Debate: Wrestlemania as the Greatest thing ever created in Pro Wrestling?
Lets say hypothetically pro wrestling disappears completely as a sport or form of entertainment, will Wrestlemania be considered the greatest idea or achievement in the history of pro wrestling or will some other idea/moment be thought of as bigger?

Its the only event in wrestling that attracts huge hype and crowds even from people who are not wrestling fans similar to the Superbowl for football and the World Cup for soccer.

For alot of yrs Starrcade was vastly superior to Wrestlemania

Alot bigger marquee matches instead of mostly filler matches and then the final 2 or 3 big matches they built it on

yea, but Wrestlemania was always seen as a bigger event then Starrcade. Not just with wreslting fans, but taking everyone into account.

Starrcade had the pure wrestling and great matches, Wrestlemania had the glitz and glamor, which was more important to growth

Seriously, I'd put Wrestlemania right behind the Superbowl in annual athletic events in terms of "spectacle".

The reasons I ended up going with Wrestlemania instead of Starrcade were:

1) The mainstream appeal of Wrestlemania with only Hulkamaia comparable in appeal.
2) Vince making sure Wrestlemania was seen as the mega-event and planned out much better and longer than other shows or ideas.
3) Late WCW years had some poorly planned and bad Starrcade events when WCW should have done more effort (ex. Hogan vs Sting as a huge downer).

It's not even that original of an idea. "Let's have this big ass wrestling event once a year." It works and it's been very successful, yeah, but it's not like it's an astounding act of creative genius.

It's kind of like asking if the NBA Finals is the greatest thing to ever be created in professional basketball. All it is is an intricate aspect of the entire sport. There isn't anything necessarily unique about it in itself.

I'd have to say that while WrestleMania was the greatest thing ever in pro wrestling that the Monday Night Wars supercedes it. Nothing got the public more interested in wrestling than what was happening during the wars: two live, creative, interesting and exciting wrestling programs going head to head with two of the greatest storylines of all time: the nWo and Vince VS Austin.

To simplify, live Monday Night Wrestling is the greatest thing ever created in pro wrestling. It's a landmark that will continue until wrestling is dead (which will probably never happen).
