lol 1-0
bet that was exciting
would have been funny if the Twins didnt score a run.
Please don't let Ryan Dempster come out in the sixth. We have a shot to win this game. He's leading off the next inning. Perfect time to pinch hit for him and not let him meltdown in the sixth like he always does

Carlos Pena doesn't do much hitting, but when he does, it's usually a Homer...and he looks damn good doing it.
Holy shit! Carlos Pena is on the team? Who knew...
Quade is begging Dempster to give up a home run right now

Quade's mancrush with Dempster is amazing. I noticed Zambrano is pitching tomorrow, so I guess Dempster's the Ace of the staff.
He's the deuce of the staff. As in dropping a deuce.

Giants interested in making a deal with the Mets for Jose Reyes due to the team struggling with injuries and had to move their starting shortstop to 3B for the time being.

NEW YORK -- Major League Baseball believes the Los Angeles Dodgers do not have enough money to make their end of May payroll, a person familiar with the team's finances told The Associated Press.
The person spoke Wednesday on condition of anonymity because MLB's investigation of the team's finances under owner Frank McCourt is ongoing. The Los Angeles Times first reported that the Dodgers lacked the cash to make their May 31 payroll.
The person said that if the Dodgers don't have the money, MLB would step in and make payroll.
"The fact that we had obligations coming due in 2011 was no surprise to us and no surprise to Major League Baseball," Dodgers owner Frank McCourt said in a statement to the AP.
McCourt has publicly complained baseball commissioner Bud Selig has refused to approve a 17-year contract with Fox that could be worth more than US$3 billion, a deal that would include a front-loaded payment of about $300 million.
"We developed a plan which eventually became the Fox transaction. We've been working on that plan, in different versions, for the last six months," McCourt said. "That is a transaction that is now completely negotiated, ready to be signed, and ready to be closed. It's the series of delays in allowing us to close this transaction that has created the problem here. Otherwise, there would be no problem here. My recent investment into the club was necessitated by the delay."
The commissioner's office effectively took control of the team on April 20, and former Texas Rangers president Tom Schieffer was appointed the team's monitor six days later by Selig. Schieffer must approve any transaction over $5,000.
Based on its opening-day payroll of $103.8 million, the Dodgers' payroll for its major league roster in the second half of May will be approximately $8.25 million. The figure includes 16 days salary, but not any signing bonus payments that happen to fall due.
McCourt, involved in a contentious divorce, took a $30 million loan from Fox, the team's television partner, in the weeks leading up to Selig's decision to appoint a monitor. Baseball was concerned that McCourt was removing assets from the franchise, once considered one of the premier teams in the sport.

It probably will depend on if Reyes will consider a new deal with the Giants (currently on last year of the deal) and the financial situation for the Mets (will be cutting team payroll by a lot).
If Reyes decides to stay with the Giants longer than the season or at least gives it as an option, the Mets could easily pick up a few quality prospects and cash. I doubt the Giants give up anyone on the main roster due to depth and injury problems the team has right now.
Lol this red sox vs angels game is still on.

That would be on the same level of trying to do a bunt on purpose during a no hitter or perfect game late in the game.
On one hand, it is a good and normal part of game strategy but would also be seen as sort of a "dick" move to pull off by the other team.

I'd rather they bring up Jorge Vazquez for now. He has something like 14 HRs in AAA right now. He should have been brought up instead of Ramiro Pena before to take over the Chavez role - part time DH and sub in for 3rd and 1st.
If they bring up Montero they better make sure that they want Posada basically being on the bench on most days. I don't think they'd bring him up to sit on the bench. If they can get Montero days at DH and a couple games behind the plate a week I'd be all for it. But with the Yankees love for Cervelli I can't see that happening.

