A Bug's Life is vastly underrated...so much better than Cars.

There were a lot of films about memory loss all coming out about the same time too... Memento, Butterfly Effect, Eternal Sunshine, 50 First Dates and the Jason Bourne films all across a couple of years.

I'm sure I'm (yeah, yeah) forgetting some too.

Speaking of The Butterfly Effect, I really enjoyed that movie (the Director's Cut ending was bad, though)... but I recently downloaded Butterfly Effect 2... fucking awful movie, never even got round to watching the end because it sent me to sleep.

They had a real audacity putting the Butterfly Effect name to that God-awful script to make a few extra bob, it bore little to no resemblance to the ideology, style, message or even continuity of the first film...

the only similarity is that the lead character can go back in time, at will, by staring into a photograph (despite no mention of ever having had blackouts in the past, which as the first film laid out, would happen during a period when his future self would overtake his past self's body)... it's just a crappy time travel film with small ambitions, and it's tarnished the legacy of what was a great film.

Armageddon and Deep Impact
The Cave and The Descent
Antz and A Bug's Life

these were the first 3 that came to mind and probably the most glaringly similar rleased at the exact same time, but everyone already mentioned them naturally

bullshit they are completely different stories. Just because a main character is pregnant doesn't make the movies the same.

Dude Knocked Up is about keeping the baby and Juno is about not keeping the baby, one is about adults, the other about teens and that's just two of the most basic differences, they aren't identical plots at all, not even close.

Okay let me spell it out...

THEY. ARE. BOTH. PREGNANCY. COMEDIES. RELEASED. AROUND. THE. SAME. TIME.

I didn't say they were identical plots, just similar enough for comparison in a thread about movies with very similar plots/ideas being released close together.

They are no more "identical" than Deep Impact and Armageddon were, or Wyatt Earp and Tombstone were, yet nobody has jumped to defence of those films.

I agree

Antz and Bugs life were different however were similar for different reasons:
  • The Antz had to take out some power hungry Ant
  • Bug Life they had to fight grass hoppers
