X-rays showed no fracture or anything wrong with the knee itself but it looks like he sprained a muscle on the lower leg itself since he was able to walk around and bend the knee in the lockeroom.

Celtics won't know the details or how bad it is until KG goes back to Boston for more tests.

ESPN is reporting that a 3 team, 15 player deal involving Nets, Pistons, and Nuggets is under way and could be finished soon.

Nets would get Carmelo Anthony, Rip Hamilton, and Chauncy Billups.
Pistons would get Troy Murphy and Johan Petro.
Nuggets would get Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, Anthony Morrow and around 1-2 first round draft picks from the Nets.

The other 6 players would be low quality and only to match salaries so nobody else big expected to move in that group. Detroit could also void the deal if they have to give up a draft pick should the Nuggets want a draft pick from Piston and they don't want Petro even though they would be saving money in the deal so a 4th team could be added to the trade.

Curious as to if NJ is expecting Carmelo to sign an extension or something. I'd imagine so considering what they're giving up to get him. Not sure if bringing along two past their prime players as the core of the team is really gonna entice him though. He's not signing the extension in Denver because of the team around him and its much better than the Nets. Can't imagine him doing that.

The rumor on the potential deal would include Melo agreeing to the extension or else Nets would void the deal since it would make no sense to have him for 1/2 a season when they want to build a team around him. The other players Nets would be getting are more of salary dumps for Detroit and to help balance the contract amounts being traded around.

ESPN said it would be similar to what Celtics did when they got KG and made sure the extension was part of the agreement.

Bill Simmons had a good article on why Carmelo shouldn't move to the Nets but instead stay with the Nuggets or another West team.

Money-wise, he's already made over $75 million so its not like he's short on money and would waste 2 years of his prime on a rebuilding Nets team or go to the Knicks and have that team gutted to fit his $18+ million he'd demand for next season (current 2011 salary).

Knicks begin planning on a multiple team trade with Denver and Memphis as a way to prevent the Nets from getting him and to get Melo at a "lower" value since the fans are forcing the Nuggets to do a deal now.

Denver could get a 1st round pick from the Knicks (Knicks would need to trade Randolph to Indy), at least 2 players from a possible Wilson Chandler/Danilo Gallinari/Landry Fields list, and O.J. Mayo from the Grizzles.

Knicks would get Carmello Anthony.

Grizzles would get .... nothing (more cap space).

As dumb as the deal would be for the Grizzles, wouldn't be surprised if they actually agreed to it.

Nets drop out of the Carmelo Anthony race. Nets owner was pissed off at both Anthony and his agent for dragging and continuing killing the deal between the Nuggets and Nets.

Knicks now don't need to make a trade since they can just wait until after the season and get him for "free".

The Lakers have now emerged as the possibility of trading for Melo. The deal would be centered around Andrew Bynum. The best part about it: due to the collective bargaining agreement, if the Lakers didn't care about the Nuggets shedding payroll, they could do the deal straight up.

Kind of crazy week for the Cavs.

First they broke their loosing streak against an LA team by going into OT and was the same way they last won a game (no OT games in loosing streak). Then the Wizards broke their winless road streak against the Cavs and finally Cavs win their next game against another LA team.

Could also do the same with the Lakers who had a bad record against elite teams and thought about trading Bynum away. Then they win 2 games in a row against good teams and considered not trading Bynum away. Lakers then follow that up with 2 stinkers against 2 bad teams and a beating by Orlando.

alvarado52
02-17-2011, 02:38 AM
Not sure what the Lakers are doing tbh. The talent is there, they just are playing like shit. Normally, its one of those things you can point to and be like 'hey, this is the weak link' and make a trade or some shit. This though? They just looked defeated. No trade will pull them out of this.

Update on the Melo trade rumors:

Knicks refuse to change their offer or add any more stuff after the Nuggets started to ask for different stuff.

Nets rumored to have rejoined the trade discussions and no news concerning the Lakers on any potential offers or if they really had any offers besides the rumored Bynum package.

Right now it looks like if a deal is done, it won't be a multi-team deal and just a straight 2 team process since every other team backed out.

Felton, Gallo, Chandler, Mozgov, Curry, Randolph, 2014 1st rounder, 2 2nd rounders is a ton. Oh well, extremely happy to to get Carmelo and Billups should be solid for a year or two.

Knicks definitely gave up too much in terms of this year but cap issues aside, the Melo move helps them a lot for next year and beyond.

The Nets must have had a good deal in place to make the Knicks rush since it looked much easier for the Knicks to pick him up for free after the season.

yea, I don't expect them to do anything this year, but if they can grab a few nice role players for the next few years and possibly Paul, then it'll work out. Chauncey will be good for another 1-2 years

Hanso Amore
02-22-2011, 01:38 PM
I would always take Chauncey over FELTON. So that is a good trade off.

So basically they traded

Randolph and Curry for Brewer and cap room. Good Trade. Brewer is a good defender off the bench and Randolph didnt fit the system and didnt play.

SO it was Danilo, Chandler, Mozgov, a 1st in 3 years and 2 2nds for Carmelo and a couple of bums with expiring contracts.

SHIT YEAH.

Chandler is a good play. Melo is great. Chandler is going to get paid WAY too much this offseason. He is going to get like 12 million a year to be Shawn Marion Lite. And Danilo is never going to be anything more than a outside scorer, and can be replaced.

