WWE NXT GRADUATING TO ITS OWN TAPINGS, MOVING TO FLORIDA
By Mike Johnson on 2012-05-11 12:46:57

WWE NXT will be graduating to its own tapings, combined with WWE developmental Florida Championship Wrestling starting on Thursday 5/17 at 7 PM.
The tapings will be held at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL (near Orlando) at the Full Sail Live gym. Tickets for the tapings will be free to FSU staff and students with ID as long as they reserve the tickets in advance. No word yet as to how the general public can attend.

I am told one of the reasons the tapings, which will be branded as "WWE Superstar Showdown", are being moved are to make it easier to integrate WWE developmental talent into the mix for NXT. The hope is that the University feel will give the show a chance for better crowd reactions as well as help upgrade FCW TV to a "grander" look than the FCW Arena in Tampa can provide. The plan is to upgrade NXT and give it more attention as opposed to it being a secondary show on the Smackdown tapings.

HHH is behind the moves and will be very involved with the tapings. He was said to be a big fan of the facility when he and other company executives, including Kevin Dunn and Stephanie McMahon scouted last year.

This past December, WWE filmed several potential pilots at the facility and signed an exclusivity deal with the University to prevent any other wrestling-related events from being held there. Full Sail is an entertainment media university with state of the art production facilities.

Triple H is advertised for the initial taping, which will also feature Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio and R-Truth & Kofi Kingston vs. Epico & Primo.

Currently scheduled tapings:

May 17, 2012
June 14, 2012
July 5, 2012
July 19, 2012
August 9, 2012
August 23, 2012
September 6, 2012
September 20, 2012

This is huge for NXT! A university and its hopefully enthusiastic crowd may be just what it needed to establish itself as a 3rd brand. Triple H's support is not something to laugh at either. What are your thoughts?

Glad that the commentary team seems like it's going to be Jim Ross and William Regal. Although he is new, Regal is already a pretty great commentator that will blend/clash well with JR. I see them quickly becoming my favourite duo in the entire WWE.

As a graduate from Full Sail University, I have to say that this is an amazing move for both parties. I would give anything to go back and be in school while WWE NXT was being produced on campus - probably would've tried to nudge my way onto the production team somehow.

Holy fuck, I cannot wait. Best commentary team and GM in the business and a bunch of people I've never heard of as well as some good main events.

I'm assuming those spoilers are just the matches or the backstage stuff wasnt shown to the crowd though, otherwise the GM role is a little pointless.

<font color=goldenrod>I wasn't sure if this was actually gonna be televised or shown on WWE.com or whatever, but the fact that they turned Bo Rotundo into Bo Dallas pretty much confirms that it is. Can't use their real name, after all.

Also interesting that they withheld Dean Ambrose. Guessing they're still being saved for one of the main shows.</font>

I'm on the fence. I like the thought of seeing all the new talent but I don't like the huge sudden shake-up like Regal getting replaced as GM and a lot of the "established" for lack of a better term, NXT guys and divas not being on any of these.

Also, I have the feeling they're gonna drop some things with no explanation? Like the Percy Watson attack angle and Hawkins and Ryder's feud with Regal and Striker.

Since the NXT regulars outside of Kidd & McGillycutter are nowhere to be seen I would assume that it's more or less going to be an upscaled FCW TV. The old format, angles, etc are all likely to be scrapped. Kind of loved all the silly angles and character development on NXT. It gave all these jobbers more depth and personality than 2/3rds of the main roster.

More detailed
Dark Match: Xavier Woods (formerly Consequences Creed in TNA) beat Dean Ambrose. Ambrose was very popular.

Triple H came out and cut a promo. Hunter thanked Full Sail for use of their facilities and said the first episode will air in more than 60 countries. (No date was given.)

Jim Ross and William Regal were introduced on commentary. JR introduced the new GM of NXT, Dusty Rhodes.

(1) Bo Dallas (Rotundo) beat Rick Victor with a spear.

(2) The Ascension (Connor O’Brian & Kenneth Cameron) beat C.J. Parker & Mike Dalton in a squash tag match. Ascension had an epic entrance and were impressive.

