A lot of the problem was that the Maloofs didn't care that they had the worst team in the league. They're terrible businessmen and they will probably fail in their next project too.

Hopefully, with new owners who actually care about the team and a new arena, the Kings can move on from being the laughing stock of the NBA.

If I recall this isn't the first time he's expressed his opinions on it. I also don't really agree that he should be fired if ASKED to come on and state his opinion. Now if he went about doing it on his own....well then you're just asking for trouble.

His twitter response to all the flack:

"Today on OTL, as part of a larger, wide-ranging discussion on today's news, I offered my personal opinion as it relates to Christianity, a point of view that I have expressed publicly before. I realize that some people disagree with my opinion and I accept and respect that. As has been the case in the past, my beliefs have not and will not impact my ability to report on the NBA. I believe Jason Collins displayed bravery with his announcement today and I have no objection to him or anyone else playing in the NBA."

He's also stated in the past that he felt the NBA was "ready" for an openly gay player. I haven't seen the segment so I can't really comment on anything other than what I've read. He didn't just come out and say "Hey gay people suck!"

He was asked to join a panel about the effects an openly homosexual player would have on the NBA. He doesn't agree with it, and also stated as well that ALL sex outside of marriage (not just homosexual sex) were sins. He then proceeded to say....

"In talking to some people around the league, there's a lot Christians in the NBA and just because they disagree with that lifestyle, they don't want to be called bigoted and intolerant and things like that. That's what LZ was getting at. Just like I may tolerate someone whose lifestyle I disagree with, he can tolerate my beliefs. He disagrees with my beliefs and my lifestyle but true tolerance and acceptance is being able to handle that as mature adults and not criticize each other and call each other names."

This in a nutshell is the basis for everything that is wrong with our society. You can't have peaceful discourse or differing opinions on anything without someone throwing a fit when they aren't agreed with instantly and starting the namecalling.

I don't think his opinion on homosexuality is relevant and shouldn't have been asked. The question about how this news would effect the league was relevant and he handled that question very well.

It seemed like he was very uncomfortable with the question with his facial expression and demeanor. He probably shouldn't have answered the question. The person who asked the question should have some sort of disciplinary action if he knew he was throwing him a softball to spout a rant about how he thinks homosexuality is a sin.

DaveBrawl
04-30-2013, 07:06 PM
Of course whoever made the questions up knew what he would say. It's probably why he was picked to be on that particular panel. I still don't see why anyone should face disciplinary actions. That seems very rash since the entire point of the show (and lately the network) is to encourage discussion and he was simply giving voice to what a large part of the population believes in. It's not like he said the dude should be blacklisted from the sport on every level or even anything harsh against him at all. I haven't seen the show as I try to avoid ESPN if they aren't showing highlights for this very reason but odds are he didn't feel comfortable answering but did it because it was his job and was what he was paid to do.

Nobodies except the player.

Nobody should be asked personal opinions in a professional matter. The debate is how this will effect him as a player in the league in a professional setting. Brousarad handled that question very well, but then he was asked his personal opinion on homosexuality.

Are you intentionally being thick?

This wasn't a black and white question. This is a profession where the professionals spend a lot of time together. These professionals often see each other more than they see their families during the season. The lines are blurred dude. There are a number of different circumstances that happen in a locker room, on a bus, on an airplane that ones personal beliefs could be brought to light and affect the chemistry of the team.

Broussard's personal opinion, whether or not anyone agrees with it, is bound to be shared by potential colleagues and at some point in a season it could become a lighting rod for conflict, conversation or whatever. If Mr. Collins felt a need to share his sexual preference then he has to be prepared for the tolerance or intolerance of these colleagues.

I never understand the stance that one person has to accept that Homosexuality is 'here' yet Homosexuals don't have to accept that everyone doesn't agree with their lifestyle.

SlickyTrickyDamon
04-30-2013, 07:56 PM
Since homosexuality is genetic I think you have to accept it like anything else like race. You don't have to like it, but you have to accept that it's not a choice. I don't know if by lifestyle you are saying "choice." It's not a choice.

I agree with you noone should be asked their opinions on the matter. It shouldn't even be a story, but sadly it has to be, but you singled him out as having the irrelevant opinion seemingly because he didn't agree with your view on the matter. That is what I disagree with.

It boggles my mind that people are still allowed to "not agree" with homosexuality. You cannot separate homosexuality and homosexuals. "I don't agree with homosexuality but I have nothing against homosexuals." Yes, you do.

If you "don't agree" with homosexuality then you are intolerant and kind of an asshole. You don't get a free pass because you find the least offensive way to word being intolerant. Sick of this "grey area" nonsense.

I have already backtracked a little saying it was mostly the interviewer's mistake for asking for personal opinions when they are discussing how this will effect a professional environment.

What was quoted is Brousard backtracking, but not doing a great job at it. Lifestyle does have a hidden agenda for most people who say it especially for one's who have already stated hatred to homosexuals. When they say lifestyle they mean choice. So, even in his backtracking he still shows his ignorance. He also backtracked further by saying all pre-martial sex is a sin. If he had led with that statement it would have been ok.

