The Braves haven't had leads to blow. Their offense blows though. So much good pitching wasted.

Jays are really knocking around King Felix. 11 hits and 5 runs through 6. Seattle's offence is abysmal.

Gertner

haha Corey Patterson just hit a 2 run homer off Felix. 7-0 Jays in the top of the 6th.

I don't know how the Mariners pulled off the magic act and still won 8-7.

John Farrell's handling of the bullpen thus far has been awful. David Purcey should never see the light of day again. He has no control at all. Fuck was that ever frustrating. 7 runs off Felix and they lose.

Isn't that always the case with the Braves?

<font color=goldenrod>The Mets' pen has been horrific so far. Hope they sort their shit soon cause it seems like they can never get the entire team clicking. One phase of the team will always shit the bed on a given night. If they can hit, they can't pitch. If they can pitch, they won't hit.</font>

Isn't that always the case with the Braves?

I wouldn't say always, no. The Braves offense sucked last year mainly because of injuries down the stretch. The offense this year doesn't have much of an excuse. I would say the main concern for the Braves over the past decade has been speed. Ever since we lost Furcal, no one has been pesky at the top of the lineup. Prado is a great at getting on, but he would do so much better in the two hole.

Fredi shouldn't be batting Heyward 6th and McLouth 2nd. I understand wanting to keep the top of the lineup "fast", but it really isn't working out. The offense will pick up though.

<font color=goldenrod>Somebody called into WFAN and predicted that Reyes would eventually be traded to the Reds for Homer Bailey and Zack Cozart. Though I DO think he'll be dealt if they fall out of it, seems like he was a typical alarmist Mets fan to say that 10 games into the year.

Supreme, is Cozart good? Sounds like he's meant to be a power shortstop but I'm not sure what his big league projections are. I know Bailey's still mad young but he seems to be a total failed prospect.</font>

I know it's early, but the Padres' offense is killing me right now. Latos threw two bad pitches all night. Outside of a good first inning start, Volquez shut them the fuck down. I saw Headley's OBP was ridiculously high going into last night. I'd say they need to put him in the 3 hole. Hudson is the only one in the top 3 getting on base. You can't expect the middle of the order to drive guys in when your leadoff hitter is hitting .179 and getting on base 25% of the time, you're going to have trouble scoring runs. I do not like Venable leading off, damnit.

In a good note, Mat Latos looked sharp last night, sans a rough 5th inning. 7 k's in your first outing against that Reds lineup is nothing to be ashamed of.

Here's Cozart's numbers on baseball-reference.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=cozart001zac

And an article on some Reds prospect site I found via google...

http://redlegsbaseball.blogspot.com/2008/12/2009-top-prospect-list-20-zach-cozart.html

I don't know much about him outside of the numbers any amatuer analyst can find, but he's already in his 20s, and he's still in AAA. While I'm sure you could find a reason for that, I can;t imagine why he wouldn't be given a shot over Yanish and Renteria at this point. I wonder how much faith they have in him.

I think if Alderson trades Reyes, it will be a blockbuster type move, where he rakes in at least 2 to 3 prospects who can fill in some holes.

Good to great defender, average hitter. Think he can be a regular in the majors but probably as a #7 or 8 hitter.

Bailey is definitely not a bust. He's got fantastic stuff and has put together strings of absolute dominance in the majors. He just needs to get more seasoning and understand how to throw in every situation.

I would be ok with this trade btw.

Because Janish's defense is so good, if he only hits .260 for the season he's still incredibly valuable.

Renteria is the veteran presence which obviously has value too.

So, the Cubs signed Doug Davis to a minor league deal today. Given the injury problems (Cashner and Wells both out) and recent suckage (James Russell 4 ER is 1 2/3 IP today), he is pretty much bound to be in the Cubs rotation sooner or later.

And I for one cant wait for him to throw BP to teams in Wrigley Field.

The Padres got absolutely hammered by the Reds in extras yesterday. They come back late to tie it, and blow consequtive chances to put the game away in the 8th, 9th and 10th before imploding in the 11th, surrendering 6 runs, including a bomb from Drew Stubbs that hasn't landed yet. Doesn't help the team was a whopping 1 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

I keep telling myself it's early, but watching this team's lineup get carved through left and right without anyone coming up clutch is downright appalling.

