IGN will be revealing a lot of info about the game during this month as part of their "IGN First" feature.
You can expect to see plenty of exclusive, muscle-infused content, including first-ever gameplay, behind the scenes pieces with WWE Superstars, exclusive roster reveals, and much more. It’s going to be a good old fashioned sports-entertainment/video game slobber-knocker, and the only place to get any of it will be right here, on IGN First.

Fuck all that, did they improve upon the meta-game? I want a deeper playing experience that I feel truly rewarded about upon mastery of it. There has to be a way to balance simplicity for beginners and a richer simulation experience for the mature and ripened player. Wrestling is all about the drama, psychology, and story being told and that is the perfect place to flesh out an awe-inspiring and all-encompassing gaming experience for those who want to do more than 1000 finishers, flips, and weapon moves. There is a reason Hogan/McMahon at WMXIX is a better match and more memorable than Hardy vs Hardy at WM25.

One of the things they've always overlooked was how WM doesn't feel like WM. No major build or anything. Just another ppv that might as well be In Your House or Over the Limit. Kinda the same issue the Madden franchise has or used to have (depending on who you ask) when it came to any regular season game vs the Super Bowl. I want a career mode that does what Steele talked about. I want replay value, damnit.

I've never gotten any long-term storylines in Universe mode, and they could easily scrap it all together. I just do exhibition storylines in my head since creating shit in Create Mode takes too fucking long and all the ones in Community Creations are either fuck-off hard or comedy ones. I remember spending hours on a comedy one about Michael Cole and then it wouldn't let me upload it over some stupid shit.

Year on year, Yuke's has consistently found ways to make their WWE games more dense and feature complete, and from the first details we've gotten on WWE 2K15, that trend is going to continue. Let’s take a broad overview of just what you can expect from this year's outing in the squared circle – both on last-gen and current gen – starting with the new story mode, 2K Showcase.
Last year, WWE 2K14 electrified with its sprawling campaign mode, 30 Years of Wrestlemania. 2K15 is looking to tell a more focused, up-close-and-personal story than the broad historic view offered in 2K14. 2K Showcase will be broken up into two episodes, each one focusing in tightly on an epic rivalry from the WWE’s past. Think of them as mini-documentaries of a sort. Could it be Rock vs Austin? Undertaker vs the DEMON Kane? 2K hasn't spilled the beans just yet, but rest assured we'll be the first to know, and when we do, so will you. If the excellent 30 Years of Wrestlemania was any indication, though, the authenticity of the presentation will make these rivalries a treat to play through.
In addition to reliving these golden WWE memories, you'll finally have a true, discreet career mode for your created wrestlers in MyCareer. This mode has been lifted from NBA 2K14 and adapted to the WWE environment. While I didn't think the mode had the right synergy with the NBA, the WWE seems like a logical place to apply it. Imagine replacing all those cheese-ball, amateur hour characters and cutscenes with authentically voiced and mo-capped WWE Superstars. You get the picture. Exact details of the mode are still forthcoming, but we do know that it will be on the current-gen version only. Sorry, 360/PS3 stalwarts.
No matter what version you play, though, you'll get to enjoy the fruits of Visual Concepts' involvement. Over 50 days worth of motion capture sessions went on at 2K's state-of-the-art mo-cap facility, where WWE Superstars spent hours getting their signature moves digitally recreated. All told, WWE 2K15 features five times (FIVE TIMES! FIVE TIMES!) the animation data of 2K14. Thankfully, just as much effort has gone into improving the way the game sounds, the color commentary in particular. Over four times as many lines were recorded this time around, which should go a long way towards spicing up what has consistently been one of the franchise's presentational low points.
So that's what you can expect in terms of new features and modes. As we get more face time with the game, we'll be diving in deeper on many of these additions, and of course, bringing you footage and detailed impressions of how things differ once you're actually in the ring. Be sure to head here regularly for a steady stream of new IGN First content on WWE 2K15 throughout the month.