'Pirates Lose' Beer Special Brings Heat From Team Employees
Stroll Inn Ends Bar Promotion After Bucco Baseball Workers Complain
KENNEDY TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Two employees of the Pittsburgh Pirates called for a boycott of a Kennedy Township bar that offered to cut the price of beer every time the Pirates lost.
"I've never heard of anything so ridiculous," said Estelle Aversa, who owns the Stroll Inn.
A sign in front of the bar on Fairhaven Road said, "If the Pirates lose, you win." The promotion called for a discount of a nickel off a pitcher of beer after every loss by the Pirates, who haven't had a winning season since 1992.
An email sent on May 12 by Pirates account executive Angela Criscella said, "An occasional joke and jab is expected here and there, but to create business by ripping on the home team is ridiculous and in my opinion distasteful." She urged bar patrons to "take your business away from the Stroll Inn and to other local restaurants instead."
"I was sick to my stomach that the Pirate organization would condone that kind of behavior," said Aversa. She told Team 4 investigative reporter Paul Van Osdol that she removed the sign after learning of the boycott campaign.
The bar is full of memorabilia of Pittsburgh's major sports teams, including the Pirates.
"I've always been a supporter of sports teams, and to have my reputation put out there in a chain email is hurtful," Aversa said.
After Aversa contacted the Pirates and expressed concern about the boycott campaign, Criscella sent a follow-up email saying that she misunderstood the intent of the promotional campaign.
"It was conveyed to us that it was supposed to be more of a 'Don't feel bad the Pirates lost, have a discounted drink,' but obviously was not the message that many people were getting from that," Criscella said.
Pirates spokesman Brian Warecki said the team was unaware the employees were urging a boycott, but he said they are "free to share with their friends their feelings about an establishment that would root against its home team."
Aversa said that was never her intent.
"It was a consolation -- like, hey, you may be sad about the Pirates losing, but we're going to give you a discount," she said.
"They were just having fun, trying to bring in more people, actually, to come and watch the games," bar customer James Fagan said.
Another customer, Nate Hoffmeister, said he can't understand why Pirates employees would attack a neighborhood tavern.
"They got enough problems of their own right now," he said.
Going into Monday night's game against Washington, the Pirates had a record of 18-22 and were in fourth place in the standings of the National League's Central Division.
UPDATE: Early Monday evening, Aversa told Team 4 that Pirates President Frank Coonelly called her and said he supports his employees' actions.
Because of the uproar, the bar dropped its plans for the beer promotion.
"Win or lose, you love your home team, and I didn't want to come out looking like this bad person who disrespected the team," Aversa said.
On Tuesday, the Pirates told Team 4 that Coonelly was not available for an interview.
The local Yuengling distributor has not returned a phone call for comment. A spokesman for Yuengling said the company had nothing to do with the promotion at the bar.
Pirates spokesman Brian Warecki's email to Team 4:
The bar owner Estelle Aversa asked through our customer service email that someone contact her to explain our position on the issue. As the President of the club, Frank wanted to reach out directly to her to make clear to her that the Pirates were in no way, shape or form behind any boycott of her establishment. He explained that your media inquiry was the first the organization heard of the promotional idea or that two of our employees sent personal emails to their friends and family on the topic. While the use of a company email account was regrettable in this case, he also discussed the fact that our employees, like everyone else, are free to decide the establishments to which they wish to give their business and free to share those feelings with their personal contacts.
Again, the most important thing to make clear is that Pirates organization was in no way, shape or form actively behind or supporting the email push to boycott the establishment.
Yuengling is a valued partner with the Pirates and we are well aware that they were not behind the idea of the promotion that would be perceived by some as rooting against the home town team.
I think it is important to also point out that the employees involved were reminded of our policy that the use of company email for personal matters such as this is against company policy. That is in place for situations like this when the actions of an employee can be misrepresented as representing the Pirates organization as whole.
On the Mark Madden radio show this afternoon, they interviewed Ms. Aversa and her response was that Mr. Coonelly's response on the phone was VERY different than what the "official response" indicated. She said that Mr. Coonelly was very derogatory toward her, and that he did not see anything wrong with what his employee did, even though she was using her corporate account to send out the emails.

Or maybe this just makes for a very interesting trade dead line as well. I mean really think about the trade deadline is sometime in June. And we are still in second place. We are not out of it yet. So that is why I think the Yankees have some sort of plan. Maybe a Montero package for some pitcher. We do have Romine and a very good hitting catcher by the name of Gary Sanchez in the minors. And all though I really don't wanna lose Montero if it can get us a decent Pitcher I'd do it.
I'm more afraid of losing Buenelos in a trade because you know every team and their mother will be asking for him.:(

I wouldn't trade Montero for a 3 month rental. Posada may be on his way out, and Montero's bat is going to play, especially in that ball park. Unless they're getting someone like Jose Reyes form the Mets (who don't have a position for Montero with Ike Davis manning 1st base), I don't see it happening.
Sanchez might be a guy the ship out. He's only 18, and is probably a ways off considering his age and the fact that he's in Single A. I think a package of him, Romine, and maybe a lesser prospect, would be more than enough to net a nice piece. The only question that I'd have is; is there really anybody out there that would be on the trade block worth two top 100 minor leaguers and is that person a long term solution or a 3 month rental?

