When performing a cradle piledriver what benefit does the attacker have when he wraps his arms around the victim's leg before piledriving the victim?

Speaking practically, it's probably easier to keep a grip on the guy you're piledriving. In a kayfabe sense, I suppose it exerts extra downward force. That's what it looks like, anyway.

I'd say it's the force. You can push them down after they drop, causing more damage.