<font color=goldenrod>Nice, glad to hear the numbers are just deceiving. Hard to believe the guy's only 24 since I've heard about him for years. Cozart's 25 so he'd probably get hotshotted to the bigs if Reyes got moved.

The thought of trading Reyes still makes me sad :( I know it'll be for the best if the Mets fall out of it since there's little chance they re-sign him, but damn I love that guy. Been one of my favorites ever since his debut way back in 2003.</font>

Delgado's best year came in a Blue Jays uniform. It's not even debatable. That guy was an absolute beast. Gert, doesn't he own the longest homerun at Rogers? I remember seeing highlights of him absolutely murdering balls out there.

On a winning note, Padres came back to beat the Reds 3 to 2 today. Reds lineup worked Tim Stauffer for 4.1 innings on 99 pitches. That's insane. Orlando Hudson clutched up again and lined a single into left to salvage a win.

Padres are going on a road trip where they'll see hitter friendly Minute Maid Park and Wrigley Field. Hopefully the offense gets going and builds some momentum.

Padres down 1-0 to the 'Stros. Hoe the fuck they couldn't touch Bud Norris and his sorry 8 point something ERA for ONE LOUSY RUN is immense. Norris didn't allow a hit after the 1st inning.

Great job, Padres. Take a 1-0 loss on the road against a team that, I believed, was giving up an average of 6 runs per game. Moseley can't catch a fucking break.

Keep telling myself it's early, but they worked Bud Norris' sorry as for a shit ton of pitches, and they couldn't push one run across. Not one. Off of a medicore at best pitcher.

I'm not expecting this team to pull 90 wins out of their ass like they did last year, but if they are going to play .500 ball, they HAVE to beat shit teams like the Astros. What a fucking downer, Padres.

I fucking am. I picked the Padres to win the world series. Lol

 Why on earth would you do that? My friend was clamoring about how good they were last year, and, even without Gonzalez, the lineup looks a little more balanced. That's all fine and dandy, and, when they actually decide to show up to the ball park with their bats, might end up being true, last year was a pretty big fluke.

With that said, I am praying they split the series with the 'Stros. They need to just make some fucking contact and hope for good things to happen. My varsity coach always preached that, when you're slumping mercilessly, just focus on making contact, and good things will start to come.

Interesting. I wonder how Colon is going to fair. As a long/mop up reliever, he's serviceable. I have concerns for his stamina, and most importantly, his stuff. It will take about a year for Crawford to figure out how to play balls off the Green Monster defensive-wise like how Manny became an expert at placement and predicting where the balls would hit and land.

He's struggling hitting wise but the bigger problem is half the lineup is struggling (bottom half barely is over .200 for most hitters) while the bullpen is wasting the slow improvement of the starters.

<font color=goldenrod>Down 3-0 with no outs, Daniel Murphy (not a fast runner) is thrown out trying to steal 3rd. What the fuck.

The dumbfuck baserunning mistakes are back. The terrible fielding is back. The inability to throw strikes is back. The uncertainty of injuries and failure to communicate them is back (Chris Young randomly gets his start pushed back by 2 days for a minor injury. Every Mets fan in the world says "watch he'll be on the DL soon". Well whaddya know, he's DL'ed within 24 hours).

Just awful. They are playing like a 100 loss team. And with the Wilpons at the helm ready to make rash decisions to appease the fan base now instead of allowing for a badly-needed rebuild, the worst is yet to come.</font>

Damian Rey

Damian Rey

Also, Latos decided to unravel in the 7tth, giving up some walks after punching out Brett Wallace to start the inning. Game was tied at 3-3 to start the 7th, and the 'Stros put up two more in that same inning to take the lead and put the game away.

Chase Headley hit a hanging curve ball 430 plus feet to center, for a stand up, 2 run double.

I could get all riled up about this loss, but at least they're starting to score, squaring up on pitches, and getting some hits. The game could have looked completely different had Hunter Pence's goody self not made a spectacular catch to start the 9th. He robbed Nick Hundley of a for sure leadoff double, possibly a triple. Back to bakc hits ensued, which would have meant at least a 5-4 game with two on and no one out.

So yea, positives are, they are putting the bat on the ball and creating scoring chances. Just a matter of putting it all together. If the Padres score 4 runs a game, I guarentee you they will win no less than 60% of the time. Pitching staff is far too good to lose games with that sort of run support.