Thoroughly enjoying my XBone and still have the 360 hooked up as well. Only have a couple games for One, by choice, but there are a few titles I would like to pick up right now if it weren't for other factors.
This fall will be a great time to have next gen if you are in it for the games. If you are referring to wait until devs learn to fully utilize the systems, you will be waiting another year or two, at the very least. People tend to forget how prior generations were not "ZOMG" right out of the box at launch.

Am I right in thinking/assuming that the "Hulkamania" Edition will be pretty limited because of the canvas that's being included in the bundle?
The plaques on WWEShop that include a piece of canvas are always labelled as being limited, so I don't think this will be any different. It makes sense though, if you think about it.
The piece of canvas will have to be a decent size to make you want it, and you can only cut the canvas a certain amount of times before the pieces that are offered become too small and insignificant.

Earlier this week we got our very first glimpse of what WWE 2K15 is going to look like on current-gen hardware, and it sure was pretty. At least, about as pretty as John Cena grimacing in anger can be. I was pretty sure I spied Orton-butt in that picture, and lo and behold, that has been officially confirmed today with two screens of Orton in ring, ready to face off with John Cena.
http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2014/08/Orton_1.jpg
It's pretty much the reverse shot of the Cena image. Also much like the Cena image, the detail is a huge step up from what we saw in 2K14 on last-gen hardware. For good measure, we get one more of Orton being the arrogant show-off that he is:
http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2014/08/Orton_2.jpg
Yup, The Viper is looking pretty good. It may be worth noting that these screens have been specifically marked "work in progress" by 2K, where the Cena shot was not. Comparing the two, you may notice that there is no audience of any kind behind Cena, but in the first Orton shot, there appears to be what I can only imagine is a placeholder audience behind him, which may be why the shots were labeled as such.
Either way, it's exciting to see WWE 2K15 getting the current-gen, Visual Concepts treatment. Hopefully it looks just as good in motion when I play it, which should be very soon. Be sure to check back on Monday and Tuesday for more on WWE 2K15.

That too.
I definitely want to see a new gameplay engine, though I might be convinced to buy if they added a lot more moves. That was a problem in the last couple. Everyone having the same moves with the same animations.
I know real life move sets aren't that diverse, but games of yesteryear, guys would have their own animations for the same move, with the subtle nuances they applied in real life.
We used to complain about 30 versions of the vertical suplex being in the game, but looking back now, I'd much rather have that, than seeing the same exact animation in every god damn match.

Basically, you play as CM Punk through the standard Career Mode/Universe Mode/whatever it's going to be. Every week, you get an option to "Walk". If you don't, you get a "Congratulations" screen and a really fucked up storyline unfolds for you to partake in. This is your "Thanks for not Quitting". You make it through this said scenario, you unlock something (Extra stuff in Create Modes). Then you're back to Career/Universe Mode. Only now, the controls have changed and you start struggling in matches and lose some big matches you'd think CM Punk would win. Now, the option to "Walk" is in the normal menu screen and can be used at any time.
Should you choose "Walk", CM Punk is gone and you get to choose someone else to use. Once in awhile, you get a cutscene to CM Punk at home and you get the option to "Come Back". A mini-Game pops up and this decides whether you come back as a monster face or as a pissed off, self-loathing, "I didn't have anymore money and HAD to come back" type character. Then it's back to Career Mode/Universe with CM Punk if you chose to have him come back, then more screwed up scenarios and options to "Walk" again.
Romors of a "Hot Coffee" scenario with AJ Lee have been scrapped, as of this writing. :(

