SSF4 has a lot of characters and it's very balanced. Once AE gets fixed, it may be the most balanced fighting game for that roster size. I trust they can do it.

If you've seen Street Fighter X Tekken, you can see how… no one really feels that the Tekken characters are out of place. It's almost an extension of the Street Fighter IV gameplay. Whereas, on our side, it's going to be a drastically different game. It's not even going to be Tekken, really, when we include the Street Fighter characters and gameplay mechanics. In that regard, we'll probably wind up talking to Ono-san about the gameplay mechanics. As far as how the characters are portrayed, how they look, it shouldn't be much of a problem.
Tekken x Street Fighter will certainly be the more cryptic of the two in terms of gameplay. But we won't see any of that until next year maybe.

I still think it would have been cooler had the games been released at the same time. Seeing who sells better, who plays better, who reviews better.
Make a huge deal out of it. "Whose side are you on?" etc.
Found this on YouTube in the Capcom Unity videos comments. It was top comment:
Capcom OFFICIALY made an announcement already during this year's Comic-Con, Poison is a WOMAN.
Glad it's finally cleared up.

Ryu's win quote against Poison:
"Your looks can be decieving! I must be careful not to fall into your trap."
Chun-Lis against Poison:
"You're not very lady-like at all. I felt like I was fighting against a guy..."

The characters in the videos are:
Kuma and Ibuki. I was hoping Kuma would make it in just to live out the Zangief wrestling bears thing. This pretty much confirms Zangief to me. They wouldn't pass up the chance to have a game that lets you play as him and wrestle a bear, would they?

As Kuma is in the game, I thought I'd post this:

I loved this ending when I was a kid:
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HpzQb94-bGQ?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HpzQb94-bGQ?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>
Actually, it's a pity we couldn't have Gon in the game.
I wonder what'll happen with the endings in SfxT. I'm hoping they are at least animated. Even better if they are CGI like the videos above but higher quality, obviously.

I think, due to evidence, we'll get Raven for Tekken because he's shown in the water droplets behind Yoshimitsu in his reveal and I've got to think Street Fighters next reveal is Zangief.
Revealing Kuma just screams from Zangief to be revealed opposite him. Plus he's one of the original "World Warriors", so he will be in.

Interview with Ono during the past EVO with some interesting stuff like how they were able to merge the 2 different styles into a single game for Capcom's side and all the pre-release balances are going to be based on public showings and tournaments this year. Ono has a device built specifically for balancing but wants to see public reaction to the game to really figure out what gets balanced.

I visited the GameFAQs page of the game and, according to some guy (Yeah, realiable, I know), there is a leaked roster list.
I didn't look any further because the roster is something I want to see revealed through trailers and so on but I do know one character that wont be in and two that will. The guy has no proof or anything, though.
Anyone heard of this list? I get the feeling it would be a little more wide spread if it were real.
The character he claims wont be in is Rufus and the characters he claims are in are Sakura & Karin.

A new version of the game will be at Gamescom this week and we'll get more characters revealed. US media needs to learn its Gamescom, with an "m" at the end. Everyone in the Us keeps calling it Gamescon.
Imagine if the "twist" was that they included pretty much all the characters from both games. No one said there was a cap on how many they could have and they say they have free reign to do whatever they want with whoever they want.
I looked it up and both series have around about the same number of characters (the high 50's). I'm not saying I think it'll happen but it would be cool.

Our final two questions were about different game modes and online play. On the topic of cooperative, four-player tag teams, like in Mortal Kombat, or a one-on-one game mode without a second character, the only thing Ono could say was, "Wait unit Tokyo Game Show." With regard to online play, he assured us, "You're not going to see less [online features] than in Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition," and you might see some new additions as well.
If/when they confirm a 4plr mode (and even a 1v1 mode), this will easily, easily replace UMvC3 and SSF4AE as my main Capcom fighter. I care more about this than the roster reveals.

Two super bars instead of just the one we've seen up until now. 2 players on the same team, maybe, with a bar for each player?
Edit: On a side note, there are gameplay videos uploaded to CapcomUnityVideos YT channel. One fight (Poison & Nina vs Ryu & Ken) takes place at a skate park. You can see Yun skateboarding in the background and Yang watching. So, maybe they wont be in.
Edit 2: A cool musical touch in the game. When two Street Fighter characters are on a team and are both on the screen at the same time or doing a tag team ultra, the Street Fighter II theme tune kicks in.