Damien Sandow refused to fight Jason Jordan. It was the same promo from his Smackdown appearances. Damien was over as a heel; funny stuff.

(3) Tyson Kidd beat Michael McGillicutty via submission. Great match that captivated the crowd and had plenty of nearfalls. Kidd won with a leg choke.

After a brief intermission, a video aired and they shot the crowd to lead into what can be assumed to be the second episode.

EPISODE #2 TAPING

(1) Seth Rollins (formerly Tyler Black) beat Jiro. This was essentially a squash. Rollins cut a promo promising to take NXT, WWE, and the world by storm.

(2) Jinder Mahal beat Jason Jordan via submission with the Camel Clutch. Boring match as indicated by the crowd chants.

(3) Leo Kruger beat Aiden English. Quick and effective establishing Aiden as a face and Kruger as a heel. Post-match, Leo talked about himself on the mic, calling himself the LEO (Lion) of NXT. So, watch out.

(4) Richie Steamboat beat Rick Victor with a big lariat. Richie wrestles a lot like his dad, Ricky Steamboat, who was ringside watching. Richie gave him a shout-out after the match.

(5) Antonio Cesaro beat Dante Dash. Afterward, Aksana declared, “Antonio is my lover!”

(6) Derrick Bateman beat Johnny Curtis. Comedy match with lots of running around.

End of episode. On to Superstar Showdown or the third NXT taping. It wasn’t clear.

EPISODE #3 AND #4 TAPINGS

Jim Ross remained on for this taping.

(1) WWE tag champion R-Truth beat Epico. Fun match. Truth won with the Little Jimmy.

(2) Sofia Cortez (Ivelise from Tough Enough) beat Paige.

(3) Seth Rollins beat Camacho (w/Hunico) after a standing foot stomp. Heels attacked Rollins post-match until Bo Davis made the save. Of note, Rollins did not use his FCW Hvt. Title at either taping.

(4) FCW tag champions Jake Carter & Corey Graves beat C.J. Parker & Nick Rogers. Again, the titles were not mentioned.

(5) Kassius Ohno (Chris Hero) beat Mike Dalton. Due to Hero’s long beard, a “Let’s Go Jesus” chant caught on loudly. Post-match, Ohno said he knocks people out and when people see him, they say, “Oh no!”

Leo Kruger came out again and the audience sighed. People were leaving at this point due to not knowing much of the talent. A whole section became spotty and empty. A “We Want Sheamus” chant broke out.

(6) Richie Steamboat beat Leo Kruger. The match ended abruptly after Richie hit a nasty gusher. Post-match, Kruger attacked Richie to good heat. Richie was carried out.

(7) Jinder Mahal beat Derrick Bateman via submission with the Camel Clutch. Jinder got really good shine tonight. He reapplied his finisher after the match until refs separated them.

Byron Saxton is off the booth and now Jack Russo and William Regal have joined Ross.

(8) Ascension beat The Usos. Wow, that’s an upset. It’s not clear how many episodes they’re up to now, but this is dragging badly, and not because of the wrestling.

(9) Bray Wyatt beat Aiden English. Husky Harris’s new act is fantastic.

(10) Hunico & Camacho & Michael McGillicutty beat Tyson Kidd & Seth Rollins & Bo Dallas in a six-man tag match. McG avenged his loss against Kidd from earlier in the taping.

(11) World Hvt. champion Sheamus beat Alberto Del Rio to retain the World Hvt. Title. Sheamus won with the Brogue Kick in a good house show-style title match.

That was the end of the taping. They announced they will return next month after taping a month’s worth of NXT in one night.

I reckon they'll pick and choose some matches. Gotta make room for that Raw Rebound after all and I'm assuming there will be some backstage stuff filmed separate, or the GM role is kinda pointless.

At least for markets where it's actually on TV anyway as the 1 hour will be unable to be extended there. They might do an NXT Uncut on wwe.com or something though.

Is Full Sail known for being a party campus?

I'd like to remind you all that Vince complained when WCW went to places like Fort Lauderdale and other party college campuses during the Monday Night Wars.