WWE 2K15: FIRST HANDS-ON -- IGN FIRST
Yuke's' franchise heads in a new direction.
BY: VINCE INGENITO
AUGUST 12, 2014
Ever since 2K and Visual Concepts picked up the long-running WWE video game series, fans have wondered: how will the game change? Can Visual Concepts – working with longtime developer Yuke’s – do for WWE what they did for NBA basketball? How will WWE 2K15 feel in the ring when my hands are wrapped around controller? At long last, I have the answers I’ve been looking for.
If I were forced at gunpoint to describe what I played in one word, it would simply be “different.” Now don’t freak out, that’s not a euphemism of some kind. I’m not grasping for a polite way to tell you that Yuke’s and Visual Concepts screwed the pooch. In fact, I really dig the direction 2K15 is taking the franchise. It’s a very clear step down a path that few wrestling games have ever walked. I’m here to tell you that WWE 2K15 is, for lack of a better term, a wrestling sim.
Don’t get me wrong: it hasn’t turned into something so complex to play that casual fans won’t know what’s going on. But the balance, pacing, and weight of everything has been tuned to fall more in line with the actual performances you see on Monday nights. Some of this comes down to little things, like the height of the ropes (which has never been accurate, by the way). But there are also a good deal of big things – new systems and mechanics that drastically change the way you play wrestling games.
Take the grappling system as an example. Just go ahead and eliminate any thought you had about walking up to your opponent at the start of a match and just delivering a DDT or a backbreaker because they failed to counter it. That’s just not how a match in the WWE starts, so when you press the grapple button in the early stages of a match in WWE 2K15, it initiates the new chain wrestling system.
Wrestling fans know the drill: the two wrestlers go right into a classic collar-and-elbow lockup to jockey for position. It starts like rock, paper, scissors – with each player pressing one of three face buttons, and the winner advancing to a more advantageous position. From here, both players play what is essentially a lock-picking game, rotating the right stick until they find the “sweet spot,” and holding it there to improve their respective situation. During this time, the player with advantage can land strikes, or even wrench whatever limb they’ve grabbed a hold of. It’s a lot more like the opening stages of a real match than running right up to your opponent for a spine-buster the moment the bell rings.
During this period, you can still do running or standing strikes, as well as Irish whips, so you still have options, but the full extent of the grappling game doesn’t open up until some decent damage has been dealt. Speaking of strikes, I criticized WWE 2K14 for how silly its super-speedy attack chains looked, but I won’t be able to say the same of 2K15. Strikes come out at a speed more in line with how actual people punch and kick, making attack chains more deliberate and satisfying to land. It makes exchanges a lot less breezy, but is a fight between two 300+ pound men supposed to be breezy?
Grappling has undergone another key change: the four intermediary grapple stances are gone. Once you’re out of the opening chain-wrestling phase, you just press or hold the grapple button along with a direction to launch right into a move. You can still do a basic headlock to set up rudimentary moves, and the returning limb targeting system, but your core grappling moves will come right from standing. Again, this just makes sense. Once the “feeling out” period is over, how often do guys put one another into a specific hold before doing a suplex? They don’t; they just do it.
I wish I could be a Paul Heyman guy. :(
Many subtle elements serve that same theme of, “Does that happen?” Animations were captured in a full, regulation-size ring this year, and all the in-game rings were rebuilt to proper scale to compensate. It changes how wrestlers look compared to their surroundings, how fast they get to the ropes off an Irish whip, and how they climb the turnbuckle. All these subtle things that have been wrong for so long are finally right, and while no one thing truly pops, the sum of it all is a more believable match.
It doesn’t end there, either. 2K15 packs a new stamina system that you absolutely must manage if you want to succeed. Running in circles around the ring to escape your opponent might seem like a fun way to troll someone online, until you’ve burned your wrestler out to the point of no return and you’re throwing spaghetti-armed punches for the rest of the match. That might not sound like the fun you want to have with your wrestling game, but it’s the exact kind of thoughtful limitation that I’ve been missing – the kind that has always kept matches from truly mimicking the storytelling and psychology of the matches I grew up loving.
Me too, John. Me too.
For some fans, these changes are going to sound scary, but for me, they’re exactly what I’ve been missing for years. The central question I always ask when playing any game is, “What meaningful choices am I getting to make right now?” And as much as I’ve played and loved WWE games over the years, the answer has usually been, “Not many.” But with this departure in form, I think that’s going to change for me this year, and that has me excited to play more.

I love the idea of starting with the typical back and forthhammerlock type stuff that's in a real match, I just don't know how well it will work with a rock/paper/scissor system.
I like the idea of a more true to life ring, where Big Show can't to the top rope in 0.3 seconds.
Still need to see all this in action.
It's SummerSlam this weekend, think we'll get some footage?