Not that I can think of. I am trying to think rationally here. Hmmm..... Buerhle will most likely be available. And maybe Liriano. He is doing pretty bad but I am willing to make a wager on Francisco. But in my honest opinion he is not worth 2 top 100 guys maybe 3 depending on who this lesser prospect is. And besides the Twins probably don't need 2 more catchers with Mauer of course. There are a lot of Pitchers I'd like to have for that but like I said I am trying to think rationally not have a fantasy draft. Liriano might have his problems but we might be able to fix him if available.

Well, the Twins have to start making some bold decisions concerning Mauer coming up, here. His injuries are killing the team right now, and wit catcher being such a physically demanding/draining position, I can see them either rotating Mauer and Morneau at DH/1st base.
Mauer's contract isn't going anywhere, so they need to do something to get the most out of him. Being the everyday catcher at this point should not be an option.

I wonder how serious the M's would be in moving Felix. He and Pineda fomr a pretty dominating duo at the top of the rotation. With Smoak getting a full year in this year, and Dustin Ackley getting closer, the M's could be in contention sooner rather than later.

The Padres being at home is such a bummer. They tore shit up on the road, and now they have to come back to that dead zone of a ballpark, and be made to look useless again. Very frustrating.
In other news, former top prospect Kyle Blanks is making progress after having season ending TJ surgery, and Assist. GM of scouting and development Jason McLeod indicated that Blanks is building up arm strength for a possible return to LF.
I doubt anyone knows anything about the Padres right now, but Blanks was their top dog prospect (rated the 50th best minor league prospect in 2009) and was/is a 1st baseman by trait, but was moved to LF to get his RH'd bat in the lineup with Gonzalez. He has LEGIT light tower power, and that's something the organization is in serious need of at all levels. With Rizzo looking like THE MAN at first base after the Gonzalez deal, getting Blanks in the same lineup in LF is a smart move.
And hopefully the Padres give me something better to contribute after tonight...

You can never have enough pitching, which is something that the Yankees have showcased lasy year with Burnett's issues and Hughes' this season.
Not to mention, calling up Montero and expecting him to help turn it around is asking a lot from a kid who hasn't seen one big league at bat and is going to have to really learn to adjust in a very pitching strong division.

I don't expect that. Our hitting isn't bad. I mean there are times that we get 9 or 10 runs and then the next day we have trouble scoring 2 or 3. I don't expect Montero to be a savior cause our hitting doesn't really need to be saved persey. We just need to get it more consistant. And having a young guy may just add a spark to some of the old fogies. I am not expecting Montero to come up and save us. I'm expecting him to come up and maybe hit average and that in turn may be the spark the Yankees need. We just need to be more consistent.

New York Mets principal owner Fred Wilpon takes pointed shots at some of his marquee players in an extensive article in The New Yorker mostly designed to highlight his rags-to-riches tale.
The embattled owner, who became ensnared in Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme and is now being sued for more than $1 billion by the trustee trying to recover funds for Madoff victims, tells the magazine:
“
He thinks he's going to get Carl Crawford money. He's had everything wrong with him. He won't get it.
”
-- Mets owner Fred Wilpon,
on shortstop Jose Reyes
• Shortstop Jose Reyes will not be getting a super-huge contract from the Mets. "He thinks he's going to get Carl Crawford money," Wilpon said, referring to Crawford's seven-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox. "He's had everything wrong with him. He won't get it."
• On right fielder Carlos Beltran, Wilpon mentions Beltran's huge postseason with the Houston Astros in 2004 and says, referring to himself: "We had some schmuck in New York who paid him based on that one series. He's 65 to 70 percent of what he was."
• About David Wright: "Really good kid. A very good player. Not a superstar."
• On whether the franchise might be snakebit, Wilpon makes another pointed Beltran reference. Author Jeffrey Toobin writes: "At one point, I mentioned to Wilpon the theory that the Mets might be cursed. He gave a sort of half laugh, and said, 'You mean' -- and then pantomimed a checked swing of the bat. Any Mets fan (I am one) would understand the reference. The Mets took the 2006 National League Championship Series to a seventh game against the Cardinals."
In the game Wilpon refers to, Beltran took a called third strike from Adam Wainwright to end it.
Wilpon apparently does like first baseman Ike Davis.
"Good hitter," Wilpon says of Davis. "S----- team. Good hitter. ... We're snakebitten, baby."