Far from it. My class of 100 had 5 girls in it. We had to go to UCF (University of Central Florida) or downtown Orlando to find anything even relatively like partying. We also had classes at 1AM sometimes, and when we weren't in class, we were making side projects on our own (everyone wants to be Martin Scorcese and what not). Lots of pot heads and drug addicts, but I wouldn't call it a "party school." It's really the perfect place for a company like WWE to set up shop. WWE gets free labor (it's mostly crewed by students who want "WWE NXT" on their resume) and Full Sail gets an even larger advertisement by opening up to the WWE audience.

And my friend worked the camera team again. FUCKING HATE HIM SO MUCH. He said Triple H put him in a headlock last taping.:rant::rant:

WWE re-organized the arena a bit compared to the first taping at Full Sail. The announce table is now positioned underneath the elevated hard camera with an LED screen backdrop. They now only have two floor rows on each side of the ring in order to fill up more space in the risers, which have also been expanded for higher capacity. Smart moves considering the line out the door was much longer than last time.

Triple H walked out in the arena to no music and walked around in the crowd thanking the fans ringside for attending. Awesome thing to do!

World Hvt. champion Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre and Sin Cara vs. Hunico were announced for the taping.

Dark Match: Xavier Woods beat FCW tag champ Corey Graves with a Shining Wizard. Quick match. The crowd was hot for Woods, the former Consequences Creed in TNA.

First NXT episode taping

Out came William Regal and Byron Saxton for commentary. Regal got a huge ovation from the male fans.

(1) Camacho (w/Hunico) beat Tyson Kidd with a DDT after Michael McGillicutty ran in as a distraction. Good showing for Camacho, and Kidd was very over.

(2) Bray Wyatt (former Husky Harris) beat Aiden English with an inverted neckbreaker. Bray was popular with the males and ominously sang on the way to the ring. Epic gimmick.

Jim Ross came to ringside for commentary.

(3) Prime Time Players (Titus O’Neil & Darren Young) beat the Usos. Formula tag match, but entertaining and surprisingly long. The PT players got good crowd heat and the Usos were popular also.

End of episode #1, apparently. JR has left the building. Ross returned later.

Second NXT episode taping

(1) Tamina beat Kaitlyn. More competitive than your average Divas match and Kaitlyn looked stunning in-person.

(2) Jinder Mahal squashed Percy Watson after a Camel Clutch. He re-applied his finisher after the match to boos.

(3) Leo Kruger beat Richie Steamboat. Leo rolled through Richie’s cross-body and grabbed the ropes to score a dirty pin.

(4) Justin Gabriel beat Heath Slater with a moonsault. Match of the night thus far. Slater had the crowd in a chorus of boos.

End of episode #2.

Dark Match: Sin Cara beat Hunico (w/Camacho) with a top-rope armdrag. Fun, fast-paced action.

Third NXT episode taping

(1) Johnny Curtis & Michael McGillicutty beat Bo Dallas & Derrick Bateman. It was all right. I was hoping to see Bo in singles action.

(2) Sofia Cortez beat Natalya via count-out. Natalya refused to compete and turned heel on Cortez after the match. She beat her down and applied the Sharpshooter. Sofia tripped both entering and exiting the arena.

(3) The Ascension (Connor O’Brian & Kenneth Cameron) squashed Garrett Dylan & Dante Dash.

(4) Drew McIntyre beat Seth Rollins (Tyler Black). Awesome! This match was a great mix of athleticism and power moves. The crowd was hot for it. Drew won with Future Shock.

End of episode #3.

Fourth NXT episode taping

(1) Raquel Diaz beat Paige. Paige got a huge ovation from the males.

(2) Antonio Cesaro beat Alex Riley to end the TV taping. The episode lines were blurred at some point.

Also taped for TV: World Hvt. champion Sheamus beat Drew McIntyre. Drew dominated, but Sheamus hit the Brogue Kick for the win. It seemed like this was taped for a future episode since Ross and Regal remained at the commentary table.