You're always going to get Rock & Austin, and eventually Triple H, blame the Attitude era, but to the casual fan all the guys you listed are more recognizable than half the current roster. And they may as well milk the Legends contracts even if it's the same Legends pretty much year in year out.

<font color=goldenrod>Heath Slater is the one "current roster" guy I'm fussed about. Regardless of when the cutoff was, he's been on TV seemingly every week since like 2012. His exclusion leads me to believe that 3MB wouldn't have made the cut even if they were still around, which is shocking considering some of the guys that did make it.
I'll be very bummed if there's no Rusev, Bo Dallas, etc. in the main game as well (not counting DLC). I would have pegged those guys for DLC initially but 2K outwardly stating that they had a later cutoff this year led me to think people who debuted soon after WM would make it in.
The other current guys are no great loss. I love Christian but he's practically retired it seems. Zack Ryder and Sin Cara have done nothing. I would have liked Los Matadores to beef up the tag division but realistically I don't know how much I would have used them.
Booker T, Ric Flair, and Kevin Nash were on the WWE.com list but not on the WWE 2K15 website, so I'm assuming there is going to be a proper legends reveal later. Vince will be in, he always is. Edge getting in wouldn't shock me either, he's one of only about 4 people left to be in every game so far. Oh and there is going to be a retro version of Triple H, his render was already shown.
I've never liked Legends being in these games and have said I could happily do without them, but at this point I've accepted that it's never going to happen.</font>

<font color=goldenrod>I've never liked Legends being in these games and have said I could happily do without them, but at this point I've accepted that it's never going to happen.</font>
Ditto.
I've never really played as the Legends in past games, but when I do, I always face other Legends.
I really don't care about them as I've never really wanted to play a match and see Yokozuna vs Jack Swagger or Jimmy Snuka vs Brock Lesnar or whatever. They just seem pretty pointless to me and their slots could have went to the guys who are actually on the active roster.
Another thing I've never liked, but what I probably dislike more than Legends, is older versions of a wrestler getting their own slot. It's slowly grown and grown to a point now where it's "normal" to have a massive chunk of the games roster, be filled with older versions of wrestlers.

I can see why there were so many for WWE '13, as it was based around The Attitude Era. But with so many doubles, alongside guys like Val Venis, X-Pac, Too Cool and so on, why didn't THQ just make a game based solely on The Attitude Era, with no current guys on the roster? Sort of like a "WWF Attitude 2" or "WWF No Mercy 2", so to speak. That probably would have sold quite well, and they could have also released WWE '13 that would feature the current guys.
As for 2K14, a game which I've barely touched, I just want to point out that the entire roster (including DLC), consists of more "old" wrestlers, than current wrestlers. To me, that's pretty bad.
I just don't get their infatuation with including former talent in the latest games, when we could finally have a game that features every single person that's on the current roster and some from NXT. :-\

It's not even their fault. 2k are the ones holding out. Likely because there's still a lot of work to be done on the game. Don't forget, they were originally planning a March release before having to bump it up to October. No doubt that played havoc with the game's development.
At this point, I'm thinking it could very well end up a rush job, and I'm anticipating 2k16 a lot more, since they'll have more time to get things right.

Remember when we didn't have access to so much pre-release information on games? Usually all you would get is a preview in a magazine and that would be it, must have driven you guys nuts.
I would have thought they would have released a bit more information by now but as long as I see a few more screen shots and information regarding gameplay, I'll be happy.

Yeah, but even back then you'd get those previews well before the game came out. And for annual titles it's typical to hold off on info til later, but this is still well outside of the norm given how little we've gotten. Those videos weren't even supposed to be shown, as video was prohibited at that convention. They just got leaked.
I guess another factor is that they were somehow able to get me hyped the last couple years, and while I enjoyed those games somewhat, they didn't end up meeting my expectations. So I'm going in this year very cautious.

