Yeah I remember reading it. I figured that was partially responsible for this thread, so that was a lot of the inspiration behind my posts. I feel the same way about Street Fighter (not that the last one was bad or anything), but the fireballs and flaming uppercuts are so intertwined with the legacy behind the games you can't really get rid of them and still try to say they are the same series. But I believe the ideas we've presented in here could make a great fighting game.

Another idea I've had about something to create a game actually comes from the first MK game and they really kind of got away from it. MK1 was great, to me, in the aspect that it looked like an actual martial arts movie and that is something that is missing today. I know the way I'm writing this is going to sound dumb, but every game today looks like a computer rendering of a person no matter how realistic of a rendering it is, it still isn't the same as seeing a real person. Like MK1 just took a bunch of random martial artists threw them in front of a green screen and called it, and while the backgrounds could use some work, I think that would be a big help for them to go back to using characters that look like actual looking people as opposed to street fighters animated look and Tekken's CGI look.

I see what you mean, not enough emphasis on realistic models anymore. There's a lot of 'stylish' models these days.

I don't really understand the appeal of "realistic" models. Sure they may look great but thats it really. I find them rather boring mainly due to the fact that they lack style.

It's another form of presentation for me.

Like, you know I like a good stylish look to characters, but I also find an appeal to something like Drake's Fortune and Indigo Prophecy (and now Heavy Rain). The look in those games are realistic, and that lends some 'style' (ironically) to the more extraordinary events happening around them (they're still in videogames after all).

That may be hard to do in a fighting game, and a bore to look at, but let's just change the setting. Imagine an HD sequel to Bushido Blade. Believably dressed characters of the feudal Japan era with a realistic fighting system. Hell, put any game in a past era - everything seemed to look better back then (or at least more interesting).

Style isn't merely 'more elaborate than norm' to me. Not that I'd make a game with characters dressed in normal clothes!

I like fighting games that are relatively easy to pick up and play (since I'm more of a casual fighting game player) but also have depth if you want to really master them. I would rather play Street Fighter IV, Alpha 2, or Marvel v Capcom 2 than Tekken or Virtua Fighter. Really the only 3D fighting game I really enjoyed was Virtua Fighter 4, Evo, and 5

Virtua Fighter was the first game I got when I bought my PS3, traded Motorstorm out of the box in on it. I really liked the game at first but after a couple days it was so boring. There was no story to follow whatsoever. The fighting itself was pretty good, but it was just so repetitive and lost it's appeal.
