1-10 How big of a star was Bret?
Gertner brought this up, on a scale of 1-10 how big of a star would you have considered Bret? Was he on the same level as Hogan, Macho, Flair, Sting durring the early 90s. What about Rock, Austin, HBK, in the late 90s, and how does he compare to someone like Punk or Cena today?

Internationally 10, in the U.S 7.
Bret's not as big a star as Hogan, Rock, Austin, Flair, Sting, Savage. He's a second tier level star. Bret thinks he's up there with Hogan and Austin, but he's not. Reason: mediocre at best on the mic. I'd put him on the level with Nash in terms of drawing power. Obviously he's a better in ring worker, but what big gate has Bret ever drawn in the U.S? The WWF was losing badly to WCW when he was main eventing, and the switch from Gee golly shucks Bret to the Attitude era after Bret left for WCW boosted WWF and sunk WCW when Bret was there. Half of Bret's problem was Bret being booked poorly in WCW. but the other half was Bret just not being that big of draw in the U.S, which hurt Bret because WCW for the most part stayed in the U.S as opposed to WWF where Bret draw big numbers in Canada and England. |

Bret Hart was a big draw internationally but within the US, he wasn't much of a draw. But he was still WWE's biggest draw for a few years. Hogan, Austin, The Rock, Flair, Savage are all on a level Bret Hart. I'd put Bret Hart in the same league as HBK, but he was always a bigger draw than HBK, but I don't know if it's a big enough difference for him to be considered in a tier above him. |

I don't know about post-2002, but in the mid 90s, Bret was definitely a bigger draw than HBK. There is no denying that. When HBK was champion in 1996 and Bret was off TV, that's when many people started watching WCW. Of course, a lot of this can also be attributed to the NWO starting up around then, but HBK's girly gimmick turned off many male viewers, which is WWE's target audience.

I'd say 8. Bret was known worldwide, but unfortunately he was the #1 guy of a company during it's lowest run.
If Bret had been in WWE during the Attitude Era things could have been very different. But none-the-less, WWF at it's lowest point in the 90's was still pretty big worldwide. Maybe Hart isn't on that 'Elite' list of wrestlers that can be counted on one hand (Hogan, Austin, Flair, etc), but I do think he was a big star back in the day. |

8. Probably the greatest technician of all time but never had the mainstream appeal of Rock, Hogan, or Austin.

I think Brett wore pink because he thought the cum wouldn't show during a black light test.

The Sharpshooter wasn't always the name of Brett s submission finisher. Originally it was called Stu's Clues.

He's a 10 because everyone knows who he is (within wrestling and the general public) and that he is a famous wrestler. That is just one reason.

To be fair, he did appear on The Simpsons. That's gotta have some kinda pop-culture significance.

6 in America
10 in Canada 9 Worldwide I don't think his popularity in the US was anywhere near Austin/Rock levels, but when Bret was on top, wrestling was at a far lower point than The Attitude Era. It was just escaping the "cartoon/over the top characters" and heading towards HBK's New Generation," but no matter the era, Bret will always be looked at as one of the most technical superstars of all-time, along with Angle, Benoit, Jericho, et al. |

I'd agree with this. Maybe a 7 in the US. He was a solid main eventer, but I never saw him among the Austins, Rocks and Hogans. Worldwide he was more popular, though, and in Canada he is a God, pretty much. But that's only because Canada has a lot of pride in their guys. If Bret wasn't Canadian he'd probably be equal with the US.

I give Bret a 12 in Canada and an 8.5 here in the US... He was a 10 in the US until Rock, Austin, etc. came along...

He is the biggest Canadian rassler of all time. So with that said, he's a 5 because canada only counts as half a USA!

Bret is a solid 7.
If you think he's a 10, then you're probably one of those uber defensive Bret Hart marks. |

He's horrible on the Mic, He's a smaller wrestler which indicates he should be a flier of some kind, but he never went higher the the second turnbuckle, I do give him credit for a pretty pristine record when it comes to never making a mistake and hurting someone in all the big matches he's had, but his ego kills any respect I would've ever had for him...
I personally love the Hart family with the exception of Bret ... Give him a 3 |

I would like the point out that if Bret was Main Eventing during the low days of the WWF then so was HBK, just for the record.
Anyway: US: 8 Canada; 7 million Worldwide: 10 |

Most of us are capable of recognising this but we can also spot HBK's far greater contribution to what became the Attitude Era as well as the levels of performance that Shawn Michaels achieved post back injury.
