Not going to say it's a bad number for TNA, but it's not good. They lost viewers on this, and it was built as a huge thing. Ratings are going to only go down without "OMG TUNE IN FOR THIS SURPRISE".
And next week they're going to be demolished by Austin and the fact that the way it's being promoted, it's set up to be the Mania go-home show despite there being one more week. I'm saying no more than a .8 for TNA next week. The question now is does Spike wait until April to see how ratings go or do they drop them back to Thursdays if they continue to bomb? Because they have three important weeks coming up against WWE (Austin, Mania go-home, night after Mania). That's enough for Spike to say "you're not getting the job done". It's been said before by many, but it's fucking stupid for them to start just before Mania. Last edited by Xero; 03-09-2010 at 06:23 PM. |

Also, it's technically a .93 for TNA rounded up, so they didn't even break 1.

Fucking stupid is correct sir. Why they are so full of themselves to think that they can go head to head with them in their peak time of the year is extremely nieve. Business wise Spike dropped the ball also, why would you allow them to? Just look at the product.

Numbers aren't everything - BUT next week's TNA show looks weak. It will certainly do worse than yesterdays.

Impact may get an teeny tiny increase next week in rating.
Pretty much a given we're getting "Diet" Stone Cold Steve Austin as a host next week. No beers or birds are gonna be flying so the older audience might get bummed out. Kids will go crazy regardless. Still, I'll tune in next week. |

I'm surprised they didn't atleast match 1.2, it'll be interesting to see how they react.

No birds probably but why no beer bash? Beer drinking is fine for "PG"
Not surprised at all by this. TNA picked the worst time and this is not even a Monday Night War. It's so uneven it's not even funny. WWE is about to have an event with 65,000 people in the audience and TNA has like what, 800 in the iMPACT Zone? It's like david vs Goliath on roids. |

The only reason the rating surprises me is that they got a 1.5 on the January 4th edition of Impact, what was done differently then to gain viewers? More buildup? More hype?

It's going to take time end of story. I wouldn't panic unless TNA stays consistant at .7 for weeks. but Monday from 8-10 was the smarter idea, idk who decided 9-11. Whatever though.

More build up, more hype, and that first hour gave them a huge major boost. They netted like a 1.8 during that hour.

Those are factors but the huge ones were a huge name being brought in to lure old fans (Hogan) and the extra hour lead-in.

I think the rating is pretty weak. But people just need to relax. WWE's rating was down too. Give it time, I'm confident in a few weeks TNA's monday rating standard will go back to 1.3, and then it's up to them to increase it.
The only problem like I said was starting this right before Wrestlemania, doing live every other week as opposed to every week, and not going from 8-10. Their rating would have easily been a 1.5 if they started at 8. |

While I agree that going against WWE during the weeks building up to the biggest wrestling PPV of the year is incredibly stupid, in TNA's defense they had to capitalize off of the initial excitement and buzz that the first Monday night provided so they were kind of damned if they do damned if they don't. Starting at 8 is also a goo idea.

Here are the quarterhours for Impact :
0.99, 0.98, 1.00, 1.07, 1.07, 1.03, 0.95, and 0.76 It appears most people switched over for Cena vs Mcmahon near the end, that probably brought the overall rating down a bit. |

Shouldn't this technically be Round 2 since they already faced off a few weeks ago?
At least TNA was able to keep the rating at 1.0 but Spike should really move them back to 8-10pm for a few months to help build up a Monday audience and improve the show (promos/booking/wrestling). TNA won't get any better in ratings so they should use the next 3 weeks to build up for the post-Wrestlemania weeks where WWE begins to drop in show quality. |

Wow, Flair and Hogan's return to wrestling only get them that? I'm really not that surprised, but I still do think TNA would be better off going from 8-10.

From PWInsider:
On his twitter page, Ted Linhart, the Vice President of the USA Network of Program Research commented on Monday's ratings, commenting "Not much of a Monday Night "War". RAW trounced TNA by 275% w/ total viewers. Also Impact much lower than the test Monday ep in early Jan." For what it is worth, SpikeTV sources indicate they are fine with TNA's rating, in that the demographics for 18-34 were well and the series brought its Thursday audience over to Monday. It was seen as the first step in a larger goal for the Impact show. |

Well, hopefully if they work on a better main event from now on, they can average out with a better rating. The quarterhour ratings didn't look too bad, just not much of a main event to look forward too.

To be fair, I didn't expect much more out of Cena vs Mcmahon either, Vince isn't exactly a great performer himself either.