We got Johnny Curtis

Seems more like the current NXT than the first set of tapings. It'll be interesting to see how they put them together. Michael McGillicutty seems to begin a feud with Tyson Kidd at the start of the tapings, but it seems dropped by the end of the show, for example. There was a Michael McGillicutty vs. Tyson Kidd match taped at the first set, though. Maybe that will be thrown in there somewhere?

This is important, because it means that there have been two Johnny Curtis matches taped for NXT now.

Saw the whole show. My 2 Paise:

- Stage Design: I miss the yellow ropes. But the venue & stage design is perfect. Intimate, house-show feel. I don't miss the jib / moving wide camera though. The ramp & the entrance-tron are great to have.

- The New Theme Song: Its by Coheed & Cambria, right? Gets irritating to listen to as the episode goes by.

- Promo 1 / Match 1: Bo Rotundo: The only thing i got out of the promo, the match and the post-match interview was that Bo's got a great Colgate smile. The spear came out of nowhere, and didn't look as if it had much impact. Weak finishing move.

- Promos: Seth Rollins: Good intensity, although Rollins doesn't exude charisma like the young Punk did. Am i excited to watch him judging by the promo? No. As Gertner would say, he came across as another 'vanilla midget', who 'will be the future'.

- Promos: Bray Wyatt: Excellent gimmick. He finally seems to be owning the gimmick, and the promo put him, the personality, and his ferocity over. Intrigued, to say the least.

- Promos & Match 2: The Ascension: Wow! Connor O Brien finally looks intimidating! The dark, ominous entrance, followed by their angry screaming, and the fact that CJ Parker didn't even get to tag in his partner were all neat touches. The team has piqued my interest.

- Promo & Match 3: Damien Sandow: Damien Sandow, thank you. His reply: "You're Welcome!"; Enjoyed this.

- Backstage Vignette: Bateman & Curtis have fabulous chemistry. And that showed. Its good that the WWE allowed them to talk, and didn't forget their feud / frenemy-state.

- Match 4: Tyson Kidd VS Micheal McGillicutty: I didn't think this was their best match to date, but it was a good clinic nonetheless. Kidd's reverse moonsault was the OMG! moment that now accompanies almost every Kidd match. The finish sequence was a little weak, though i loved Kidd kicking McGillicutty's face before snapping on the Dungeon lock .

Overall: Strong debut episode. Very interested in how they introduce all the wrestlers. I'd give it a 7/10

I kindof know that they have to have WWE superstars, but I hope they give the rookies more time to have than just quick squash matches from now on.

Tyson Kidd and Michael McGuillacutty are too good to be on NXT well Tyson Kidd is.

Not sure why they would give Connor O'Brien a cool gimmick and then keep his name as Connor O'Brien. Seems to off-set everything.

Great promos by Seth Rollis and Bray Wyatt.

Bo Dallas kinda looks like Juvy without the mask. Hope he can get a better finish that that weak ass hug-spear.

Can't wait for next weeks episode with Claudio and Rollins.

<font color=goldenrod>When this starts airing in the US, I wonder if it'll start from the beginning. Wouldn't surprise me - since the rule of thumb seems to be that if it doesn't air in the US, it doesn't really count. Hence why there's no mention of the new NXT anywhere on WWE.com</font>

The WWE clearly wants Bo Dallas to be the star of this thing, and the dude is young and has that "Superstar" vibe. His Spear did not look the most vicious this week, though. I suspect that Bo will get over with the crowd, though (he already sort of is), and that he'll be promoted to either the RAW or SmackDown! roster pretty quickly. Either that or they'll create an NXT Championship for him.

I loved the Seth Rollins video, actually. I've heard fantastic things about Rollins in the ring, but not so many great things about his promo skills and personality. This video really hid that well. He talked clearly and confidently (granted, this was an edited video), and he seemed like a star. I could see this guy being the first major break-out star of the new NXT experiment, even though there are probably a few guys who would prefer that to go to Bo Dallas or Richie Steamboat first.

Bray Wyatt's character is amazing, and what I really love about this new NXT is the different vibe to production. I still want to see Wyatt on the main rosters, though, but I guess this will be a great little test run for the character.

