heavyweight Champion by now if they'd stuck with the brand split/two championships, and he'd have looked great with the Big Gold Belt. |

TLDR version: Cody realized he wasn't going any further than he was now and felt screwed by creative, so he's leaving and will continue to wrestle. |

Good for him, should find work pretty easy. Is the Rhodes name his or would he have to go by his real name?

I read his statement, much respect. He's not whining and quitting, he's accepting his fate and going to try to prove everyone wrong on his own. He never let it effect the product, where as ryback let it show through in his on screen character. Cody was in Very professional to the end.
Really wish him well. Hope he can end up in NJpW or Lucha, something to keep his name big. He's young, he could come back in 5 years with a run like AJ. |

Man, classy exit for Cody. He really lays it into the head writers, ha-ha. But Gerty is right too -- even if he dropped the gimmick he's still got that stank of having been around for ages and not cracked that main event spot. Him going away, doing a couple of acting gigs, working in New Japan, Europe or the indies will help him out tremendously. I can see him putting the Feud of the Year together with someone in the right environment. I'd love to see him versus Chris Hero actually.
Agreed that Ziggler could use the same thing. |

I can't help but to think about CM Punk's "weird, bipolar business" line.
Cody was green as grass and featured all the time in his gawdawful capacity. Over time, he improved... but the better he got, the less he was featured. What other place does that? You don't have an NBA player come in, play like shit, and win a starting job for (team name here) with 50 minutes a night, but then as the kid gets better and eventually becomes good enough to make all-star teams, he increasingly rides pine until the team decides he's no longer a starter. I have a theory about WWE being so big that they forgot what made them popular to begin with. They tell all these people they'll be stars if they do x, y, and z... show personality, connect with fans, bla, bla, bla... but even if they do exactly that, and it runs counter to whatever they have planned, it doesn't matter. |

As a public company, most of their value as a company comes not from the company's actual revenues, but instead from the value of their stock. As such, there's no incentive to take a risk on an "unproven" commodity (Ziggler, Rhodes, Ambrose, etc.) that deviates too much from the company's "plans" (Reigns, Cena, HHH, etc) or things that will definitely bring them money/eyeballs (Rock, Taker, etc.) As long as WWE's stock price stays relatively stable, guys like Rhodes, Ambrose, Ziggler, etc. who aren't part of the long term plans or guaranteed commodities, there's little to no incentive and only risk (i.e., potential loss) with WWE putting them in any important long term position. In addition, they can afford to ignore any attention and any crowd reaction these guys get. |

It really seemslike the company finds 2-6 guys who have a look and rides them regardless of what else is going on. Right now their guys who they would live and die on are Cena, Reigns, Orton, Rollins, HHH (when needed) and Lesnar (when they feel like it). They claim they need guys to reach out and grab the brass ring but when they do if they are not one of the above they get relegated back down the ladder.
Had Daniel Bryan been healthy I gaurentee when all the above dome back healthy he would have gone back down to jobber. The fans made him, the yes and no chants got over huge and he managed to rife that wave. Did he ever really go over any of the above with conviction? CM Punk was an enigma. The fans got him over. He dared to be different and he spoke off the cuff not the script. More guys need to find a way to go off script and get over on their own. Cody was incredibly talented and did everything asked of him. Unfortunately he was not 6'4" 250lbs or named Seth Rollins so he needed to find a way to go off script. They wouldnt let him, he didn't have a catchy phrase for the fans to get involved with, so he is lost in the shuffle. I really hope the powers that be start looking in the roster for guys who have it. I am telling you KO is a main eventer. He is very good in the ring and entertaining on the stick, he ilicits a response from the crowd and is a great heal. If he continues doing what he is doing but does not fight for his spot he will get Cody treatment. |

The idea that WWE is like a play is dumb. A play has a central character and conflict and the characters and subplots involved are tied together by that central point.
WWE is like a soap opera. Countless characters interacting with each other in their own stories independent of the main story or event occurring. I found that analogy to be pretty lacking. |

I see what you mean from a tv and viewer standpoint but I'm sure as a performer it's more like a play. To them they are the central character when they step through that curtain.

Except that's not how it was presented. It would be different if he was told he's the center of attention when he's out there. The star of the play. That's not what was insinuated. It read more like he has to fall in line to serve a greater story. Which is dumb. The under and midcard do not serve the main event unless it's in a way like we're seeing with the Usos and the Club.
Nothing Stardust was doing with Stephen Amell was serving a central story focus. Like it would if it were presented like a play. |

What're you even talking about? His only analogy to a play was that he didn't want to accept having a "lesser part".