<font color=goldenrod>Game Informer preview, although nothing earth shatteringly different from what we've already heard:</font>
WWE 2K15 is making it's way to the new generation of consoles this fall and with it there are a number of changes coming to the franchise. I recently got a chance to see a full presentation by gameplay producer Mark Little who highlighted a number of changes. The Visual Concepts team is now essentially the lead developer for the game with assistance from long time developer Yukes. With that, you can feel the 2K influence in the game right away.
Visual Concepts has redone the entire lighting, crowd and arenas. You can see the improvements immediately when you first fire the game up. The crowd now has kids in it, you'll see people taking pictures with their cellphones, as well as multiple other lighting improvements making the game look like a WWE broadcast.
The wrestlers have not only been face scanned but also fully body scanned. I asked Mark Little about what was done to wrestlers they were unable to scan for whatever reason and he responded with they were done the old fashioned day with photo reference when putting a wrestler in the game, adding "We are able to borrow some of the information from scan data even on to people who don't scan".
Little went on to say that 90% of the roster on the game was full body scanned, which is great news. I followed up asking about the roster models for some characters who recently had recent changes and I used the former Shield members Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, he didn't answer the question at this time but left me with, "Obviously we do our best to keep everyone up to date".
I did ask if John Cena gets a new shirt can we see that in an update a week or so later. Mark stated that it's in the plans, maybe not for 2K15 but "It's in 2K's DNA" to have roster updates to match TV.
The development team has spent more time on commentary than any previous cycle, as WWE 2K15 now has five times the amount of commentary as any previous WWE game. Most of the commentary had Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler in the booth together to create more fluid commentary. In my limited time of gameplay, I didn't notice any new commentary outside of the 2K Showcase but that could also just be a demo detail at this point, my build only had John Cena, Goldust, Randy Orton and Cesaro in the build.
For the team to capture gameplay at the most realistic level to date, WWE actually shipped 2K Sports an authentic size WWE ring for the mo-cap studio. Motion capturing was done over 40 days and the result is WWE 2K15 has five times the animation data over any previous WWE game. It really shows when you see the entrances of the superstars as all of them looked stunning in person and in HD. Then to see little things in the ring with new moves and animations I've never seen before, like a downed wrestler using the ropes to get up or getting up on one knee due to being tired.
There are real physics now which affect you when you collide with the ropes as well instead of them just being there and moving. The game really looks good in person. Another new animation I noticed was you can go to the inside 2nd turnbuckle now to do a move, such as Bret Hart's diving elbow.
A stamina meter has been added to the game as well. It's a blue bar that as you run, do moves, get beat up, etc slowly drains down to the point when you are just tired out. I was concerned about it as I've felt it's never truly worked correctly in previous games but after playing the game I really had no issues with it.
The stamina meter is not nearly as drastic as I feared and actually helps add the realism to the game that 2K is striving for. I asked if the stamina meter can be turned off, and the answer is no. The reason for that decision is that there is animation data which occurs, especially with long matches, that can only be seen with lower stamina to add to the realism. There will be a slider to tweak stamina for users though.
A big feature that we've all wanted for a long time is true weight detection. Now Rey Mysterio is unable to body slam Big Show or toss him around the ring. All of the wrestlers have more of a weight to them now in the ring and 2K wants every character to feel unique and different. This is a big move that will help this game feel like a WWE event each time we play it.
The biggest change you feel right away is the chain wrestling which starts most matches. It limits you out of doing big moves right at the start and getting into a natural flow of gameplay. I know this was a big concern out there for many fans of the game but rest assured that after I played it, I was in love with the new mechanic. The game gives a nice tutorial at the start (which can be turned off, as can the entire HUD if you want) to ease you into the new gameplay.
When you do the collar and elbow tie up to start the match you have one of three button presses to make, which then determine which true lock up you do and these are set up like rock, paper, scissors where you basically hope your pick is better than your opponents. If you then get the upper hand, it's your turn to chain it into the next move. You simply move the right stick in a circular motion until you find the sweet spot and you hold it there. You know when you have it as the controller vibrates and the meter fills up red. It's very much the same feel of the lock picking mini-game in Skyrim. This works both ways as the opponent is also trying to find their sweet spot. Whoever does it first gets the advantage for the next string. Now if you are the offensive wrestler to start, you can punch or wrench down on the opponent to break up their sweet spot and have it reset. Once this happens 1 or 2 times the match moves on as normal and we would expect it, just a more realistic start to the match. Wrestlers like the Big Show won't even do a chain grapple however and will start off without it as it's not their style. This further adds to roster feeling very unique between each wrestler.
Another new change is now R1 or RB switches between signature move and finisher if you have both stored up, something we've all wanted for a long time. Along with that, you may have noticed from the leaked videos a percentage for each wrestler displayed, that is their momentum. A signature move requires 100% and 150% is your finisher. Momentum does reset during the match but grows quicker as matches wear on. It's basically what we had before in the WWE series but now with an actual number to see how close you are to getting your big moves.
If you were a fan of the breaking point submissions, well, I have some bad news. They are gone, replaced with a whole new meter which I didn't really get to play around with much. Hopefully this explained in future previews of how it's fully working. Another change is the wake up taunt has been replaced with a charged finisher, it essentially works the same except now you hold down the finisher button to have your wrestler get in position to do their finisher when your opponent gets up. It flows much better than it did in previous games. And never fear, catapault finishers are still in and fully working in tact. Also, I did the big swing with Cesaro in his match and yes, it's an OMG moment. Which tells me that we will see more OMG moments in this year's iteration as well. Excited to see what other moves could be an OMG moment, Roman Reigns jumping boot outside maybe?
The 2K Showcase was very impressive, and has the same production values as the previous Wrestlemania storylines we saw in WWE 2K14. I got to play the CM Punk vs. John Cena feud which had a great opening video laying out the feud. The first match is Money in the Bank in 2011 beginning the Summer of Punk where Punk was trying to win the WWE Championship and then leave the company with the belt. If you remember the match, it plays out and looks exactly as it did back then. Was a lot of fun to play through and my only disappointment falls into the CM Punk model as you can fully tell that he wasn't full body scanned like the other wrestlers shown in this demo. Either way, it doesn't take away from the game in any way and they have plenty of time to improve upon Punk's model.
In the coming weeks we will hear about My Career (which was teased briefly with taking your wrestler from NXT to WWE to eventual Hall of Fame), Universe Mode, and the Creation Suite. This is the first full cycle that 2K/Visual Concepts has got with the game after the short cycle for 2K14 and then running into the XB1/PS4 console releases shortly after it's release
The 2K/VC dev team is pushing the tag line of "What story will you tell in WWE 2K15" because every match tells a story. This is evident right when you pick up the controller for the first time and dive into the matches. I came into the event skeptical of the changes but left very optimistic and excited to see what is coming next.
WWE 2K15 releases October 28th on PS3/PS4 and Xbox 360/Xbox One

