Kimbrel has been way shakier than most people know. He's basically an All-Star lock at this point, but this has been his most inconsistent year just from the games I've watched (which I haven't missed many this year). He's been far from automatic.

Things are not well when a team that hasn't scored a run in 37 innings beats you 3-1.

Braun only gets 65 games. Should have gotten the full hundred.

Not sure how his suspension doesn't go into next season. Really put your foot down on this one, MLB. Last place team gets its best player suspended and will get a better draft pick because of it.

Adeiny Hechavaria swung at the second pitch of the game that was at least a foot out of the zone and then struck out and I was like "maybe it'll be different this time" then I left the room and when I came back he had already given up a run

I got my nickname from playing baseball, but once kids started throwing breaking stuff, I couldn't hit anymore. Made a pitcher cry one time when I hit a long home run to center field (basically my career highlight). Played catcher mostly, some outfield. I was the worst pitcher imaginable; in little league I believe I hit four kids in one inning before being taken out.

USA Today is reporting A-Rod won't be facing a suspension but instead a lifetime ban now that he's pulled out of all negotiations with MLB. Also confirms earlier speculation that he was indeed the person who tried to bribe the clinic owner to get all his documents pulled and destroyed.

Highly doubt ARod gets the Pete Rose ban, here. 100 seems like it might be out of the question if he either sued or really pushed the issue. Having your name on a piece, or pieces, of paper isn't evidence. Braun had actually failed a drug test. ARod has not. He did admit to PED use, but that's not failing a test. I don't see MLB having a strong case here if ARod puts up a fight and shoves back.

He was always a cheating cunt. Yelling at that 3rd Baseman to drop the pop-up and swatting the glove out of Arroyo's hand. Although if he gets a lifetime ban it's only because they want to nail his balls to the wall because they couldn't get shit on Barry Bonds.

Could also blame Fox Sports as well for that debacle since they were the ones in charge of showing the World Series that year and wasted no time making the announcement once Boras sent it. Had ESPN or anyone else not showing the game revealed the announcement, it probably wouldn't have been ridiculed as hard as it was because Fox did it.

Could swear he had another heelish moment between the Rangers era and 1st year with the Yanks involving him ridiculing other players on their lack of free time and the backlash from those players who stated they had kids to take care of unlike him.

Had the same thought. May be his final pitch for Atlanta too...I'm not sure he fits into the Braves' plans long-term considering the logjam of starters we are having. Maybe he'll come back on a quasi-hometown discount...I doubt that's how he wants to go out.

According to the Biogenesis clinic's whistle-blower, expect more leagues to consider getting their hands on those documents once the stuff with MLB is done. The actual list of clients the clinic has includes almost every major sport in the US and has people who've been clients for years.

Porter Fischer, the former Biogenesis of Miami clinic employee who turned boxes of documents over to the Miami New Times last year, declined to name the athletes. But in his first television interview, Fischer told "Outside the Lines" that numerous sports had at least one athlete that received performance-enhancing drugs from clinic founder Tony Bosch.

"This isn't a 2013 thing or a 2012 thing; some of these people have been on the books since 2009," Fischer said.

Fischer said he and associates have identified athletes from the NBA, NCAA, professional boxing, tennis and MMA, in addition to other professional baseball players who have not yet been identified. As far as he knows, he said, Bosch had no clients from the NFL or NHL.

It's amazing what'll happen when you're not trying to use a 4-man rotation!

Also, I thought the Rockies had like, one of the best offenses in the league this year? What happened? (I don't follow/care about the NL so I only hear about teams like the Rockies in passing)

Skippord
07-26-2013, 07:35 AM
They still bizarrely won't let pitchers go over a hundred pitches most of the time like they did with the four man rotation, but fortunately 3 of the 5 have been throwing 7 innings before going over a hundred.

And with the offense my personal belief is that when Tulo and Dexter Fowler got hurt everyone but Michael Cuddyer tried to do too much and they're still in that sort of mode. So they're taking bad at bats and mostly struggling, and now Michael Cuddyer's struggling a bit. Tulo doesn't seem to be fully ready to play yet and Dexter Fowler is the streakiest hitter on the planet. Also Carlos Gonzalez while still the best hitter on the team has like 15 different minor injuries that are messing up his swing and his approach. So basically at the moment no one is performing consistently on offense besides D.J. Lemahieu for some reason.

Multiple teams are making a late run at the Philadelphia Phillies with offers for pitcher Cliff Lee as Wednesday's trade deadline nears, baseball sources told ESPN.com Friday.
ESPN considers him as the top pitcher available going into this year's deadline although Ervin Santana could end up ahead of him if the Royals steep demands get met.

Turns out the Biogenisis Clinic roids scandal goes deeper than just pro and college since high school baseball prospect names also show up on the lists MLB has access to.

No just in what's being asked for demands since the Royals are currently asking for a steep price and probably steeper than what the Phillies want from Lee.

Royals want MLB-ready talent as the basis for any deal while the Phillies probably want deals to be more prospect-based or someone willing to cover what's left of Lee's current deal.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Iglesias trade.