Madoff then offers Wilpon endorsements in the article, trying to absolve the Mets ownership family of knowledge of the Ponzi scheme.
The disgraced Madoff wrote Toobin in an email: "Fred was not [at] all stock market savvy and [brother-in-law] Saul [Katz] was not really either. They were strictly Real Estate people. Although I explained the Strategy to them they were not sophisticated enough to evaluate it properly, nor were most of my other individual clients. They were not in a position to perform the necessary due diligence and did not have access to necessary financial info or records."
In a separate phone interview with Toobin, Madoff says: "He must feel that I betrayed him, as do most of my friends who were involved. Hopefully, they will understand the pressures I was under. I made money for them legitimately to start, but then I got trapped and was not able to work my way out of it. It just became impossible for me to extricate myself, or even try and extricate myself."

The Braves injuries are already getting worse than they were in the playoffs last year. No Heyward, McLouth, Beachy, Moylan, and Chipper off and on. Our outfield will be seeing ludicrious amounts of Joe Mather, Eric Hinske, Wilken Ramirez, and Jordan Schafer. Awful.
And Uggla's WAR was sitting at a zero, last I checked.

They're all pretty close, numbers wise, but Bautista's OBP (.492!!!!!!!!!!) and 4.2 WAR is damn impressive. As much as I love Gonzalez, if Bautista continues his tear, I'd feel he'd have been robbed if he's not given the MVP by year's end.

The Os can get back to .500 tomorrow after their 9-2 win tonight..pretty decent game. Was surprised that the Royals left in their SP Hochevar after he gave up 8 runs in the 4th and he managed to go 8 innings pretty much shutting the Os down in all the other innings. The Os didnt win their 23rd game last year until almost the end of June and they're still only 3.5 gb of the Yankees.

Mets prepared to sell at least the minority stake in the team next month worth about $200 million but no extra bonuses. Mets owner wants to use the influx of money to help pay off some debts and other financial issues.
Einhorn will not be willing to sell his stake back to the Wilpons once they settle their money problems but also won't challenge them to get full control for at least a few more years.
NEW YORK -- The cash-strapped owners of the New York Mets have agreed to sell a minority share of the team to hedge fund manager David Einhorn for $200 million.
The move, announced Thursday, would allow owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon and Saul Katz to retain control of the team. The influx of money would help pay debts and cover operating expenses.
A definitive agreement is expected by late June, according to the team.
The sale will be for less than 49 percent of the team and will not include a stake in SNY, the television network owned by the Mets, sources close to the deal tell ESPN's Karl Ravech.
Fred Wilpon told Sports Illustrated this week the team is "bleeding cash" and could lose up to $70 million this year. He also told the magazine the club might slash payroll next year. The Mets received a loan from Major League Baseball in November to help cover expenses.

David Einhorn is brilliant. The deal is $200 million for 33% of the team. However - in three years time he can either become the principal owner of the team at 60%, or the Wilpons must return his $200 million investment while letting him keep the 33%.
So either he becomes the majority owner or he gets to own a third of the team for free. Fantastic deal.

Hawk Harrelson is an ass.

Hawk Harrelson: Jose Bautista Has a Little Cork in his Bat?
The White Sox broadcasters were the latest media members to be treated to the Jose Bautista show. The Toronto slugger went 5-for-10 with a home run and three RBIs in the first three games of the Blue Jays-White Sox series this weekend, leaving Chicago’s TV team impressed. In fact, Bautista impressed the team of Hawk Harrelson and Steve Stone so much, it left Harrelson saying “If you didn’t know better, you’d say [his bat] had a little cork in it.”
I know Hawk qualified his statement by saying “If you didn’t know any better,” but he’s still throwing it out there that Bautista is hitting the ball harder than everyone else, and he’s suggesting something may be up. Many people have suspected Bautista of using PEDs, and given the amount of successful major leaguers who have been busted over time, that wouldn’t totally be unfair.
The point is people have been looking to explain Jose Bautista’s evolution into the best hitter in the game. Last year I thought he was a fluke, but now I believe that he’s morphed into a slugger. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out he were using some substances.
Now Hawk’s throwing it out there that if you didn’t know any better, you’d say he’s corking his bat. Well Hawk, if you know better, then why did you suggest it? That to me sounds like someone so impressed you don’t believe what you’re seeing, and that you don’t think it’s natural. You might as well say he’s getting injections in the tunnel to the clubhouse between innings. If you don’t think he’s doing it, then don’t throw it out there.

Are red colored teams rockin' the same thing or they got something to go with their uniforms?
Edit: Just checked the MLB shop and Angels, Red Sox, etc. are going Red & White. Kinda strange the Rockies and Pirates are going red this year.

Pirates were blue for the past few years, but were red before that, so it's not THAT out there for them. I'd personally like to see one year when they're at home them rock a white hat with a red or blue P. The white hat wouldn't work as well with the grey "away" unis.
