Bret is abetter pro wrestler n story teller than Angle.Bret could adapt styles in the ring from brawling with Austin to technical wrestling with Benoit. All without being hooked on drugs. If you believe Angle surpasses bret, youre fuckn. stupid

Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels are the best ever inside the ropes. They're both entertaining as hell on the stick too.

I feel guilty not naming Flair and others as well, but there's always lists and stuff.
IMO, single best all-time, HBK.

Justing based off of the people mentioned on this page alone...

Flair > Michaels > Austin > Angle > Benoit > Edge > the stick > Hart

If Michaels wouldn't have had to retire in 1998 and missed the "Attitude Boom", Michaels would easily have been considered one of the greatest of all time no questions asked (of course his back injury was just to get out of jobbing right Rob?).

Him not being a part of the big attitude boom sucks in the sense that we didn't get to see him be a part of that era and be surrounded by stars like Austin, Rock, HHH, Foley, Angle, Jericho etc.

The same can be said about Bret. It would have been amazing in theory for him to be around during that time.

HOWEVER, if it weren't for Michaels absence (and Bret's departure for that matter) that boom period as we call it wouldn't have been the same. I'd go as far as to say it may never have even happened. The same stars wouldn't have risen to their spots, and the freshness of the scenery and faces wouldn't be there.

Also, they may have gotten stale. Don't get me wrong, it'd have been great to see Bret vs HHH in 2000, or HBK vs The Rock and all that jazz. But a big part of the appeal of how great those things would have been is as a result of them not taking place. The want for HBK to come back grew more and more simply because he wasn't around during this time.

P.S. HBK could have, and was supposed to, be back in action and part of the WWF circa WM17.
