So I wanna start making beats

I drum, but I'm gonna buy a drum machine, CD burner, an a-track thingy off a friend of a friend. Give me some info on Protools

My buddy will teach me the basics, since we are roomates, but there's alot of things I am clueless about when it comes to the technical aspects of things

My buddies' crew are MC's but now (2 of them) are starting a progressive experimental band. These guys are pretty much anti-top 40 (mainstream) when it comes to their taste in music. They're influenced by underground hip-hop and indie rock

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated
