Can chicks play men's professional sports?
The four major sports or whatever. Is there actually a rule that prevents women from being able to play, or what?

The big 4 sports, I doubt it. The only sport they may have a shot in is baseball as it is non-contact and possibly being a field goal kicker in football.
I do think women could play on the PGA tour, but why would they when they make more money on the Ladies tour. |

I think the Tampa Bay Lightning used to have a woman goalie and I know the Indiana Pacers signed a woman once so I don't think there is any rule. There might be one in the NBA now though since they started the WNBA.

Rob, shut the fuck up.
While there are no rules or laws or anything against women playing men's professional sports I don't think they can. As mentioned before, maybe baseball or goalie in hockey, maybe even basketball. Women wouldn't be able to play hockey in any other position than goalie, they wouldn't be able to play football except maybe kicker or punter. The fact is that men are just bigger, stronger and faster than women and they would just get hurt easier. The men that play these sports get pumped full of drugs just to keep playing, I don't think that women would be able to endure the stresses as long. Its not really a sexist view I'm trying to adopt here but thats what I think. |

Big 4? You mean the Big 3 and the artist formerly known as Hockey, don't you?
As was mentioned, there's no such rule against it, but realistically women would have a very limited chance to be a professional in any of those. Doubt its happening any time soon. Also, the LPGA comments were kind of dumb. Annika Sorenstam completely dominates the LPGA and her winnings wouldn't even put her in the top 30 in the PGA Tour. Because of a lack of sponsors and TV ratings, the winnings in the LPGA are a fraction of the men's side. BU tthats how it should be since no one gives a shit. |

Well it does make sense. If Annika played on the PGA Tour the likelihood she wins and makes money from doing so is very slim. On the LPGA Tour she is one of the best, if not the best there is. On the LPGA Tour she can win on a consistent basis and make money from her winnings. So...
She plays on the LPGA Tour and wins consistently, makes money. Plays on the PGA Tour to be equal to men, she doesn't make money. Even though PGA Tour events would bring a substantially larger amount of earnings than an LPGA event she will make more money on the LPGA Tour because she can win there consistently. |

For a women golfer, there is more money to be made on the LPGA Tour, so it wasn't stupid. A woman wouldn't be as successful on the men's tour, so what he said was fine. There is more to be made on the LPGA Tour as a woman. The statement was fine.
The way it was understood was the only problem with it.

Nowhere in that statement was skill level ever mentioned or how successful they might be. He just used the phrase 'more money' which by itself is inaccurate. |

A woman being a punter or kicker on a football team is so fuckin half assed. If she wants to play, have her be a running back or a linemen. Now lets see if they want to play the game

You're right in that there is no real indicator of how well they would perform. If you can win on the LPGA Tour I guarantee you would be making more than if you were on the PGA Tour being a bottom feeder.

There is a line where it seems that nobody could probally get the right idea of a woman playing football (NFL) say if she was on offence and say a guy like Ray Lewis tackles the shit out of her. Then there would be the problem of figureing out weather he tackeled the shit out of her being a woman or being a football player making money to tackle people.

I've played american football and it's bloody tough, alot more anarobic than rugby, but probably more heavy contact, just not as much of the rest. Rugby is still tougher though
But it's pretty much tomato - tomato.

A woman shoved your fat head out of her vagina, I'm sure she could get tackled. Or tackle, if she was fat enough. My brother's fiance is a pretty hefty gal, and she bench pressed a couple hundred pounds her first time. Most girls would rather not get strong, though, since that's considered "unattractive," e.g. Williams brothers.

While I follow football in the US, mostly the Pats, that doesn't make it a really tough game like everyone professes it to be. "I just find it odd that a nation that prides itself on virility straps on 80 lbs of padding to play Rugby." |

*are primarily.
At least in Minnesota, there are women's football leagues cropping up. They're all awesome, leathery, bikers or lumberjacks. Retired firefighters, and that sort. God, I'd want to see THAT calendar.

Football has a completely different dimension to it than rugby because you're allowed to block and it's also legal to tackle without wrapping. That creates a lot of blindside hits that make pads a necessity. Also head on collisions at full speed occur a lot more in football than in rugby. Not to mention that it's legal to hit someone while they are in the air. Both are incredibly tough sports to play. In rugby you get hit more and in football you get hit harder. It doesn't make either more manly that the other. Both are great to play.

They are both fun to play and both deal with a great bit of contact. I would say that football is tougher on the body though, in my experience.

I wouldn't rule out a woman ever being able to play in the NHL. If one sport had a rule against women, I would assume it be baseball, just because it seems to have more stuff like that written down. But I could see a day when there is a woman capable of playing in the NHL. You guys talk about it as if all women are super models. There is a girl who played on a guys varsity hockey team in Minnesota, Annika Sorenstam can squat like 500 pounds, I don't think its something to completely rule out for hockey.
Anyway, to the rugby vs. american football argument, I would say that rugby players are tougher just by watching their sport, but to call football not tough because they wear pads is pretty dumb. It's not like they go out there with pillows stuffed in their bellies, they wear less pads then hockey players and hit players 10 times more. |