Tigers have lots of OF depth so Garcia was expendable. Villareal never impressed me so I don't know, don't mind seeing him go.

Iglesias provides an upgrade in defense over Peralta. JP isn't necessarily "bad", but with Miggy and Prince at the corners you need someone better than average at SS to compensate. Even without a looming Peralta suspension, I like the pickup. Peralta is probably gone as a FA after this season regardless, so it's a great pickup from the Tigers to fill that void. The obvious glove upgrade is good too. Obviously Iglesias' numbers are going to regress and come down a bit but that's fine, if he can hit for decent average and provide good defense that's all we really need from him. The biggest part of the pickup obviously is if Peralta gets suspended (looking more likely by the day it seems), so it's a great insurance pickup.

Red Sox still have a revolving door when it comes to the SS spot ever since Nomar left. Also gave up 2 lower tier prospects to the White Sox while receiving one from the Tiger in return.

Love, love, love the Ian Kennedy acquisition for the Padres. Fly ball pitchers in PETCO do really, really well. Love that the main piece of the deal was a left handed specialist, who, in 50 games, has thrown 30 lousy innings, to go along with a non prospect relief pitcher and a competitive balance pick. For a guy who is going to give the Padres 180 to 200 innings at an at least league average clip for the next 2.5 years. What a hose.

Love Peavy to the Red Sox, because I love Jake Peavy more than any man on Earth not named Tony Gwynn. Think it's a great pickup. They get a legitimate top of the rotation starter, when healthy, for a weak hitting defensive wiz of a short stop. Don't think Alisail Garcia will amount to much. Tigers got a great glove, and with their ridiculous offense, they don't need his stick to produce in order to gain value from him going forward. Also, the move allows the Red Sox to hand Xander Bogearts the SS job in the near future, and he's projected as an above average bat as a SS, which is basically an all star.

Astros did well. I don't think Norris is anything special. He's been olay this year, but his strikeouts are down, and I don't think he's going to be much better than he is now, os moving him was the best decision. Orioles bolster their rotation with another solid arm. Much better deals this year for the Orioles this year than last year's dumpster diving.

Buck Showalter thinks if MLB does a year or longer suspension for A-Rod, its going to act as a big reward for the Yankees instead of hurting them. MLB would have helped them get under the luxury tax threshold and they can splurge again without worrying about the the massive tax penalty (drops from 50% to just 17%).

Also thinks the Os would lose catcher Matt Wieters because they wouldn't be able to compete with the money the Yankees would have saved from A-Rod alone.

According to ESPN, A-Rod and his reps have a few days to negotiate a deal with MLB over his suspension or else they will just go ahead with whatever they want as a punishment.

So far MLB is still threatening a lifetime ban if he keeps being stubborn and even with a negotiated deal, his will still be the longest out of everyone from the clinic.

The suspension of Rodriguez and eight other major league players should be announced within the next few days, with most of the other eight expected to accept 50-game suspensions without appealing.

If Rodriguez does not agree to a lengthy suspension without appealing, one source said, MLB has threatened to suspend him for life, forcing him to fight the league through arbitration. The sources did not say what length of suspension either side would accept, only that the two camps "aren't anywhere close," according to one.

So far MLB is still threatening a lifetime ban if he keeps being stubborn and even with a negotiated deal, his will still be the longest out of everyone from the clinic.

Fuck that. Selig needs to show some fucking balls and use Article XII (B) to ban A-Fraud's ass for life for conduct detrimental to baseball.

Wow at the huge comeback win for the Red Sox

Was down 7-2 bottom of the 9th and ended up winning 8-7. Nava's game winning hit just missed being a grand slam by a few inches.

Tribe totally pantsed the white sox this week. Everyone told me I was crazy when I said the wheels were going to fall off the wagon. Funny thing is no one is getting fired because they just promoted everyone in the front office. I'm sure a hitting coach or strength and conditioning coach get the ax tho.

Mike Olt like 2 for 35 so far with the Cubs in AAA. Legitimately worried.

lol wtf watching Nats/Brewers game in the background and the stadium announcers just went "Now pinch hitting, Chris Davis" and in my semi-drunken state I was like WHAT THE HECK

Guess they have some jobber named Khris (yes, Khris) Davis on their team. Baseball is such a funny sport.

According to ESPN and others, A-Rod is currently looking at a ban that will last until the end of the 2014 season or roughly 214 games when MLB makes it official on Monday. MLB gave up trying to negotiate with him anymore after recent talks stalled.

Several sources familiar with the talks said tense deliberations between Rodriguez and commissioner Bud Selig's office broke down completely Saturday after Selig told officials he would no longer negotiate.

One source told OTL that MLBPA executive director Michael Weiner called MLB executive vice president Rob Manfred on Saturday asking for a meeting between the union, MLB, the Yankees and Rodriguez's camp, but MLB refused.

MLB has said repeatedly that the Yankees have no place in negotiations and that discipline was the domain of Selig and no one else, a source said. Several sources also said that Selig was "furious" with Rodriguez for telling reporters he would not negotiate, even as his attorneys sought a deal to mitigate MLB's looming punishment.