What does this mean? What is "lifestyle" to you? What part of the "lifestyle" do you disagree with? The 'having sex with men' part of the lifestyle? Stop using all of these safe words and just say what it is that you don't like or "don't agree with."

I would respect people a ton more if they were just like "I don't like homosexuals because the thought of two men having butt sex grosses me out. I don't know why I'm like this but I can't stop," rather than dancing around everything so much.

This means that I don't like the Stance that some supporters of the LBGT community take when somebody says anything outside of 'I fully support and encourage you to live your life'. If a person attempts to say anything about Homosexuality outside of openly and wholeheatedly supporting it, then that person is met with the type of disdain that you're attempting to throw my way now. It seems somewhat ironic that for a group of people who want acceptance or at least tolerance that the supporters are rather stubborn to accept the fact that people don't agree with their view of the world.

A lifestyle typically reflects an individual's attitudes, values or world view. Therefore, a lifestyle is a means of forging a sense of self and to create cultural symbols that resonate with personal identity. Not all aspects of a lifestyle are voluntary. Surrounding social and technical systems can constrain the lifestyle choices available to the individual and the symbols she/he is able to project to others and the self.

The Decision was easily the stupidest thing he did but a lot more of the complaints and criticisms against him was from his antics. The worst might have been the open mocking of Dirk being sick during the 2011 Finals. Pretty much got labeled as a "sore loser" anytime he lost a big game because he'd get upset at people taunting him (even though he did the same) or refused to shake hands (even though he made sure others did when he won games).

Once he started to scale back on that stuff last year, he became a lot more likeable as a star.

It's funny because prior to the Decision, you couldn't find anyone with a negative thing to say about LeBron's character or him needing to grow up. Seriously, dude was in the league for seven years prior to that point and I don't think you could find a single article questioning his professionalism. In fact, it was the opposite and people were talking about how mature he was for carrying a team and a city on his back for so long and being such a great figure in the community.

The Decision was a poor public relations decision that people used to slam him personally and make assumptions about his character, nevermind the fact that the whole production was designed to raise money for the Boys & Girls Club. Now all of a sudden, he's immature. Come on.

The guy went from one of the most loved players in the league to one of Forbes most hated athletes because of a misstep in publicity, not because he beat his girlfriend, drove drunk or took PEDs, but because of a poor choice of words at something that should have been viewed more as pomp and circumstance. Can't blame him for being a little pissy during that season.

The hot heads on that team lose there cool, take cheap shots and turn this series into a 7 game bloodbath. I don't know who wins. I do know that for every NY fan who says what about Melo, I say what about West. The way the Knicks want to play matchup wise, creates a mismatch against West.

I think West is going to dominate this series, win or lose and basically price himself out of our cap next year. David West is amazing to watch. If you're a true basketball fan, you would appreciate his game.

Danilo Gallinari being hurt is the single reason the Nuggets didn't win the championship. Where is his vote?

So it would still be LeBron James since being the best player in the world makes you pretty valuable.

The Heat would probably still be pretty great with Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen and the rest. The Knicks haven't and wouldn't have any success without Carmello.

Anthony should have more votes than just one if the voters actually followed the rules.

Any answer other than Lebron this year is kind of blasphemy , tbh.

the only other answer is Kevin Durant, and I don't even agree with that

HE SHOULD'VE GOTTEN ALL THE VOTES

I always wonder if Eric Spolstra actually coaches or if he was just hired to look good in a suit and always says stuff like: "Do the thing with the shot, Lebron." Or "Dunk it Dwayne, YEAH!!!!"

This is a hell of a game right now.

Bulls probably going to lose the series, but damned if this doesn't have the makings of that Bulls/Celtics series that went 7 games.

Why is Nate Robinson usually treated like a "jobber" player, why don't teams like him, does he have a "bad attitude" or something

nah. Hes just small. Probably playing the best basketball of his career at the most perfect time.

Yea it seems when I see him play he usually does pretty well. But he's been in like 10 different teams

I love that he is a Bull. He did work against the Heat tonight.

That and he's pretty average stats-wise to the point he's been a bench player far longer than he's ever been as a starter.

Bulls are almost like a perfect fit for him as a player.

You are right smelly, makes me wonder.....

where does Tom Thibodeuo rank as a coach? Today? Last ten years? Can't remember a coach getting this much out of a team.

I have always loved Nate Robinson. Sometimes all you need is one skill and little man can put it in the bucket.

The Butcher Thibodeuo is literally coaching his ass off right now. He is doing a masterful job, while shooting eye daggers in Derrick Rose's direction.

Was a brief rumor going around that even those in the Bulls organization think he might never return to previous form. Bottom line is no one knows what he'l be like. Should the Vikes have done the same with Adrian Peterson?

Answer: No. Rose and the Bulls have too much invested in each other and his overall competitive spirit gives me hope for him. This years not-coming-back debacle aside, the kid has always set a huge goal every off season and delivered (Jump shot, 3 Pointers, Stamina). He gets the benefit of the doubt from me.