Tyson Kidd and Michael McGillicutty got to work the main event to get the new era of NXT off with a bang, and it was a pretty nice little bout. These two could have a great match with each other in their sleep. It did at times feel like they were wrestling the same match as they did on NXT the other week (that really awesome one), but they did work some great stuff in there. I wish they would give a kayfabe reason for these two being involved in the new season of NXT, however. It could be that Dusty Rhodes has known these guys for years, since they grew up in the industry, and that he wanted them to work for him. Kidd could have said yes because he will take any chance he can to wrestle, while McGillicutty said yes under the advice of William Regal, who could be mentoring McGillicutty behind the scenes and telling him to get that practice in NXT so that he can go on to RAW and SmackDown! and dominate.

Loved it, probably enjoyed it more than Raw. It's was one hell of a good idea to have it here so they can not only groom the future of the in-ring performers, but also the future productions guys. Those Bray Wyatt and Ascension videos were awesome and a lot better than anything WWE has done in-house for a while.

I really enjoyed Bray in the ring when he was Husky Harris too so I can't wait to see what he can do with a character that he already seems brilliant in playing.

Also, holy fuck Ascension. If they ever get called up, they shouldn't change a thing about their promo video to announce them before they debut, their entrance and their look. Pretty sure that the short matches will carry on for a little while yet while they introduce some of these guys and girls, but after a couple of months they could get some stories going, especially utilising Dusty Rhodes in that GM role.

Great start!! Loved pretty much everything about it.

The guys producing this can't be doing Raw/SmackDown. In one show they have stablished around 6 guys, who they are, what their gimmick is, etc.

The vignettes for Rollins, The Ascension, Wyatt, etc were all perfect. The stage/ring set up is perfect. Ross/Regal/Dusty are all perfect in their roles.

Things I noticed:

I like the new intro/music, etc. Real fresh start.

How different do the Rotundo kids look? Do they have the same mother?

The Ascension look really cool/have a cool gimmick...but their names kinda "betray" their image. Kenneth Cameron and Connor O'Brian soundlike two RyBack jobbers.

Also, feel like they could do with a valet (which I learned they used to have), maybe Buggy Nova would be a perfect fit?

Love the fact that there's no bullshit competition aspect.

I really think they should have a NXT Championship. It'd give everything more purpose beyond trying to progress to the main roster.

I thought NXT was fantastic and the fresh start is what it really needed.

I'm unsure on Bo Dallas. I get the feeling that he's being made to be the face of NXT. :-\ Also, his hair is weird. I've never seen long hair on a man, that long, be so straight.

Now, The Ascension. I love those guys. I don't have a problem with their names like some people do but they are just fantastic. The entrance was great and the WWE really needs something like The Ascension, entrance and all. These days you just get a tag team consisting of "Generic Name 1 & Generic Name 2" and they just walk down to the ring either smiling and high fiving the fans if they're faces or walking down and showing off/scowling if they're heels. The closest we've had recently is O'Neil and Young being collectively know as "The Prime Time Players". (Who, by the way, are pretty fantastic themselves)

You don't really get tag teams like The Ascension, these days, as far as gimmicks, looks, entrances, music and so on goes.

The main event was great and seeing the crowd get into it was good too. It was a great main event for the "re-birth" of NXT. Also, having Regal & Ross at the announce table is a great idea. Both guys are fantastic at putting over younger guys and they will play a key role in getting the FCW guys over with the fans. Also, they do their jobs correctly and actually call the match, call moves by there actual names and put over talent, unlike Lawler and Cole whole just constantly talk about the "main event guys" and how great the WWE is in the entertainment world and Twitter. I was so happy I didn't hear Twitter get a single mention. (And for the record, yes, I do know Vince tells Lawler and Cole what to say)

So overall, NXT is now a must watch for me, just like Raw and SmackDown are. One thing I will say is that it needs Championships, but I'm sure they'll be appearing very soon. Also, I hope vignettes don't always play for someone before their entrance and we see their opponent already in the ring. I noticed that everyone that won (apart from Kidd) had a vignette play before their entrances, so it kind of took away some of the "element of surprise" for me during the matches.

