5 things you miss
1. Quality tag team division matches.
2. Orton's old enterance with the pyro. 3. Maria before becoming a playboy bitch. 4. Carlito and mic time. 5. Solo brand pay per views. I haven't been around lately but isn't Vince worth a suspension after he racially abused Cena at Survivor Series 06. For the record, Cena was born black... but then he got all MJ'd as he grew up. |

1. Stables. Enough said.
2. Old School Survivor Series. Yeah, A lot of time it was used to get a bunch of guys with nothing else on the card, but when done right, like here. RAW vs Smackdown, or afew guys with actual feuds together, it can be quite good 3. War Games. Again, enough said 4. I agree with KK, shit like this: 5. Oh yeah, and this guy: |

Look, I don't think it's asking too much that everyone here go back and change the numbers on their lists to go backwards, or physically rearrange the items on the list to account for the strength in which they miss the items, for posts I have already read and will probably not read again as well as future posts to follow suit. Really not a lot to ask.

No, I feel that bullet points contribute to the violence in the workplace mentality. No asterisks either because then I feel like your are just invalidating or questioning yourself.

Okay, you can't tell because I was able to edit that so efficiently that there is no edited tag, but I assure you that was originally a count up. I didn't even need to delete anything for 3, that's how quick it was!
Edit: Edited again to incorporate the DWRS, which was not quite as efficient but totally worth it. Last edited by thedamndest; 04-25-2008 at 08:24 PM. |

1. The World Wrestling Federation. To me the second the company began to go downhill was the second they changed to the WWE six years ago. Quite frankly the WWE has become synonymous with mobile updates, diva searches, and watered down quality. That letter 'F' brought a much more intense substance to the company than 'E'. 'E' is the most common letter in the english language, 'E' is mundane, 'E' represents a monopoly in the wrestling business of a company whose mentality was that they won the war and that there is nothing else to prove. You're not supposed to tell us in your name that you are Entertainment, we are already supposed to know, no questions asked.
2. A combined roster. The idea of a brand split was pretty cool and first and could be nice if done properly, and for it while it was fine, but now it is just a huge mess. Adding the ECW brand was I think the stupidest move the WWE has ever done, as it watered down the roster to ridiculous levels, and devalued most of the belts the company had, more specifically the IC and US titles, by adding a third rate main event belt. Having a combined roster with 60 or 70 guys makes for not a prestigious main event consisting of eight or so main eventers, but it also makes for a credible upper mid card with guys who can transition between into the main event, as well as a competitive mid card full of guys who can eventually work their way up the card. Today the WWE has only two types of wrestlers: main event and everybody else. No mid card with substance, and really a lackluster card all around. 3. Wrestlers with character. The thing that bothers me most about the WWE right now is that their main star (I am referring to John Cena) is a joke. He is a one dimensional character who they think is marketable because he acts like a bad ass, but they forget the most obvious of facts that he is a dorky white guy trying to act black. He is such, such an easy target for ridicule, and the WWE does nothing at all to assert that. And this is supposed to be the star you base your company around. In the glory days of the WWF they gave dimension to their characters, all the way down to the lower mid card. It wasn't filled by a bunch of indistinguishable Cody Rhodes that are just there to fill up space on the card, and the foundation of their main stars wouldn't come tumbling down just by having someone say to them, "I want you to go backstage and look in the mirror. Maybe afterwards you will realize that you are not black." 4. WCW. WCW was always fun to watch even in its down years. There will never be another company that can replace what they were able to achieve in terms of being a legitimate second wrestling company. 5. The Attitude Era. What made the Attitude Era was having the right wrestlers develop at the right time. Sure the WWE today can make their programming more cutting edge and violent again, but it would only be a shell of their former self. Right now the best I can do is compare it to the show ER: you liked it because the original characters were part of what made the show. As the original characters leave, you try to bring in some new characters to replace the ones that departed, and it just isn't the same. |

Well, the damndest has forced me to enforce a new rule.
All lists and numbers here and throughout the site must now use the Don West Numbering Scale. For example: WrestleMania ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() = WrestleMania 5 = First in a list![]() = Second in a listAnd so on. You can also use Roman Wests: ![]() |![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() = XXVAnd so on. I would like to have my computer put up Don West instead of on of the number+shift things. I could probably go without the percent symbol and just convert everything to decimals.