PHILADELPHIA -- PhillieBot, the one-armed, three-wheeled robot, designed by engineers at the University of Pennsylvania, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Wednesday's game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers.

The spectacle is part of Science Day festivities at Citizens Bank Park, said Evan Lerner, a spokesman for Penn's engineering school.

The pitching robot has been in the makings for a month and a half as Penn engineers Jordan Brindza and Jamie Gewirtz assembled parts and wrote software in their spare time, Lerner said.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6389703

The robot can be programmed to pitch like a MLB pitcher in both speeds and types of pitches but the Phillies made sure he only threw 30 mph or else people would want to do trades or put it in the Phillies rotation.

Futurama also said this is how the Robot Leagues started for baseball and then Blernsball.

Just came over the wire the MLB is taking over operations for the Dodgers. The McCourts can't coexist with each other and the team is strapped for cash. Frank McCourt took a $30 mil. loan from Fox to keep the team afloat.

MLB set to take over daily operation and activities of the LA Dodgers after the current owners are currently in a financial mess due to the divorce.

Unlike the time the MLB took over the Expos, MLB is only taking over the day-to-day activities of the team and won't be spending their own money for potential trades or signings. When they owned the Expos, the MLB had to fight off owners complaining MLB was spending their money on another team and MLB didn't want to give the Expos special status.

<font color=goldenrod>I need to have my head examined for actually going to tonight's Mets game, especially since I've been sick as hell lately.

Was actually a fun game. But between Pagan getting thrown out at the plate and Thole popping up a crucial bunt on the first pitch causing a double play in the 9th, it really feels like they are inventing new ways to lose. Thole popped up a bunt. Dickey popped up a bunt. Willie Harris failed to bunt so he gave up and promptly struck out. 3 fucked up attempts at bunting in one game may be some kind of record. Last Thursday to tonight may legitimately have been the worst week of baseball ever played by a team.

They have found a way to lock up 100 losses in April. I'll always watch the games but at least with the 2009 Mets I didn't become basically apathetic about the results until like July. This year I'll be feeling that way on April 21st.</font>

Dodgers owner wants to sue MLB for what he calls a "hostile takeover" of his team and to add to the , the guy MLB promoted to help take charge of the Dodgers after 2 days decided to side with the owner.

MLB got upset when it learned McCourt tried to take a $200 million loan from Fox out of the next tv contract and when that failed asked for $30 million to cover team costs.

Also revealed was the owner's family managed to spend $50 million in a few years on just themselves with loaned team money and another $20 million each year in "rent" from the team. Altogether the McCourts hid $145 million from MLB and the IRS due to not paying taxes.

This reminds me (and this is the ONLY similarity between the two) of Barry Bonds after his 73 season. His homer and rbi totals the next 3 years were 46 and 110, 45 and 90, and 45 and 101. There was just no reason to pitch to him when someone was on base.

In 2003, 35 of his 45 homers were solo.

Although Bautista's current pace for 54 homers and 77 rbi destroys those numbers.

Too bad the Cubs traded him to get Garza.

I expect Dempster to be on the 15 day dl or something. Not because he's injured, but because he s been so bad that at this point, you have to make up a reason for his horribleness

2011 All Star Ballot (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2011/ballot.jsp?tcid=news-asgballot-2011)

tad early..

Only Orioles player I can see making it is Zach Britton as long as he keeps up being awesome, and thats even a stretch. If not him it'll probably be Brian Roberts.

That was the strangest two runs that the Jays scored in the 9th that I've ever seen lol.

Rivera hit a ground ball to Beltre who made an error, and the run scored, which left Rivera on first, Bautista on second and Patterson on Third. Beltre then lobbed the ball to the pitcher Oliver and all of a sudden Bautista breaks for third, stops halfway when he realizes Patterson is standing on third and halfway down starts running back to second. Oliver tries to throw him out at second and end sup throwing the ball out to center field and Patterson scores.

I wouldnt be surprised if Ozzie Guillen gets the boot shortly.

I'm surprised Ozzie Guillen has had such a long leash in Chicago.

Yeah, he helped take them back to the World Series and win the whole thing in 2005, but his act has gotten old, and the team hasn't exactly performed that great, to compensate for keeping him.

Vlad Guerrerro has 110 ABs without a walk so far, the record since 1900 is 148.

The way he swings at everything, short of him getting plunked or intentionally walked I could see him go the whole year without one.