Knicks made a great deal, and definitely didnt "give too much up"

Billups deal also has an opt out next season, so they can go into Free Agency in a few months with the ability to throw big money at another player.

Even though I think they probably could have given a little less if they negotiated some the only one they really lose out on for the future is Gallinari. He definitely took some steps forward this year, but still will never be close to Melo. Chandler wouldn't have been signed for the price he's gonna get after the season. Felton was always a a short term fix seeing as his contract ends the same time as Billups.

It would have been nice to keep Mozgov, just for the fact that hes a big that this team desperately needed. But he obviously wasn't gonna hold back a deal.

Utah won in that trade by a lot. They got rid of a player who was upset while getting a lot in return.

Nets got a good player but the team isn't good enough for a playoff run next year unless the Nets do more with the roster.

ESPN is reporting that the Knicks ticket prices have risen a good 45-50% in cost with his first game being 90-95% more expensive than normally. The club itself didn't set the prices but that is the asking prices on stubhub and other ticket trading places.

 Knicks could end up sabotaging their whole rebirth effort depending on if Dolan brings back Isiah Thomas as the man in charge instead of Donnie Walsh.

Supposedly Walsh is pissed off Thomas is taking some credit for the move of getting Melo and might not get the full power needed to complete the Big 3 that he wants and have them play the way he feels is the best.

Its strong enough that he is considering leaving after the season but money might convince him to stay at a lower role or gets a big raise and keeps his power/role.

The new CBA might be tough enough to prevent the Knicks from spending to get Chris Paul since it could close the loophole that lets you spend over the cap as long as you pay the luxury tax (last i heard its $1 for every dollar over the upper cap limit). Or if they get Paul, almost no chance at depth in defense due to lack of cap space.

02-23-2011, 06:39 PM
As a Knick fan I don't even really want the big three and don't see how its possible. Melo and Amare alone next year will be making 40M between them, the big three in Miami are making something like $48M between them for a while since they were all free agents at the same time. Paul or Williams or whoever would have to take a pretty huge paycut to come here and I just don't really see that happening.

I'd rather split the remaining money up between a couple solid players to round out this team than get another superstar. This isn't til Billups is gone anyway though.

Carmelo was definitely pressing at the start, but hit the big shots they needed at the end.

Definitely not the prettiest game, but wasn't expecting it to be. Excited to see what the team can do after actually practicing and playing some games together.

The team will desperately need a center or some big body to get some time from Turiaf. I knew D'Antoni wasn't gonna get any new people into the rotation this game but he definitely has to eventually. Shawne Williams should never be playing center.

Trade Deadline deals:

Grizzles failed in trading away OJ Mayo to the Pacers due to not getting it completed in time but NBA could still pass the deal.

Celtics trade Perkins and Nate Robinson to Thunder for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic. Going to miss Perkins but it made sense once he re-hurt himself. Another reason is due to Marquis Daniel potentially being out for rest of season.

Portland gets Gerald Wallace. Cleveland wanted him but the deal fell and Portland stepped in.

Thunder trades Morris Peterson and D.J. White to the Bobcats while getting Nazr Mohammed.

Clippers trade Baron Davis and 2011 1st round pick to the Cavs for o Williams and Jamario Moon.

Mark Cuban furious on a trade involving the Hornets and Kings which involved the Hornets gaining a player who makes 4x more than the players traded away (NBA owners pay the Hornets team salary). Kings got shafted by loosing a good scorer in return to 2 players that don't add up to what they lost in stats for the swap. The deal was Kings trade Carl Landry to New Orleans for Marcus Thornton.

UPDATE: Danny Ainge just killed off the bench the Celtics had and their "bigs" depth with trades of Semih Erden and Luke Harangody to Cleveland for draft picks. Makes no sense since those players are rookies and does nothing to fix the depth problems.

Celtics also trade away Marquis Daniels to the Kings for cash and draft picks. Daniels might be out for the season but this trade and the previous trades means that Shaq now is the full-time center for the team (Glen Davis is more of a 6th man starter for value).

Mike Bibby rumored to join the Miami Heat after voiding his contract with the Wizards who traded for him last week (sent Kirk Hinrich to the Hawks). Wizards get the instant benefit of having $6.2 million off the books and at least $20 million in cap room for next year.

Also rumored is Troy Murphy going to the Heat and the Heat potentially cutting Carlos Arroyo and Jamaal Magloire to make space in both the cap and roster.

Carlos Arroyo may be a fellow Puerto Rican, but he sucks as a person. He may play "ok", but ever since he joined the NBA, everytime he goes down to Puerto Rico in the offseason, he acts like a big star and whenever he plays with the Puerto Rican National Team, he causes trouble. This past summer, he smacked a member of the Mexican Team, just because...

...I'm all for seeing him get cut. Bring in Bibby.

Speaking of the Heat, I wonder what's the over/under that we'll see Pat Riley take over before the playoffs start.

Devon Williams met with Nets owner and if the owner can get Dwight Howard, Williams will agrees to stay for the long term.

It also makes it a bit tougher for the Magic to keep him since now his value raises more than the rumored trade or leaving to the Lakers in the near future.

Troy Murphy also nixed the idea of going to Miami and picked the Celtics after accepting his buyout with the Warriors.

16-1 since All-Star, tied for second overall seed and only 2.5 games behind the Spurs for the overall 1 seed.

All is well in Lakerland.
