I don't get what the big deal is with advertisements in gaming
I don't get why people get so worked up about advertisments in games. Personally, I like that they are in there. I remember way back in the 90's when I got the new FIFA game, and saw there were snickers and pioneer ads in the stadium. I remember thinking "holy crap, they have ads for real products, just like real stadiums. Super duper!"
Its more realistic to have real ads in the game. Especially in a city enviornment. "But fignu- uh, I mean U-warrior, there's so much!" Well, no shit numbnuts, its a city. Take a look at any city or stadium. Advertising everywhere. I mean, if I'm playing oblivion, and there is a pepsi machine outside ye olde weapon shop, then yeah, thats ridiculous. But if there is a pepsi ad in an enviornment where there would be a pepsi ad in real life, Then I think thats awesome, and it immerses me more into the game's world. |

The Count's Arms is actually the weapon shop that has the pepsi machine outside it in Oblivion

Once again, I must agree with the Figwarrior. However, I think that they ought to knock the price down by $5 or something if they are going to go all out with the ads like in San Fransisco Rush where there were Mountain Dew ads and icons all over the god damn place.

As long as it fits and is not forced down your throat then I have no problem with it at all. I have never honestly noticed it in majority of the games I play though unless I'm looking for it specifically.

Yeah, if I can say one negative thing about it, is that a few games don't space the ads out well enough. It's fine if there is a lot of variety in the ads, but like you said. If its the same ad on every freaking block, its like "Ok, I know there isn't that many mountain dew ads in san fran."

Of course, "realistically," 99% of us couldn't play soccer worth a shit, and forget web-slinging, driving like a maniac, or shooting up police.
Sorry, but talking about how it's realistic doesn't particularly sound like a solid argument to me. You can make an immersive envornment without brand names pretty easily, and with the rising cost of video games, I don't see why anyone should pay to start at retarded advertisements. I mean, sure, there's always some idiot who says "I don't mind it," Whether it be waterboarding at Gitmo or the nickel increase in the Subway menu, but whatever. |

A lot of people seem to be pissed off about the advertisements in Guitar Hero games.
That I don't get at all. Unlike almost all other games, the immersion from gh comes from your own mind, rather than the world they present. They could throw a man's anus in their and I wouldn't care. I think most people look at the stages when they first get the game, and go "Hey thats neat" and then never pay attention to it again, focusing on the song instead. Who the fuck is playing cult of personality while looking at the background, like "hmmm nice lighting on that amp there...textures a little off, bu- WAIT WHAT? PONTIAC? THOSE COCKSUCKING MOTHERFUCKERS!" |

Well, relatively realistic. Developers are taking a fantastic and unrealistic concept and putting it in a realistic setting. I think the more realistic the setting for an unrealistic concept, the easier it is to immerse yourself. And by no means am I saying we NEED these ads in. Nor am I saying that they even make that big a difference. But if done well it certainly adds a bit of help. And it certainly doesn't hurt as much as many of these people against it, think it does. |

The shit in GH and Rock Band is nothing. Anyone actually played that game San Francisco Rush? That was like Mountain Dew: The Game.

I don't mind it honestly, but you'd think that they'd be able to issue a price break. With the boom of next-gen games getting advertising and the amount of it should have balanced the $10/copy price difference from last gen.

I did.
But to be fair, back then it was kind of a new thing, so it was a faint risk for mountain dew probably. SFR being a new unproven title. I'd bet MD was calling the shots on how much it was in the game. |

Probably. They took extreme faggotry to a whole new level with that.
But it's really not that bad. Def Jam: Fight For New York was basically and advertisement DVD that just happened to have a fighting game built in. 5467654676 rappers, 345765325 clothing lines, Jacob The Jeweler, Escalades, Carmen Electra... it was ridiculous and awesome at the same time. |

Didn't you get to make your own fighter? Kninda good that there are real brands for that.
And fuck no, they didn't need jacobs, but they did more than just name drop the store. You could actually play as jacob, or whoop on his greasy ass like I did. Thats using a sponsor well. |