Yoshinori Ono will debut a new system for Street Fighter X Tekken at this year's Tokyo Game Show, September 15 - 18, 2011, along with new characters as well. No word on if this system has anything to do with the image he posted the other day that shows two super bars in the game, but here's the quote from his Twitter account, regardless.
Relax, everything is going to be perfect TGS Can't wait ^_^ — Kid_Nova77
Ono: Thanks, but we'll be announce about new system in Tokyo Game Show... so busy... ;)
Also, Ready-Up.net put up a short podcast interview with Yoshinori, where he mentions that the storylines between Namco and Capcom's versions of SFxT won't cross over and hints at mini games or some other kinds of extra modes like Tekken Ball could be added in, potentially as soon as TGS.
This isn't a long interview, and there's interesting stuff discussed, so it's worth hoping the link to hear Ono talk shop. You can skip straight to the Ono interview by jumping to the 01:09:00 mark of the podcast.
A lot of the comments for the story are people crying that it'll be a "comeback mechanic" of some kind and that such a thing is stupid and wrong because it means people who don't have "Mad Skillz" might win a round. We wouldn't want someone that doesn't play SF 24/7 enjoying it, would we?
These are probably the same people that play as Ryu/Ken and Shoryuken absolutely everything so, whatever.
Does anyone agree comeback mechanics are bad? I really can't see how they are.
I wonder how many fights the haters of comeback mechanics have won using the system they claim to hate. I'm sure they didn't hate it that day.
It's like spamming in the sense that it's ok as long as they are the ones doing it. If they are on the receiving end, it sucks, it's cheap and it's "scrubby".
God, I hate the term "scrubby".
Kalyx triaD

Well for one Ono and Seth already commented on the game not having a blatant comeback mechanic. And if it did, I'm betting it would work like the fairly benign Rage system in Tekken 6 (or in Tekken Tag 2's current build). Either way people should stop bitching.
More likely it's the multiplayer mode.
And for the record, the only comeback mechanic I hate is the fucking Blue Shell. I have absolutely no problem with Ultra Moves, K-Meter, Desperation Moves, X-Factor, Rage, Death Streaks, or anything else that keeps people in the game no matter how obvious or under the hood it works. If you're good you'll work the metagame. If you're bad you get victimized. The only comeback mechanic that legitimately rewards a bad player is the fucking Blue Shell. Fuck that thing.

I have to agree here, really. The Blue Shell is pretty ridiculous. Especially because if you're doing bad enough to get one, you already have almost no hope of winning anyway. Short of a massive clusterfuck at a bottleneck, I've never won a race in any Mario Kart game using the blue shell. It just fucks over whoever is number one and maybe one or 2 people without the sense to move when they hear the fucking thing approaching behind you. Since I'm usually top 3 (Mario Kart is the one racing game I've historically raped at), I tend to get get fucked out of victories when the blue shell is a-comin'.
As for comebacks in fighting games, the mechanics are usually subtle or they have a limited window or they have awkward execution methods/horrible recovery times. They're not meant to be crutches, but they can turn the tide in an instant if you know what you're doing.

Zangief, awesome! I'm hoping Hugo works better in this than in SF3. So many times I'll grab someone with Hugo and his arms go right through them and the grab doesn't register.
I wonder who Zangiefs partner will be. R.Mika?
He wont be Rolentos partner because they don't do these reveals for both members of a team. Do they?
One guy gets revealed with these trailers, we see them in action and we see their partner in the water trailers who gets revealed later. So we have at least 2 more SF guys to be revealed.

Word, it's a new fighting game. The mechanics are not Street Fighter or Tekken. They need to shut the fuck up and let Capcom do whatever. It's like they don't even want this new game to happen. Kane knight, if you should stumble into this thread somehow, this is what I'm talking about.
Tekken is so throw heavy, I don't know what they'll do if Dragunov makes it in. Every other move he has either auto-chains to a throw, chains to a throw upon counter or chains to a throw with additional input. And Abel's anti-air grab is a direct rip off of King and Marduk from Tekken 4.

I was fine with SSFIV (though I pirated the original), but after that I've grown cold to Capcom and their game structure. I don't think AE is (yet) worth 15, and I feel like my 50 or 60 for MVC3 pales in comparison to the quality of what comes with UMVC3 for 40. Their handling of this "new" Dead Rising 2 game isn't much to my liking either.
I'm unemployed, and I want to buy a game that's going to fucking last. Paying full price for a fighting game and it not being supported with moderately priced DLC over a higher-priced disc release when you probably could just because you feel like it isn't right to me. That's just how I feel.

Well the best thing to do in that case, as it was in regard to Capcom, is never buy a vanilla version fighting game (and really this goes for most Japanese fighting games). Wait it out a year (even less these days), and you'll get some cheaper prices update either DLC or retail. You may have to play the hell out of the vanilla version to appreciate certain changes, but at least you know a better one is coming.
Still, I don't think SFxT will have a pseudo sequel like that. If it's like their Capcom vs SNK series, it will have proper sequels (though that means full priced retail).

But that's the thing. I have bought fighting games at release in recent years (which is extremely rare otherwise, I'm the definition of a cheap-ass gamer) because I want to play it when the community is at its best and I am coming in as fresh as a lot of people are. I literally have no one to play games with in my town anymore, so playing online is going to become more and more important for me to want to keep playing fighting games.
I'm going to buy SFxT release (probably) regardless of how I feel, so I hope you are right about this being the only one until a proper sequel. And I don't want to just blame Capcom either; I just have a fairly poor few of the value of DLC price vs. value in most games, Capcom just does it for things that I would actually consider buying.