I know they were used as a way to inform us of the wrestlers but why not have it for the other guys too?

I think that will change. Most of the weeks of taping so far have been shorter squash matches to introduce these guys to us. I think some of the guys beat will have them too in future episodes when they're the ones being showcased.

I think the next 4-8 weeks will be very similar so they get a roster together and then we start seeing some competitive matches and, hopefully, some storylines.

If they do go the route of the storylines, I hope it's like the production is in the fact you've got established WWE staff overseeing, but the general direction comes from the guys at university.

Definitely an amazing video and an amazing character put forward by Wyatt. I said a couple of weeks back that I really want to see Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton feud. Now, more so than ever, given Orton's recent suspension, I think that a feud between these two could be absolutely great. Eli Cottonwood has been released, but have Big E. Langston play Wyatt's new follower. Wyatt attacks Orton and talks about what he talks about -- Orton's sins catching up to him and Wyatt being the monster that eats the monster -- and Wyatt and Orton have a match. Orton wins via disqualification when Big E. Langston makes his debut and attacks him, but then Wyatt wins a Steel Cage rematch between the two.

Push this character to the moon.

Pretty good shows.

Like everyone I love Bray Wyatt, amazing character they could do a lot with. Already knew I loved Sandow, Cesaro and Rollins. I like Richie Steamboat too

Bloody hate The Ascension though. No one buys that shit, it's not a comic book movie. Not sure why Bo Dallas has to be promoted so homoerotically. Leo Kruger is just forgettable and everyone's finishers are pretty poor.

I really fucking hate The Ascension actually.

Kapoutman
06-28-2012, 11:17 AM
Shit, I think I'm in love with Bray Wyatt.

Antonio Cesaro is pretty impressive in the ring. I rarely have the occasion to watch Smackdown, so it was my first Cesaro match since his debut match. I like the move set and the intensity. Too many wrestlers try to do the deliberate, slow, methodical style these days.

Kapoutman
06-28-2012, 11:21 AM
I like Johnny Curtis because he actually shows some facial expressions in the ring. He's not just wrestling with a straight face. It gets me more involved in the match because it looks like the guy actually cares. He's not just there, he has a presence.

Maybe I should have watched the previous season of NXT after all.

Watching this now.

Completely unimpressed by Seth Rollins. Spaz out during his entrance and after he won made me laugh. That's about it. Terrible finishing move.

Weird that they are treating Jinder Mahal like he is entirely new, and hasn't been on the main roster for over a year already.

First impression is that I like Leo Kruger, but haven't seen enough to make a final opinion of him. Looks like Al Snow. Sleeper hold as a finisher, though? It takes a man of Ziggler-level quality to make the sleeper seem like a legit finisher.

Richie Steamboat kinda looks like Mac from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Less impressed by Ascension this week, especially when compared side to side with The Usos.

I liked Richie Steamboat in the ring. Again, seems to have a terrible finishing move. Seems to me, like he could really use some sort of arm submission, if his thing is gonna be working the arm.

I like how after Antonio's match, Aksana had a mic in her hand. Totally an edited out promo there.

I liked Bray Wyatt's promo again. I just can't help but feel that I am going to be disappointed by him in the ring though... because at the end of the day.... he's Husky Harris.

Curtis and Bateman are both good enough that they should be on the main roster right now. Not sure why they aren't.

Disappointed by Husky Harris in the ring? That guy can move for a big guy. He was awesome on Season 2 of NXT and the only thing missing was having any sembelence of a character... Which he amazingly has in spades now.

Lock Jaw
06-28-2012, 04:18 PM
Didn't watch NXT Season 2, but in his Nexus days, he just seemed like a fat slob with terrible tattoos. A character will definitely help to cover it up, though. Not sure, but I think he looks like he may be in slightly better shape?

#BROKEN Hasney
06-28-2012, 04:21 PM
Fair enough then. Yeah, he didn't get any time to really do anything Nexus wise. But he has lost weight, so he might be even better.

