Can someone explain this to me...

Howcome when baseball free agents are free agents if they're not offered arbitraition they're not allowed to negotiate with their former team will March? To me being a FREE agent means you should be allowed to sign with anyone of your choosen.

I'm pretty sure the MLBPA put that in there, basiclly it forces the home team to try and sign the player/offer money, plus makes it difficult for a player to sign for less money.

Even w/ the arbitration offered, the orignal team only has till I think mid january and then if they're not signed you cant negotiate until May. (after the season).

I could be off, but I thought that's the way it was explained the otherday.

I was going to try to make up some sort of explanation, but then I decided that VEL would probably have something better. Thats not a lie, and I wasn't wrong.