That is my point. They shouldn't be packaging it with other features exclusively.

I'm just relaying precedent so don't hold me to that hardcore. MvC3 getting an update is kinda left field for Capcom (only Vs game that got an update like that was TvC, and even that was between localization). Capcom does pretty weird things now in reaction to industry trends.

From a business standpoint there is no reason not to, because the fighting game community doesn't seem to have the problem with it that I do. And I don't understand why.
Videogame companies in other genres patch games for free. When something needs to be patched, it means something is wrong with the game. So the devs take responsibilty for their mistake, and put out a patch free of charge.
Fighting games on the otherhand, ask you to buy a new updated version of their game to get fixes that would be free if it were any other game. Despite the fact that character balance plays a large part in the game.
That said, there is no sense arguing anymore about it, because as you said, AE offered balance fixes without the need to buy the DLC. Let's hope MvC follows suit, because that game needs fixes far more than SF.

MvC3 has a lot of under the hood work (more than SF4>SSF4), so there's no way vanilla owners can play Ultimate owners. Characters have new moves and such. I'm just happy I can enjoy lobbies now, because no spectator is huge turn off for a game I love watching as much as playing.
Still, will probably play this game more anyway.

It should be a very safe bet SFxT won't have an update until at least Namco gets their version of TvSF done which wouldn't occur until another 1-2 years.

If TvC counts for updates then Capcom vs SNK 1 & 2 probably also count. CvS 1 "update" ended up being the PS1 version (more characters) and 2nd Dreamcast version (only in Japan) while the CvS 2 "update" ended up being the Gamecube (EO system) and Xbox version of the game (EO system, online).

People on Eventhubs are arguing over how Sodom could be in if Rolento is going to be Ibukis partner.
I think they're wrong and it's going to be Sean that'll be Ibukis partner. His reveal image will be him throwing his basketball at us.

Loved the trailer. It was pretty amusing. I'm thinking we'll see a part 2 to this trailer.
With all the noise in the dining area, the chef will burst through the kitchen doors to see what's going on. Obviously, the chef will be El Fuerte (maybe in his Mika apron).
Then Law is going to turn up, see the mess of his diner and start fighting people.
At some point Paul will show up and then Mika. Seeing how big a fan Fuerte is, she'll help him out and team with him in the game.
As usual, I've been reading what people are saying about it. A common thought is "This trailer proves Zangief is gay!".
I'm not sure how it does when he shoots out a white liquid everytime Julia touches him and he even does the "I'm spent" droop at one point. You'd have to be 5 to not see what it's representing.

The epic story of Street Fighter X Tekken begins with that mysterious box...!
(When your vitality gauge is under 25%)↓↓MP+MK simultaneously
The story of Street Fighter X Tekken begins with a mysterious meteor that crash lands in the Antarctic. Within the meteor is a strange box-shaped object named "Pandora", which is beyond human comprehension. It cannot be opened by conventional means, but gives off a strong response when it detects violent confrontations.
• Press ↓↓MP+MK simultaneously when your vitality gauge is under 25% to activate Pandora. When you activate Pandora, your partner's strength will increase exponentially.
• The power of the character who calls upon Pandora is necessary to fuel the technique. By sacrificing their vitality to Pandora, their partner will be able to enter Pandora mode.
• Pandora is a system with a built-in time limit. In Pandora mode, the Cross Gauge will be filled to maximum capacity, and you will be able to use EX and Super Arts infinitely. However, if you are not able to defeat your opponent within the time limit, you will automatically be knocked out. Be careful when you use this technique!
Sounds like a mixture of those Supers characters like Makoto have (where she turns red and gets a time limit) and Dark Pheonix.

Yoshinori Ono confirmed to Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/events/tgs-2011/story.html?sid=6335007&tag=updates;latest;all;title;9) this morning that there will be some form of customization system for Street Fighter X Tekken in the form of gems.
Whether you can collect gems inside or outside of battle is unknown. Also unknown is what exactly gets changed when you assign or collect gems. It is also possible that the gem system will take place in a separate mode within the game entirely.
The article does confirm that gems will directly impact the moves of each character and their specific timing, allowing "character customization". Ono states that more details of the system will be revealed at New York Comic Con.
The article:
Fighting games have long allowed you to customise your favorite brawlers, but most of these have stuck to purely cosmetic changes such as costumes or accessories. Capcom's upcoming crossover fighter Street Fighter X Tekken is taking the customisation options one step further, and will apparently allow players to change character moves and even timing.
Street Fighter X Tekken producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed to GameSpot today that the gem system—which has been hinted at in previous weeks—will go further than simple costume changes, and will let players tweak individual characters and how they actually play. Ono said traditionally with fighters, characters are exactly the same, with the only thing separating players of the same skill being the ability to read a competitor (and a little luck). The gem system will drastically change this, letting players customise their characters so they are no longer straight clones, Ono said.
While Ono didn't divulge too many details, he did hint that the gem system will allow players to change moves and timing for characters. No other detail—such as what the process is for changing, how often you can do it, and more—were outlined, though Ono-san did say more detail would be forthcoming at the New York Comic Con.
Keep it tuned to GameSpot for more details on the gem system soon.

