Controversy and unexpectedness will help the WWE.

Back in the day, you really didn't know what was going to happen when you tuned into RAW, but you knew it was going to be something cool. It was common to be watching RAW and spout out lines like "Holy shit, Austin has a beer truck!" - "Where the fuck did all that blood come from?" - "No way is Taker going to crucify that bitch... holy shit!" - "DX is so fucking great."

These days, nothing makes you jump up in your seat. RAW has become as predictable as a Harlem Globetrotters game. HHH promo - IC Title match - Evolution segment - Christian match with Tomko's interference - HBK match - Jericho segment - Tag title match or women's segment - HHH match or segment to end the show. It's predictable and rather boring.

I think the problem is the writers. They keep hiring god damn soap opera writers who don't know shit about wrestling, so they just do what Stephanie and her croonies ask them to do.

Actually, the real answer to this question is simple:

Very few of them are ready for the main event. You could say Cena, Orton, and Batista are, but even thats a little bit of a stretch. No reason why they can't wait.

Benoit and Guerrero had nice runs just last year.

Jericho needs time to be built back up.

Undertaker and Flair will be retired soon enough.

I was talking with Bigfeets from Rajahs last night about how much of a rut WWE is in.

I think that we are all expecting something that isn't going to come (at least for awhile.) How long was the WWF in the dumps for before they were able to garner media attention again? I'd say much of the 90s. There are lulls in the wrestling business, it's not uncommon. But there used to be at least territorial competition, television competition, etc.

Now it's just the WWE, and the much lesser TNA, and about 100,000 ECW knock off Indy Feds with a hardcore concept and 50,000 WWE knock off feds with stars like Stone Cold Bill Williams, Boykind, Dude Cool, The Billion Dollar Man, and an evil owner. These feds last about 6 months each, before they capsize and realize this isn't going to work. Independent Wrestling promotions used to be something cool, it'd be a treat to see a top somebody from another territory wrestling in yours. Now it's just rip offs of the main federation. I rambled a bit off topic there, didn't I? Ok, let me try to get back into it...

The WWE's problem is they have TOO much talent. They bring in new wrestlers with an identical look, not much of a backstory, and pretty bland movesets. I look at Smackdown, and I don't have a clue who's who sometimes. Bringing in talent is a good idea if you have a revolving door or another federation luring your talent away. That's not happening right now, and the WWE has about 50 wrestlers for EACH brand to be packed into a 2 hour show. Pretty hard to do, right?

So when you have that many wrestlers, and the numbers keep growing, what are the writers to do? They plan for the short term. They don't let feuds grow, they don't let tag teams grow together (most tag teams now are brought in just to break up, whereas many tag teams were able to stay together for years without needing to do so), and they hope that we forget all the backstories they've given us. When a new wrestler is introduced now, they have been aiming to play young cocky heels. What seperates them from each other? Watching wrestling, you do have to watch it with a fantasy in mind...you have to try and run with the charcters.

But how many pregnancy angles have been done? How many marriage angles have been done? How many tag team partners split up after barely a few months together? It gets bland and predictable. And that's where it hurts. We've seen it all before, so we crave something newer and fresher. We're waiting for the next era. We're waiting for someone to make the jump from The Ringmaster into Stone Cold, from the Blue Chipper into The Peoples Champion.

And who's going to do it? It's going to get harder to choose. The people look alike. Nobody has that look that seperates them from the rest. And the gimmicks are going to get blander. How much longer can a white rapper last before it gets old? Could Shawn Michaels have lasted as a hair band 80s rocker in 1997? Probably not. If John Cena is the future of Smackdown, they should try to slowly morph him away from that. And if it's going to be hard to do with one wrestler, what about the other 100 (estimated from the WWE Superstars section on WWE.com, just counted, didn't look to see who's active or not) or so people currently signed with the WWE?
Making a third brand would not help the WWE. It may seem ideal, but it wouldn't help anyone really. Who would be champ for the third rate brand? They wouldn't be a credible threat...it'd be the illusion of WWE, WCW, and ECW all over again but under one person. You have one dominant one, a secondary strong one, and a weaker third brand. An illusion of competition won't help the WWE. What are they going to do, outbid themselves to sign someone like HHH when his contract is up? That's just stupid. A third brand wouldn't help, it'd make things more complicated and it would waste more money. They need REAL competition.