The match I linked to from FCW in this thread wasn't bad, but it wasn't really a competitive one.

Just watched the second Bray Wyatt promo from this episode and it's amazing.

Ignore the character for a second though, which is brilliant itself, and just look at that video editing. They just need to outsource the main roster hype debut videos to these students because they are clearly brilliant.

Actually, I rather like his finishing move. Granted, I also like it when JTG does it.

I think the "arm submission finisher" role is already pretty well filled by Alberto Del Rio. If you want the "working the arm" thing to lead to a finisher, then he should have one that requires use of the arms to fight out - an example would be Drew's Future Shock DDT.

Mr. Nerfect
06-28-2012, 05:59 PM
Richie Steamboat used a Superkick in FCW. Why not let him do that? I liked Steamboat far more than I liked Bo Dallas. Steamboat can really work. I wish they would dial back on the "I want to be my own man, but I still wrestle exactly like my father" angle, though. I'd enjoy Bo Dallas far more if he was a heel against Steamboat.

Bray Wyatt is still fantastic.

Antonio Cesaro is still fantastic. I absolutely loved his squash. He looked impressive and aggressive.

Jim Ross really amazed me on commentary. I remember him getting really shit towards the end of his RAW run, but I guess time off and having Michael Cole doing everything (not trying to bash Cole) has made JR seem absolutely incredible again. JR and Regal's chemistry is amazing. The exchange between Ross, Regal & Russo in regards to The Usos' chemistry and Regal's twin daughters...

Byron Saxton wasn't too bad on chemistry, but the team of Ross & Regal just cannot be beat and should probably do everything ever.

The Ascension continued to impress me. Kenneth Cameron is awesome. I love it when heels get the babyface in the corner and just utilise those five counts. Great heel tactic. Them getting a win over established Superstars will do them good, too. They should probably be put on the main roster to feud with Epico & Primo soon. The Colons are babyfaces that could make The Ascension look killer, and Epico is no doubt familiar with both O'Brian & Cameron.

More thoughts later.

haven't this weeks episode but Leo Kruger was a bit shit/had nothing about him at all last time I saw any FCW

Mr. Nerfect
06-30-2012, 11:15 AM
Leo Kruger bored me to tears with his FCW stuff, too, CSL, but he was actually quite awesome this week on NXT. I really didn't think of Al Snow at all, but I've seen the comparison like 800 times in here. He was doing solid work, and he's got the arrogant character down. There's just nothing "special" about it, though. I want to see him in a feud. I did like the way he went in for the kill with his finisher. I don't think I would like it if Kruger used the Sleeper Hold all the time, but I did enjoy that he won the match by capitalising on a situation and it sort of gave the finish a "shoot" feeling.

Jiro had a good look to him. He looked like an actual cruiserweight. He's been released now, though. :(

Seth Rollins really unimpressed me, and his spazz-out was fucking retarded. I do like that they are attempting to give Rollins a character -- in that he wants to unique and just doesn't give a fuck -- instead of just making him "bland indy success story." It's just a shame that when he got in the ring it was just...there. Plus, his ring work really did remind me of CM Punk this week. Like if all CM Punk did was his kicks and stuff. That's not a bad thing, actually -- just pointing it out.

There are a lot of random finishes in NXT. Bo Dallas' Spear is pretty weak (not sure if that was a one time thing), Richie Steamboat's "Sling Blade" is far weaker than the Superkick and Rollins' "Blackout" is pretty shit compared to anything else he does. As I said with Kruger -- I like that they are giving the matches a "it can finish at any time" vibe, and that it explains why the matches are so short while they are establishing these guys, but I hope that the current finishers aren't what we get all the time.

I really don't get what was so terrible about Steamboat. I far prefer him to Bo Dallas or Seth Rollins so far. That being said, I think my favourite babyface was probably Jason Jordan. :-\ I also like Rick Victor, too. As a random heel enhancement dude, he's pretty good. He just looks like a villain. He and Heath Slater would make a tremendous heel tag team, in my opinion.

MY THOUGHTS:

I really can't wait for Bray Wyatt. Character is so interesting that I'm not even sure I care if he can wrestle well or not.