According to Ono, the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the game will allow DLC to be shared on a single PSN account so that it only has to be bought once and not per system. The only catch is 2 copies of the game are needed (1 for PS3 and 1 for Vita).
"...yes, they're different hardware, but they're part of the same Playstation family, so to speak, so we're already talking with Sony about ways to sync things together. As long as you're using the same PSN account, things you've purchased on the Vita version will work on PS3 and vice versa."
Also the Vita is in the process of getting a mini-arcade stick for the game and as of now, the team is thinking of it being an attachment similar in design to the 3DS having the 2nd stick attachment.
"We're actually talking to Mad Catz about doing something like that," he said. "You can't replicate the experience entirely on a portable, but I think if we made a small joystick that you could just keep in your bag, and maybe even if you're in economy class, whip it out during a flight, put your Vita in there, and replicate to some degree the arcade experience, it would be really awesome."

Dan is in the first video as well. Even though he's supposed to be dead in this game.
Pretty sure the purple close up in the second vid is Gen and the red close up in the third video is Guy.
Some are saying Viper is the third character teased in the first video because it's a close up of her alt, the same way they showed Zangiefs mecha alt even though he's already revealed.

Yeah, just read that people are saying that elsewhere. Mecha Zangief is in the background of a stage, like Yun & Yang.
Though someone has pointed out the the blue thing in the 3rd video is definitely Mikas arm. I'm hoping they're right.
I think they are. You can see yellow at the bottom (her hair?) and you can see white at the top, which must be her ruffles she has on her sleeves.
Edit:

Edit 2:
There is a stage that has Haggar and Sodom in the background. Now, Yun & Yang are in the background of one stage and Mecha Zangief is in the background of another stage and those guys aren't playable and neither is Haggar. It doesn't look good for Sodom right now :(.
Hoping it's a case of him only appearing when he's not being played as, like Tron in MvC3.

Electronic Gaming Monthly posted an interview with Capcom's Yoshinori Ono concerning Poison's gender. The discussion starts from her somewhat humble beginnings to how she's blown up as a pretty popular character in her own right as of late.
Here's a snip to get you going.
EGM: In talking to members of the trans community who have an investment or general interest in the character of Poison, one major concern I’ve heard has come from some of the videos shown for Street Fighter X Tekken in regards to win quotes. For example, in one video that was shown, both Ryu and Chun-Li made statements toward Poison regarding her not being a “real” woman in one way or another.
Capcom rep: Can I jump in really quick on this one? Those win quotes came from an earlier point in the game’s development, and while we haven’t publicized it too much, we’re actually working very closely with GLAAD. We’re very sensitive as far as not wanting to alienate anybody as Ono-san said, so we’re trying to be careful in that regard. It’s been an education process for us, but we do want people to know that we’re now working with GLAAD to make sure that anything that might be offensive has been very tailored to not be.
EGM: Ah — I’m really glad to hear that.
Capcom rep: At the end of the day, in the entertainment industry, you can’t go about willy-nilly and not be sensitive to these sort of things. Our goal here is to make sure we’re caring for all of our audience members, and make sure we’re not stepping on any toes. We want to make sure that the Poison fans out there—no matter which way they see her—are satisfied that the character is being portrayed in a way that suits their idea of the character, but also in a way that isn’t insensitive or demeaning in any way. So, we do take our responsibility in matters like this very seriously, and want to make sure we’re as inclusive as possible.
Comments on Eventhubs are the predictable stupidity on the subject.
I guess this sort of confirms that she is a transgender woman. Though, I could have sworn Ono said otherwise last year.
On the one hand, I sort of wish she was a woman just to shut up the people that turn everything into "Lol, she's not a real woman, she's a dude!!1!" the second someone even mentions Poison.
On the other hand, I like that she's transgendered because it gives her a character. Otherwise she's "generic semi-naked fighting woman #44588". Plus it makes her unique in the game and that can only be a good thing.
They could do a lot with her backstory, being transgendered. Off the top of my head, maybe she could have been a new police recruit at Metro Citys police academy when she was male but, when she confessed to wishing she was born a woman, her fellow recruits weren't so accepting of her and were cruel and violent towards her.
She left the academy and became involved in managing small time pro wrestlers to get by. She eventually could afford to fixed her gender and began managing Hugo who introduced her to Mad Gear, which she joined to get revenge on the recruits (now fully trained cops) that had hurt and taunted her back then.
It would explains how she joined Mad Gear in the Final Fight games, it explains why she has a cop hat and cuffs and it gives her a reason to be fighting.
There is probably a huge amount of holes in that but it's just an idea. Like Q, I'd like to to know more about her origins and story.

