For example

Shane died way earlier in the comics, baby Judith died along with Lori, there is no Daryl, Carl is missing an eye, Rick is missing a hand, etc.

yeah, as sixx said, it's been kind of wildly variable in how closely it follows the comics.

the pacing is very different, especially moreso earlier on, but it seems to have shifted more in favour of the tv show catching up now. there was no way they were going to make it at the pace season one went.

major differences and spoilers so far (at least one of sixx's wouldn't have happened in the show anyway yet given when it happens in the comic) in the books...

- shane dies a whole lot quicker
- dale dies a whole lot later (and in a very different, far more badass manner - i think that character got cheated on the show)
- there is no t-dogg (or 99% of the original group - andrea, amy, rick, dale, carl, shane, lori, carol and sophia are the only book characters at the outset. most of the other characters they have since encountered are from the books or pastiches of several characters from the books).
- there is no daryl (or merle - though i believe daryl is destined to make his debut in the comics soon, if he hasn't already)
- andrea is not yet dead
- sophia is not yet dead
- carol is long dead, and not at all from being sent from the group or anything like that; she kills herself at the prison by freely walking up to a biter the group had chained up in the courtyard for research. in fact, of all the show-book characters, carol probably is the most differently characterised.
- tyreese is decapitated by the governor in the comics, not herschel; herschel does die during the prison attack, but he is gunned down in cold blood (still by the governor), after witnessing his last living son get killed in the fight.
- tyreese also has an incredibly badass moment where he gets stuck in the prison gym with an outrageous number of zombies and the others fear he is dead but go back to save him eventually and he's just sitting there holding his hammer surrounded by dead zombies, which i don't think we're going to get, sadly
- lori does not die during pregnancy, but is rather killed during the governor's attack on the prison, shot from behind through the abdomen (while carrying judith, who also dies) with a shotgun
- just a buttload of kids are there that aren't in the show, and probably with good reason: there are these twin boys, one of whom is evil (naturally), two girls that get decapitated in the prison by an insane prisoner (who was also absent from the show), tyreese's daughter and her loony boyfriend, children fucking everywhere. which i guess they started to mitigate on the show with the new additions of late.
- the governor cuts off rick's hand (which is a fairly major plot/character development thing for rick, so idk if they're gonna end up doing that later or not)
- andrea never lived in woodbury as the governor's ensorcelled offsider

funny, when the show started, i commented to jazz about how i thought daryl and merle were a split pastiche of abraham, dunno if dwight had arrived at that point. kind of struck me as similar characters; so i wonder, as well, how abraham will be portrayed on the show, because he definitely had an air of the dixon bros about him. was also one of my favourite characters, was gutted when he bit it.

i personally still really like daryl; think he has undergone a great deal of growth. i definitely see where you are coming from, but he is no less badass when it comes to crunch time, really.

What I love about the Walking Dead tv show is how it is drawing in people who are not zombie or horror fans. My parents are not into either but are huge fans of The Walking Dead. My father loves the show so much,after season 2 he borrowed my Walking Dead compendium volume 1. Then read the entire thing in a week while deer hunting. It is the first thing he has read in almost 30 years. From talking to the owner of my favorite comic shop,each year after the season ends he has so many people coming in to buy the trades,hardcovers and compendiums. And these are people who are not into comics. It is stuff like that that the comic industry has needed for years. There is only so long the comic industry could survive on the slowly dying fanbase of males ages 20 to 35.

Last two episodes were great. The Lizzy episode floored me. I don't know, it hit something deep - I had to pause and let it out. Completely gut wrenching. Very powerful.

The last episode was way too happy, so Terminus is certainly something very fucked up. That lady has hidden crazy all over her face, which makes it not so hidden, but still.

On the RP+Lizzy crush thing; there's actually little wrong with him recognizing that Lizzy will mature from pretty girl to hot chick. It's not some sign you shouldn't leave him locked in the room with her (which wouldn't work out for him anyway). Guessing the attractiveness of kids/pre-teens is actually common amongst family members, and I wager something that's more relatable than people would outwardly admit. In this case, Lizzy's actress has very mature facial features that I myself noticed, and I think that inspired RP's thoughts. Disney, the super-successful family entertainment empire casts young people on exactly this standard nowadays. For them it's not "Is this kid cute?", it's "Will he/she be hot eventually?" And they're very good at it, too.

Ending this before I derail the thread further, just wanna say that a) Let's not be like other punk-ass forums throwing around heavy terms because we're uncomfortable. I loved tonight's episode. Love seeing glimpses of how the world is. Those shots of the burned Atlanta cityscape were awesome. Seeing these different mindsets of people who aren't part of the usual group is cool, makes Rick and co's struggles seem less arbitrary when you can see other stuff in the world being all fucked. This season keeps kicking ass

Loved the Segway episode this week, interesting to see how other people in the world are getting along. I like Beth and loved the episode of just her and Daryl, so enjoyed this one.
