Wasn't around for the GrandMaster Sexay days, but even though S2H had a shit gimmick, he at least had a somewhat decent career before eventually being turned into SD!'s resident jobber before releasing him altogether.

I may have said that but it doesn't mean that I'm totally ignorant of the Attitude Era...I've watched plenty of stuff online from back then, and it's 3486972531452x better than anything they've been doing these past 7 or 8 years or so.

I like Slam Master J. I don't give a shit about what any of you fucks say. I just wish his entrance theme was a cover of "Biscuits & Gravy."
The biggest problem SMJ is going to have, in my opinion, is that Hayes does seem scared about pushing him too hard -- perhaps out of fear of backlash. Right now, while I would like to see SMJ mix it up with someone like Chris Jericho (who is still sorta feuding with Cryme Tyme), and have a competitve match with him, getting himself over a bit more -- it just seems like too much for the dude. My goal would be to eventually have a Chris Jericho vs. Slam Master J match, though. To lead up to it, perhaps have Dolph Ziggler face SMJ in an "exhibition match" to prepare for Ziggler's match against John Morrison at Hell in a Cell. Morrison does commentary during the match, and then distracts Ziggler long enough for SMJ to squeak out a school boy on Ziggler for the pin. Dolph is pissed, and this leads to Cryme Tyme & Slam Master J vs. Chris Jericho, Big Show & Dolph Ziggler, where the faces actually get the win somehow. Two back-to-back victories for Jesse would help him look really good, in my opinion. Then maybe do another match with Charlie Haas, where SMJ uses something definitive as a finishing maneuver to win, and hopefully by then he has earned some stripes and can used as a solid mid-card act. It just occured to me that SmackDown! really needs some mid-card heels. RAW also has too many of them. I'd consider moving Chris Masters and Chavo Guerrero over from SmackDown!, or something.

I could very easily see Chavo going back to SmackDown, now that he has finally "given up" on defeating Hornswoggle. Seems like the only reason he even got moved to Raw in the first place was to be Vickie's bitch.

Exactly. And RAW just isn't the place for him. ECW could use him better, and Michael Hayes would find a way to make him matter again on SmackDown!. It's such a fucking shame that a former ECW Champion, regardless of whether or not you consider it a World Title belt, is jobbing to a fucking midget. It's reasons like that which make it hard for people to consider the ECW Title a World Title in the first place.

You're getting off topic. We all pity Chavo, but let's stick to how bad Slam Master J sucks.

Back to SMJ, I still need to see some of his in ring work. If that gimmick doesn't work out for him, he could just use his real name and go to ECW as the son of Terry Gordy. That would work but all of ECW's past has been downplayed so much to the point where it wouldn't and won't matter. |

Nah, the name change is the last thing that would help. He needs a gimmick. Just not Slam Master J.

The things that really hurt the ECW Title, in my opinion: * Rob Van Dam getting caught with drugs, and then dropping the title prematurely, and really hurting his chances of ever holding it again. That on top of him leaving the company soon after, leaving ECW with a vacuum they needed to fill with...anybody, really. * Kurt Angle leaving the company. I still don't know what all that fuss was all about, but Angle going after any title pretty much makes it a World Championship. If Angle and RVD had feuded over the ECW Title, like I am sure Paul Heyman would have intended, then there is no way it would not be considered a "World Title." * Chris Benoit kind of fucked the ECW Title over with his whole "murder/suicide" thing. There is no doubt in my mind he was scheduled to win the belt, and feud with CM Punk over it. After Benoit died, the belt was no longer known as the "ECW World Title," and they had to think fast and put the ECW Title onto Johnny Nitro -- the most decorated man on the roster besides Benoit at that time. * John Morrison is great, don't get me wrong, but he was just not ready to be seen as a "World Champion" when he won the ECW Title. I get what the WWE were trying to do, but Punk losing to a former WrestleMania headliner and two-time World Champion would have created a master/apprentice dynamic that Johnny Nitro could just not provide for Punk. As a result, Punk's ECW Title win was not nearly as impressive as it would have been otherwise. I fully believe that Benoit/Punk would have raised the prestige of the ECW Title to the point where it would have headlined at least one WWE PPV. * While I like Chavo Guerrero, his ECW Title win was sort of an "are you serious?" moment. They did build up to it nicely, but the WWE have just never taken Chavo too seriously. This could have changed, but he looked more like a lackey to Edge than a contemporary to him. Plus, Chavo appeared in the Royal Rumble while holding the ECW Title. Big mistake. * Kane was not a bad choice for ECW Champion. Granted, he hadn't been a WWE Champion for like nine years before he won his next "World Title," but Kane himself was not a bad choice. I would have actually have liked to have seen Kane win the Battle Royal on PPV, and then get his second win in a hard-fought contest with Chavo Guerrero. That's not what happened, though... * I like Tommy Dreamer and Christian, but neither seems like they could hang with the main eventers on either RAW or SmackDown! -- particularly Dreamer. This sort of brings the ECW Title down to their tier, instead of raising them to its status. I think what the ECW Title needs, is for a major star to hold it. A guy who has held another World Title somewhere, anyway. Jeff Hardy could have done it, if he never left the company and/or got busted for drugs. While it's probably "too low" for Triple H, Shawn Michaels or John Cena to do, Edge could win the ECW Title and claim to have won every single championship in the entire WWE. If I could make anyone in the company ECW Champion right now, with the purpose of helping the ECW Title regain "World Title" status -- or at least a view as such -- I'd probably go with Edge. Although, Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio are not bad options, either. |

I could have seen it ages ago, as Rey is just not on the same level as other main eventers. So if they did want to do something with Rey, putting the ECW Title on him was always a good option.
But now that he has been suspended, something like that could also work for Rey. It keeps him useful, while not "rewarding" him at the same time. |