I guess this sort of confirms that she is a transgender woman. Though, I could have sworn Ono said otherwise last year.
According to Wikipedia that has the quote from Ono during a couple of interviews, Ono says Poison is only transgender in the US. He does make the joke about how her status has changed even in Japan from the debates.
Street Fighter IV's producer Yoshinori Ono, when asked in an interview about the matter, stated "Let's set the record straight: In North America, Poison is officially a post-op transsexual. But in Japan, she simply tucks her business away to look female."[11] He later emphasized it again when asked about what female characters could be included in the game Street Fighter IV, stating that it would be too confusing to include her due to the region-specific gender.

A little more info on gems:
At the SFxT NYCC Panel, Seth and Ono demonstrated the new Gem system.
Catch up on what we know so far, after the break!
Capcom said it's Magic: The Gathering meets Street Fighter.
Gems are equipped prior to a match and add special abilities or buffs to your character. Gems only add abilities when they are activated in a match. Activation requirements vary. You may need to land a certain number of normals or specials, or you may have to take a certain amount of damage.
Certain gems can be equipped in multiples, with activation requirements increasing for each successive gem. The enhancements also stack. For example, the first two Power gems add 10% each to attack power, while the third adds another twenty. When all three are activated, that enables a 40% damage boost.
There are also support abilities such as auto-guard and auto-throw break. Auto guard guards any attack, so long as you are able (i.e. not in recovery frames) but costs 1 bar of meter per blocked attack. If you have no meter while the auto-guard gem is active, it won't do anything.

I've been wondering if gems and Pandora can be used simultaneously or if Pandora deactivates gems.
Pandora gives you a huge power boost and red gems give you power boosts as well, the more red gems you use, the bigger the boost.
So, what if I play as Zangief, use a power gem in every slot, activate them all and then activate Pandora? Zangiefs SPD does about 50% damage when he's using Pandora, even without gems activated.
Would I be in some kind of "one hit KO" mode if I had both activated?

The cool thing is that I could go that route or I can use his built in strength and use the gems to make him move really fast, making it easier to grab people.
Same for other characters, if Akuma is in, he's always pretty speedy, so you could just stuff him full of whatever gems will increase his health bar and be much more of a challenge for whoever you're fighting.

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/u65y6Grl3m4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Run down by someone that did watch it:
• There will be no option to disable gems in SFxT. Ono said they're too important to the gameplay.
• Gems are designed to be complex — for advanced players. They really want you to think about which gems will fit your play style and approach.
• Preset gem packages for new players will help them along, though.
• The DLC load times for SSF4 AE are partially a problem with the infrastructure on XBL/PSN. Capcom is aware that this is an issue, though.
• Not all gems in SFxT will be opened up from the get go, DLC and other stuff will make more of them available. There will be a starter set available right out of the gate.
• There are two kinds of gems, one is passive and another is active. One type is geared towards new players, that help with blocking and throwing, and another type of gems that are for high level players, the latter of which adding a more strategic element.

A few bits of info from a 9 minute audio interview with Seth Killian.
• Gems are specific to each character on your team in SFxT. i.e. If you have Ryu and Kazuya on your squad, each fighter can have their own set of gems, they don't have to share the same 5.
• He adds that gems can be used to help balance the game yourself, adding relatively small bonuses to your attributes.
• Seth mentions that people haven't had a chance to go hands on with the gem system, but he understands there's not that much information out there. He hopes people check it out before they jump the gun.

Elaborating a bit on the gem system in Street Fighter X Tekken, Capcom special adviser, Seth Killian, spoke about some of the ins an outs on this controversial feature with Gamasutra.
Killian mentions that gems will be balanced against each other, and just because someone buys the special edition, they will not have an advantage over other players. Also, he adds that it's possible not to select any gems before a match, but there isn't a no gems option which locks them out of play.
This is a really good write up if you're interested in more details about the gem system. Here's a snip.
The Money Specter
How players will be able to get gems has also been a major topic of player discussion, with rumors suggesting microtransactions or grinding will be necessary.
"At this point we're still sort of figuring that stuff out," says Killian. "The game comes with some gems, some of them will be available as preorder bonuses and things like that." Some may be available packaged with DLC, as well.
"There's also worry about this guy [that] has more money and buys the special edition -- will he have an advantage over me?" The answer, says Killian, is no. "The gems, in the way we've approached them, are balanced against each other."
"If one gem has a bigger damage bonus, it has harder activation conditions."

11-01-2011, 04:21 AM
Pandora could be cut.
Destructoid was able to catch a few words with Seth Killian from Capcom about Street Fighter X Tekken.
Here is what Seth had to say.
Pandora [mode] right now I would say is pretty weak-sauce. I would not activate it. We're still playing with it and trying to figure [it] out... This is not the final form.
We're going to try to make Pandora more interesting or just cut it, I'm not above cutting it even though we just announced it.
So they might cut Pandora and it turns out you can start a match without selecting any gems. I get the feeling the community bitching about every little thing that isn't "tourney worthy" is a big factor in those design choices. Which is stupid.
It's good when a company listens to the fanbase but do they have to listen to the wrong things? Gems were supposed to be a big deal in the game but now it seems they aren't. They can't be, if you can play without them. Pandora was supposed to be a big "unholy gamble" mechanic but they might just get rid of it, though I hope they don't. I'd rather then just fixed it up a bit.
Maybe, instead of designing the game to what a small section of the people that play it want, Capcom could tell those people to adapt.
If they want to play as Ryu with in a generic, vanilla match. Go play SFII or SFIV.