I really, really don't care for Seth Rollins. Despite the hype, despite the pretty good match that was pointed to me last week, the NXT incarnation of Seth Rollins is completely uninteresting. He thrashes around like an idiot and has a move set that consists of nothing but kicks. I was hoping for something more exciting from the guy.

Kassius Ohno seems like he could have potential (plus he has a good beard), but the gimmick is the corniest thing I have seen in a long time. The "Oh... NOOOOO!" thing made me cringe, and it's kind of dumb to have a guy who uses a punch as a finisher. Same goes for Big Show. Why not punch out the other guy right away? It doesn't make sense in wrestling. Every one else is throwing ten thousand punches a match, but these guys cannot because watch out, it's a finisher! I hate it.

The women were above average for WWE women. They could hit their mark without tripping or botching.

I like Jake Carter, but that may be just because of who his father is. He did not do much in the match, but what he did was crisp and had impact.

The main event was entertaining. Not a fan of Bo Dallas or Seth Rollins, but I like everyone else in the match. Especially Kidd.

Derrick Bateman is weird. Sometimes he comes off as really interesting with a goofy personality, then other times he comes off as bland and bored. Not sure what's up with the guy. Jinder Mahal is improving, but still needs a personality that's not just "I'm a foreigner and I'm evil!".

Ultra Mantis
07-05-2012, 02:00 PM
Jinder Mahal needs some kind of Matthew Patel jobber gimmick. Pretty sure that's the only way he would ever be a tiny bit entertaining. As for Bateman, on this occasion I would put that down to being booked in a match with Mahal and his soul subsequently leaving his body.

Women's match was decent for women. Gonna pretend that that chick was the winner of Tough Enough.

Still not buying into Seth Rollins. Most notable thing he does is spaz out during his entrance, causing me to laugh at him.

I enjoyed the team of Carter & Graves. Seem to work well together. Seem like a more "real" tag team than The Ascension. Would like to see the two teams feud. C & G have a better finishing move than Ascension does as well.

I am split on Kassius Ohno. I like the promo, made him seem like a serious individual who likes to inflict pain. Then he came out all animated and the first thing he tries to do is chain wrestle. I like the gimmick of he knocks people out, but I think to go further with it, he needs to go bigger in the ring. More power moves and more domination. Total goof of a promo after the match. Honestly, the entire time, I was thinking this "only beats people by knocking them out" gimmick would have been great for Mike Knox, who looked like more of a legit badass than Ohno. All in all, I think Ohno needs to tone himself down abit. Be more "focused", "all business", and "ruthless".

Another great promo segment by Bray Wyatt. I liked this one the best out of all of them. Find myself really looking forward to seeing him next week, and can only hope I am not let down.

Jinder Mahal is the best heel on NXT right now. :shifty:

Good main event. Not because of anything Seth Rollins or Bo Dallas did. Weird seeing Tyson Kidd losing on NXT, when he has qualified for the MitB.

This week's NXT was pretty good with the main event and Wyatt's promo being what I liked the most. Didn't like Ono's promo mostly because of how awkward it sounded.

Only real negative is how obvious the outcomes to the matches have been considering only 1 wrestler or team gets an entrance and special focus. Although to be fair, the WWE is rushing to make sure people know those wrestlers are meant to be the actual stars of NXT as quickly as possible.

Either Bray Wyatt is going to be a superstar, or my name is not Scott Roberts.

I'd like to know what the hell Graves & Carter's gimmick is supposed to be they appear to be underwear model rejects from what I could tell.

Kinda getting bored with NXT. Liked NXT Redemption better.

not seeing people's problem with Rollins, match was fine, mannerisms were fine, he looks fine etc, guessing because of the "hype" and only getting a small/pretty generic dose of him

He just seems a bit bland to me. I have always had an obsession with move sets. His move set is kind of boring. It's kick kick kick kick kick running stomp. Yeah, the hype didn't help either. I was expecting something else, I guess.

NXT Redemption was totally better. Mainly because it had actual stories going on.

Wait till NXT settles down and has storylines.