Numbered, but in no particular order.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() WWF Event Center: A place where workers could put themselves over with cheesy promos with really awesome backgrounds. Seriously, those backgrounds RULED. ![]() ![]() ![]() Mid-card: WWE's current opinion of card build-up can be summed up as Main Event and everyone else. Problem with that is simple: Your Shawn Micheals', your Undertakers, Your Triple Hs, and Your Batistas aren't gonna be wrestling forever (except maybe the Triple Hs.). You need to groom someone for that role once they retire, or if they fall to injury. Also, good mid-carders can help get the crowd into the match as well. But, why should we care about a midcard if they can all get crushed by one guy?![]() ![]() Different Looking Wrestlers: Why the fuck is the WWE roster full of Tall, Muscular guys with short hair and a generic Tattoo on their arm? The only exceptions are the guys on top. The criteria suggested by Johnny Ace clearly doesn't work, especially when you consider that, of the biggest stars in WWE History, Only two people (Hulk Hogan and the Undertaker) meet the criteria. WHy should I give a shit about someone like Mike Knox, when I have seen a dozen guys on the WWE roster that look almost EXACTLY like him?![]() Programs that draw in the female fans: I'm not trying to sound gay or anything like that, but you can't focus on just one demographic. I'm sure the 18-34 year old male is important (I think that's the demographic), but you have to appeal to EVERYONE to get a successful program. The last time a program really worked on that level was the Matt Hardy-Edge feud, a feud that MADE Edge and has left Matt Hardy as Perenially over. Even that was botched. The Punk-Knox feud COULD have worked if they didn't drop the ball. The reuniting of Elizabeth and Savage from Wrestlemania 7 was huge because it got the female audience into the program. Beyond just female fans, wrestling can reach across all demographics if booked properly. Managers: Not every wrestler is a good talker. Sometimes they need someone to do the talking for them. That's the role of the Manager. Not every wrestler is going to be over on their own. Sometimes they need someone who is associated with heat, thus giving themselves heat by proxy. Again, that's the role of the Manager.

A few more:
- The old title belt. - Shooting Star Press - Lively crowds - Catchphrases (there's some now, but almost every wrestler had one in the attitude era) - When the Royal Rumble matches consisted of almost the entire roster. |

Oh, it's very successful. Cena's hot merchandise. the problem is, this is pro wrestling, and appealing to minority demographics over the majority is a bad idea.
Which is what I was trying to get at. Suggesting they market more to the minority demographics is more or less suggesting what they're doing. While the coveted market is 18-34 males, and wrestling will always be a guy's thing, they're marketing people based on how they do with kids, women, and so on. And merch sales are good, so.... |

Ok, I understand where you're coming from.
In that case, let me state this thing I miss, then... ![]() Progams that actually result in an emotional investment in a character: I've always been more of a Jake Roberts fan than a Hogan fan. Some of his best storylines were the personal ones (the feuds with Rude, Savage, and DiBiase, and to a lesser extent the Martel feud). His feuds, as a face OR a heel, always made the fans give a shit about whoever the face was. I really see no need to give a shit about any face in the WWE right now. The last time a feud was done that generated an emotional investment in a character was the Matt Hardy/Edge feud. While Hardy was booked to be a non-threat to Edge for most of the feud, the fans got behind him. If they could sustain something like that with say, for shits and giggles, C.M. Punk, he'd be a bigger Merchandising draw than Cena. But I'm sure you'll be able to prove me wrong, so I'll give you that shot, boss. |