I'd just make the timer longer, perhaps relative to how much life your possessed partner had at the time. It's a cool idea, but the timer is short and more property adjustments should happen to allow more chances to open somebody up (like unblockable status on certain attacks).

All this online hate about the gem system is stupid. The game is like five months out, and no one has even played a demo with the gem system implemented. I will definitely be upset if the gem system is ignored by the tournament scene.

The DLC/preorder thing is what really set people off (and I sympathize a bit), Capcom got carried away there. If the Gems were all stock and unlocked as you go, like getting better versions of a certain Gem after a while, people would be more accepting I think. Why would you say you need something and then charge premium for some? Of course that would draw lines in the sand (not only in the tourny scene).
And yeah some people don't like the Gems in general. Fuck em. Not every game has to be 'tourny viable'.
Drakul
11-01-2011, 01:01 PM
Why would you say you need something and then charge premium for some?
FPS games can do it with guns and racers can do it with cars. RDR did it with one of its DLC packs. If you bought a certain pack (I forget which) you got access to guns in Free Roam that those without the pack couldn't use. The loading screen even tells you that hitting someone who hasn't bought the tomahawk with the tomahawk would kill them in one hit.
I don't think anyone kicked up a fuss about that (even when one of them was an explosive rifle. One bullet from that and you are blown to mush.) or when someone used their preorder bonus super car in a Forza game in an online race.
If it worries them so much, tourney players can just not use the preorder gems in tournies and make a list of which gems they can use. Maybe whichever gems give the smallest boost in speed/strength/vitality etc.
As for Pandora, my only problem with it was that you just had to block or run away for 7 seconds and the Pandora user would die. I just read today that another way around it would be to activate your Pandora a second or two after your opponent activates theirs so they die first.
So if they could sort that out, we'd be good to go.
Maybe have Pandora only usable by whoever activates it first in a match. Maybe have guarding a bad choice with a high enough chip damage from Pandora attacks to give the opponent reason to try and fight instead.

I'm hoping it will be. I guess a spinning clothesline should deal with something like that. I wonder if they'll have a "range" gem. So your attacks have a bigger range. Or would that be a bit too much?
Kalyx triaD
11-01-2011, 04:36 PM
That may be possible, since they said they have other Gems of different types. Probably have throw range extenders as well.
Drakul
11-02-2011, 02:21 AM
I guess it depends how far they want to go with gems. The "safe" option would be to have gems only effect attributes like speed and stamina.
If they wanted to go all out, they could add in things like increasing your range, maybe an armour gem that decreases the damage you take when you get under 30% or something and walk through projectiles after you get hit by 3 or 4 in a certain time limit.

I'm guessing, by the use of "moar", you think we have too many of them?
About half the cast (18/39) of SSFIVAE had projectiles and the game only had 4 or so characters you could consider grapplers. No one batted an eyelid.
Of the confimed characters for SFxT, only 5 of the 28 revealed are grapplers while 9 of the 14 SF characters revealed have projectiles. Over half the SF cast have projectiles in this game but people still want Sakura, Juri, Akuma and Rose. I can't talk for Tekken because I don't know it well enough to know who does and doesn't have projectiles.
Every time someone with a grapple move is revealed or teased someone (usually on Eventhubs) always says the game has too many grapplers.
By the time everyone is revealed, I think grapplers will still be a very small number and projectiles will make up most of the cast or, at least, most of the SF cast.
The game doesn't have too many grapplers. They are just finally giving people who prefer playing that way a choice for once.

Anyone expecting an announcement about characters anytime soon, you'll be waiting a while yet.
Ono said on his Twitter that we'll have to wait until the Asia Games Show. I looked it up and it runs from the 23rd to the 26th of December.
Also, someone asked about making Juli and Juni DLC for SFxT and Ono said it's a good idea and did that ;D smilie. I've noticed he usually does that when someone is onto something. Otherwise he usually says something like "I can't find their phone number" or "Battle Director would say no" and do a ;( smilie.

Cool.
I was thinking maybe these outfits were ways to give a nod to characters that wont make it in but I just looked at Eventhubs and they say Capcom is calling these "Swap Costumes" rather than "Alts".
We have Bob as Ryu and Julia as Chun-Li and a few others dressed as characters in the already in game.
Any chance that these could be hinting at unrevealed characters rather than characters that aren't in?
Edit: Panda wouldn't be a seperate character but I bet you could change the colour around Kumas eyes independantly of the rest of his face to make your own Panda skin.

