Why do two movies with virtually the same plot always come out around the same time?
Knocked Up and Juno
Volcano and Dante's Peak The Truman Show and EdTV Armageddon and Deep Impact This is fun, come up with more. |

Hows about 16 Blocks, and at least the first half of Die Hard 4? Now they even had the same actor in the same role!

How about all the shitty "scary" movies that come out, like The Eye.

The Illusionist and Magicians (even though, as I understand it, one was drama, the other a comedy... I really ought to check out Magicians too, Mitchell and Webb are amazing)

Never heard of Magicians, but The Prestige came out shortly after The Illusionist.

What do Juno and Knocked Up have in common other than a character being pregnant.

I read or watched something about this on TV. And usually they make a lot of money this way. Maybe to give an alternative or something.

Wyatt Earp and Tombstone is the most obvious to come to mind
Also Goodfellas and Godfather Part III, absolutely different takes on the mafia story but still |

Also, Pixar / Dreamworks are the worst for this shit, since they seem to do it entirely on purpose. Shark's Tale / Finding Nemo, Madagascar / The Wild, Antz / Bug's Life... and sometimes you'll get some random third party CGI movie jumping in the mix, like Happily N'ever After, Over the Hedge and Surf's Up.

You missed Flushed Away/Ratatouille The Wild wasn't Pixar, it was Disney. And out of all those movies you mentioned, the Pixar one is always far superior, and always had their movie in productions before Dreamworks. This is because Pixar is the best animation studio on the planet. |

Other than that most basic plot outline, they're 2 very different films, in tone, performance, humour, characters, etc..

So are most of the others mentioned. There's no denying that two "woman becomes unexpectedly pregnant, we follow how this affects her life, future and relationship with the father as the main plot point of a comedy" movies, released just months apart, calls for a comparison of this nature.