And is there going to be main competition for the WWE in the near future? Someone to make Vince shit a brick? No. The WWE has a monopoly on all the talents in wrestling at the moment. And why would a rich person want to risk his and his partners money on something that they have a snowball's chance in hell of winning? It's not going to happen. TNA won't take WWE down. They're weak media and talent wise, no matter how much you like them. I follow it off and on, and it seems the focus is going to always be Jeff Jarrett. Think Double J is going to pull the same numbers a regular Raw would?

Sorry about the rant, I'm just trying to cover the things wrong with the WWE today. And another idea I liked (from BIGFEETS) was if they're going to have the brand split continued, they should have only one World, IC, and Tag champion. If JBL and HHH are both the top champs, who's the better champ?

The things wrong with the WWE are: poor writing and direction, no competition, lack of original ideas, a 10 time World Champion who is getting bland with no single excellent title run, an influx of wrestlers, and poor development.

How can Vince McMahon remedy that?
Letting people who know wrestling book. Instead of hiring soap opera writers and going for the cheap T&A, hire people who know about booking wrestling. Want pre scripted segments? PAUL HEYMAN is there. We're aiming for wrestling in the WWE, not drama from an ex-soap opera writer from The Bold and Beautiful. Want to know why he's still not writing for that soap opera? Because he got fired. If his stuff won't fly on daytime dramas, why would it fly for the average 18-36 year old male? Isn't that the audience WWE wants to reach? If wrestling fans wanted to watch prime time soap operas, we'd watch Desperate Housewives or The OC or something to that effect.

He should also stop bringing in newer wrestlers that are clones of each other so quickly. At least give them a backstory, make them look a bit different, and think of what you're going to do with him instead of play as he goes. In fact, he should just stop bringing in wrestlers period. Use what you have, and work with them. Was The Rock over immediately? No. It took time.

Let HHH have some time off after Wrestlemania. Give your writers time to think of ways to take him. Let HHH do some movies. Tell him to take Stephanie with him. See how the WWE does without the WWE prom king and queen.

Of course Vince can't grow competition on his own, and there is no reason for him to break his ass if he has no immediate threat to take him in the ratings. Maybe he's just saving the good ideas for a rainy day.
:dunno:

Oh well, I just felt like ranting and touched some base with my thoughts.
See ya.

Make it 7. I did forget Kurt Angle.

They are about the only guys ready for the title picture (and not needing retirement).

Edge? The fact that he's heading there makes me wanna puke. He's great, but one of those guys who are inherently midcard. Great IC champ.

Ditto for Christian.

Big Show? If he so much as touches the strap on TV again, I just might be done with WWE.

Shawn Michaels? I mark for the guy. Still great in the ring. Should be putting guys over now. Besides, with Jannetty back in the fold, I want the Rockers back for a short term run to help the poor tag division.

Well they are constantly put up there around the guys I already have mentioned.

Lets see: Benjamin? Another year or two...if all goes well. He has potential, but thats all it is right now.

Kane... ahh, here's a guy some people on the net keep talking about. Never really was high on him myself.

Muhammad Hassan? Bad Joke, I apologize.

Carlito? I'll need to see more ring work. Either way, everybody needs time. Too early.

Does this place ever get active though?
Rajah's has its very active moments, but on here it seems like you guys get just a handful of guys here a day.

It's never actually active because Kane Knight usually eats all the noobs.

Saying that the WWE's problems are "poor writing and direction" is like saying Michael Jackson is a little fucked up. We get it.

As to starting up a third show: No. SD! is barely tolerable and in case you missed it the WWE is having problems keeping their programming on the air as it is. Sponsors don't flock to pro-wrestling. So its a bad idea and its not very plausible.

It's hard to tell if someone is actually ready for the main event unless they actually make a run in the main event scene. And I don't necessarily mean strap a title on someone's belt. I mean produce a single episode of Raw that isn't entirely about Triple H, what Triple h is feeling, how will Triple H react to what just happened, and "JR WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN WHEN TRIPLE H GETS HER???!!!"

As long as no sound bytes are involved. Steph is hot, I give her that, but every time I hear her voice, my penis shrivels up inside me and takes my nuts with it for safety's sake.

I've advocated the idea of turning Heat/Velocity into sort of a farm league show for a while now, and I think it could work, as long as they develop storylines and the like. Heck, you could even riff off the whole "reality" craze, and have competitions for tickets to the "big leagues."

The only problem is it would require effort, just as main eventers on a C show would.
i see that they are slowly starting to do this (sorta)
I mean, basically the entire CW storyline takes place on velocity, and much of the women's title stuff does too (altho not the christy/trish stuff).