I did think the alts heavily hinted at unrevealed characters but Angel and Panda threw me off - no way they'd include model swap characters (unless they are in via edit). Lars would be so fucking hype, though.

New Gem info from the SFxT blog.
•The blog says that there is a certain category of Boost Gems called "Ferocious Attack Gems", and it lists five of them.
•All five of the listed Boost Gems have the same boost (50% meter gain increase) and same active time (15 seconds).
•The five gems' activation conditions are as follows; strike with three special moves, land a Launch attack, have your partner perform a Launch attack, do a reversal, or guard four attacks.
•You cannot equip more than 2 of the same gem.
•If you want to set three of the Boost Gems, they must have different activation conditions.
•To make the effort of activating gems "sweet to the mind" they made the activation conditions harsh.
•They are considering removing gem activation stacking and making it so that you can only activate gems one at a time.

More about that last Gem update.
Hey everyone! Today I was hoping to review all of the information about SFXTK that’s available. However, I’m thinking that we’ll have new information for everyone by the end of the year. So before we hit you with the new stuff, there’s a lot of other things I want you to know, so let’s review everything up until now!
Gems are definitely something I want everyone to get a good understanding of.
This has already been shown off on the official site, but I’d like to write about the “Onslaught Gem”.
The Onslaught Gem allows you to absorb 50% more meter for your Cross Gauge.
http://fast1.onesite.com/capcom-unity.com/user/gregaman/blog_photos/f1449d9d32752b87c2b1b572b8cfe2cc.jpg
↑Normally, Ryu’s close standing Heavy Punch gives you this much meter.
http://fast1.onesite.com/capcom-unity.com/user/gregaman/blog_photos/11b9133ef61af44597106584ddc3578e.jpg
↑One Onslaught Gem activated! You acquire more gauge than normal.
http://fast1.onesite.com/capcom-unity.com/user/gregaman/blog_photos/f285bad462f983bbaa8e4d72fa340de1.jpg
↑Gems can be set as long as you have the slots, so if you equip three Onslaught Gems, one close standing Heavy Punch gives you this much gauge! Just imagine all the awesome things you can do!
That’s about all for the Onslaught Gem.
Oh, and to activate the effects of the Boost Gem? Yup, they require that you meet certain conditions first. Check out this example!
Onslaught Gem type example
Activation: Land 3 Special Moves
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%
Duration: 15 seconds
Activation: Land 1 Launcher
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%
Duration: 15 seconds
Activation: Your partner lands a Launcher
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%
Duration: 15 seconds
Activation: Perform a Reversal once
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%
Duration: 15 seconds
Activation: Get blocked 4 times
Effect: Cross Gauge acquisition rate: +50%
Duration: 15 seconds
Hm, all Boost Gems have various effects and duration times. I’m sure there are some people there are thinking “I’ll equip three of the Gems with the ‘Get blocked 4 times’ condition! If my opponent turtles then I’ll get a ton of meter!”, and that’s great. There’s a lot of great ideas you can come up with! But wait!
With the current Gem system, you cannot equip two of the exact same Gem at the same time!
In other words, if you want to equip 3 Onslaught Gems, then you’ll have to equip 3 of them that have different activation conditions!
Yeah, that’s rough, huh? This Gem system is basically set up so if you want to get a great benefit, the conditions become harsher and harsher.
While you’re not used to the system, maybe it’s better to just equip a bunch of Gems that activate one by one.
Cool King

I've always thought it would be kind of cool if you could deactivate certain characters so you never fought them in Arcade Mode.
So you could deactivate the Tekken guys and only fight the SF guys or, if you wanted to implement it for online, perhaps have the game rule out matches with people who have, for example, Ryu as their most used character.
It would cut down on fighting the same characters over and over again.

It would have been fun without the gems but everyone would complain it's just SF4 with Tekken characters. Even with the inclusion of gems, pandora and tag teams, some people still complain that its just SF4 with Tekken characters.
I'm confident Capcom know what they are doing and it'll still be fun with gems and Pandora. They wont screw up a game people have wanted since the 90's.
When I say "they wont screw up", I mean to a normal players standards, like you and I, not the standards of the uppity fanbase that have done nothing but bitch about every new thing and say they wont buy the game when they obviously will.
If it was up to them, we'd see the exact same game brought out each time with no new mechanics or modes.
As for playing without gems, couldn't you select gems that have conditions you know you wouldn't meet? Like playing as Chun-Li and picking a gem that requires you to perform 5 grapples.
I'm sure Ono or someone said there was ways to not play with gems. I can't quite remember.
Calling it now, every match I am winning online will end in a rage quit when my Zangief speeds up or gains more strength. If the match ends, I'm betting I get negative feedback for cheating or being too aggressive. It still amuses me that people accused me of over aggressiveness in a fighting game in which I play as a wrestler.
Gems will be awesome for the people online that beat me with their gems and they'll be "for skill-less scrubs like you!" when I beat them using my gems.
I am looking forward to seeing the effect each gem has on each character and what other gems the game will have, if any.
I'm hoping it adds a bit of variety online. Fighting a Ryu with added strength, then a Ryu with added speed. It may not be a different character but it'll add some variation.
Unless someone figures out the "best" combo of gems to use and then everyone uses them. I'm trying to end this post on a positive note but I can't.