<font color=goldenrod>The weight detection stuff is worrying. People clamored for it year after year and once it was finally put into the game it was botched terribly. I remember not being able to slam Kurt Angle as Gregory Helms. Cruiserweights were utterly useless in that game and The Great Khali was essentially unstoppable.</font>

Hopefully they have a slider for that as well.
That or they could just make it where if you are playing as a superstar that’s within a weight class lower than whoever you’re fighting, you could attempt a slam move on them when your meter is at 100% or 150% by having an alternate button from the Signature/Finisher button that would make you lose that chance at a signature or finishing maneuver for a chance to wear down your opponent as a way to soften them up for a signature/finisher later in the match.
Maybe make it where it’s kind of a minigame where you’re required to successfully match 3-5 on-screen face button prompts to successfully slam the opposing superstar and if you fail they counter, occasionally (but very rarely) even into a pinning situation. Maybe also even have it tie in with the stamina system, where a successful slam might cost a little more stamina to execute than a normal move.
Just a few thoughts I had.

Glad to hear the chain wrestling mechanic is only for guys who actually use chain wrestling.
I like the idea of weight restrictions, but if past examples mean anything, they don't apply to finishers. So, having struggled to even Irish whip Big Show with Rey, you can flawlessly hit the most fluid Hurricanrana to set up the 619.

According to IGN, 2K is to blame for why their plan of WWE 2k14 being the spotlight game for August ended up being somewhat of a letdown. 2K still has delayed most of the preview videos IGN wanted and IGN thinks it might take a few more weeks to get them all.