There are two types of gems - Boost and Assist. Each character has three open slots for gems, and can equip any combination of either type. Boost Gems are the backbone of the game, enabling you to customize a character with all kinds of additional powers and effects in five classes - Attack, Defense, Speed, Vitality and Cross Gauge acquisition. However, Boost Gems must be activated in each round by meeting certain criteria, and said criteria generally increase based upon the power level of the gem. There could also be drawbacks to compensate for the boost. For example:
Immense Power Lvl 1 || Effect: +10% damage || Duration: 20 seconds || Activation: Land 5 normal moves
Immense Power Lvl 2 || Effect: +20% damage || Duration: 15 seconds || Activation: Land 10 normal moves || Drawback: -10% speed
So, while the Level 2 gem (in this example) offers a bigger power boost, it requires a bit more work to activate, and also slows your character slightly. No gem is intended to be overpowered, and these are balanced through a combination of the benefit, activation condition, time the gem remains active, drawback and how many gem slots are required to equip.
Unlike Boost Gems, Assists are always active and benefit you as a player, not necessarily the characters you choose. They affect the difficulty of your inputs, or enable you to auto block or escape from throws easier. Now, while these sound like game-breaking boons, they actually come with a hefty price, be it a 10% drop in attack power or chunks of the Cross Gauge. Examples:
Easy Input || Effect: Special moves become easier to do || Drawback: Attack decreases 10% in battle
Auto Block || Effect: Block attacks automatically || Drawback: Cross Gauge decreases by 1 block when activated
In short, Auto Block is not a magic win button. Each time you fail to block an attack, you burn off a section of your meter. No meter? No Auto Block. While this could help a new player survive a few clumsy block gaffs, a high-level player may opt to choose a gem that provides a specific boost instead of the meter-leeching Auto Block. As for Easy Input, it's akin to Simple mode in Marvel vs Capcom 3 - fireballs and other special moves are easier to do, but you sacrifice other areas as a trade.

With a pocketful of GEMS you can dramatically change the stats and abilities of your characters in Street Fighter x Tekken. We’ll be releasing more and more information soon but to start with here is a great explanation and some of the menu screens of where you select the GEMS, you can also see the special restorative powers of some of the GEMS.
A total of 57 GEMs (5 Assist and 52 Boost) come standard in Street Fighter X Tekken. Players have the ability to equip three different GEMs that improve upon weaknesses or capitalize on strengths to enhance their inherent play style. The two types of GEMs, Assist and Boost, each have specific advantages and disadvantages.
Players can select any combination of the Assist GEMs, which provide helpful bonuses that are always activated but balanced by handicaps in other areas. Conversely, Boost GEMs provide a stat increase in one of five areas (attack, defence, speed, cross gauge, vitality) but require a specific condition to be met in order to be activated.
As an example, a particular speed Boost GEM will be activated automatically after a player blocks 2-3 stringed attacks from their opponent. As GEMs are assigned prior to a match, the activation conditions for the Boost GEMs are hidden from opponents, promoting an element of surprise that requires players to think and act quickly.

Okay, I have thoroughly read the gem blog until I got it. I am officially perfectly okay with the Gem system and excited about it. I am already running theories in my head on what I'd use with who.
Cammy:
Slot 1: Divine Speed Lv.1 - Speed +10, 20s - Connect with a launcher
Slot 2: Immense Power Lv.2 - Attack +20/Speed -10, 15s - Connect with a launcher
Slot 3: Divine Speed Lv.1 - Speed +10, 20s - Connect five normal moves
The point here is Immense Power with the drawback neutralized. I trust myself to land five normals with Cammy so I will have the speed I want.
Ken:
Slot 1: Divine Speed Lv.2 - Speed +15/Defense -8, 15s - Connect four special moves
Slot 2: Iron Wall Lv.1 - Defense +10, 20s - Get hit by two special moves
Slot 3: Immense Power Lv.1 - Attack +10, 20s - Land three special moves
Speed and power based on how well I'm doing. Iron Wall has a fail safe. I'm balls to the wall with Ken.

Maybe I wont go for those gems right away but I think they'll be my target gems. The ones I want to eventually be able to use well.
Speaking of Pandora, I was watching an old trailer just now and I noticed, at 0:23, that Pandora gets deactivated after Rolento is finished using it. It's an old video so I'll just link to it here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqCRubvOwm4).
I'm sure it's most probably just them deactivating it to continue recording more footage for videos but you'd think they'd cut the deactivation footage out before showing the trailer. Also, it fades away. I'd have thought something that was just in for the developers convenience would just snap away, like flicking a switch off.
If Pandora could be deactivated, they'd have told us by now, right?
