There has long been talk of an "Ayer Cut" that..... well, it is probably still bad, but the Snyder Cut people want it cause his "vision" was severely chopped/re-edited in attempts to "Guardians of the Galaxy"fy it.....
Then they just said F it and got the actually director of Guardians for the sequel

Man alive is the philosophical flip flopping in “Gen V” hard on my ears and brain. This is a “Should I kill Hitler?” moment. I should have stopped watching when the minuscule broad climbed that cock but I assumed it would contain some greatness. It has had some moments that flirted with genius, but it is just a kids show with bad words and bare bottoms in it.
I’m now worried that this will bleed into “The Boys”.

Hmmm the ending was a lot better than I expected, I am glad that it all went tits at the crescendo. I wish they hadn’t had so many lame side-stories though. That less annoying blonde whore became truly insufferable by the end, her whole arc is just troughs, the peaks are only hitting the median and it makes me think even less of sad bastard extroverts. If you want to be a sad bastard, be an introvert and lean right into it so that the world doesn’t feel disturbed by your shit show.

“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” is finally streaming.
El Vaquero and Drave this is another very specific Western by Taylor Sheridan so you will want to see it at some point.
I have seen one episode, it looks and feels like it will head in the right direction, it was allegedly going to join the Yellowstone/1883 universe but Sheridan decided against it in pursuit of a more faithful and coherent storyline. Already he is mixing fact with supposition and it is a sight to see.
The cast in the first episode is lead by three actors who have all earned an will likely deliver a career masterpiece. Barry Pepper in particular, he really has had a long and storied career. It’s just excellent casting to put him up against Oyelowo and to put Oyelowo up with Wigham earlier. I imagine the series follows Oyelowo as he tracks Pepper given the circumstances of the opener, but it’s a weekly 8-parter so it has plenty of hours left to go.
I’m watching episode 2 tonight, if it isn’t spectacular I will be surprised.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves is shaping up to be just shy of eternal greatness but right up there with the best intentioned and well realised efforts in the TV western genre.
It is not 1883, but it isn’t over yet. It is easily 3.5/4.
I hope this spawns a bunch of “Lawmen:” type series. So many great historical figures to choose from. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Taylor Sheridan will do Hickock some justice. Only “Deadwood” dared attempt it, and a worthy claim it has to best ever representation.

The show existed in a perpetual jump-the-shark state, and that was fine. But for some reason, I reached the end of my tether in the final season. What was once enjoyable dreck made me wonder why I'd ever given it the time of day.
It's interesting--Koppelman and Levien wrote Rounders which is a classic for guys like us. Dunno if it's like a masterpiece but definitely a highly revered movie of our formative years. I guess where I'm getting is I wonder if Billions would've been better and less an over-the-top piece of shit if it was just a mini-series or movie.
I don't wanna give the wrong idea here. I loved watching it, even after Damian Lewis left. Giammati does a lot with the silliness and I can watch him all day as Chuck "named after Dusty" Rhoades. It's just...season 7 was kinda like, "whoa was it actually this insufferable the whole time?"
Also, I think Succession coming out during Billions's run really made it look bush league as fuck. Filet mignon versus a Happy Meal cheeseburger. It basically just becomes Suits, which also sucks.

The dialogue is so painfully expository at times that I’m glad the action is so tremendous. It’s pretty tongue in cheek but at the same time no amount of nods and winks to the audience can overcome the slog that is the interplay between characters at times.
The best thing about the books is the lack of dreary dialogue, it’s mostly just paragraphs of description but I suppose that would make for a terribly dull show.

I'm also three episodes into a mini-series, The English, which is another revisionist western. I've finished Bass Reeves.
It's not up there with 1883; I felt it lost its way in the latter stages, and had some sub-plots that were either underdeveloped or went nowhere. However, I still enjoyed it. David Oyelowo was great in his role, as was Barry Pepper.

You are right about it growing increasingly directionless towards the end. There is a sub plot involving the daughter that dead ends in the strangest way with absolutely no resolution and the ending had me annoyed that so much history was set aside so they could do the old Mandingo/Django red herring. It was still very good though, you have to give the credit to Oyelowo for it.

Also finished it over "break" and have largely the same-held thoughts. I leaned more into the narrative of how he was dealing with himself and his actions, and couldn't have cared less about the daughter sub-plot that seemed like every other story about race relations in America at that time.
Still, he did a HELLUVA job in his role.

Didn't realize Archer season 14 was on (Canada) Netflix. Watched the full season in 3 sittings. For the ups and downs the show has gone through during the "coma seasons", I always have enjoyed the show. Jessica Walter's sendoff at the end of season 12 was done really really well. I thought this season was pretty good. The last episode seemed a bit anticlimactic but apparently there's a 3-episode "finale event" called Into the Cold that I guess concludes things even after the 8 episode season. Going to have to wait for that to show up on Netflix or just stream it somewhere else. Gotta see how that shit all ends up.
In a similar note, been slow-burning the last season of Letterkenny. Just finished episodes 4 and 5 last night. Not sure I am emotionally ready for the finale that we'll likely watch tonight. :'(

I was always more of a TNG fan growing up because my dad watched (and taped! on VHS!) while growing up. But started watching DS9 over the past year or two and I think I'm more of a fan of that show overall. Feels more "grounded" and the interactions between characters is fantastic. Samesies with TNG.... Feel like as a kid DS9 was "too serious" for me and was like "they only stay in one place? ugh, boring" so I never watched a lot.
Season 1 was not great but I think I could definitely appreciate it a lot more. Meanwhile, TNG after the first 2/3 seasons has been gold, and I also appreciate it a lot more as an adult.
Also "cool", but also sad, to see some of the "moral dilemma" or "questions" raised on the shows still be relevant to discussions today.

I'm half way through season 2 of Community and it remains glorious.
After buying it 6-7 years ago, I've finally started the first season of Boardwalk Empire. I'm two episodes in and I'm not entirely sold on it. Also, what is up the opening credits theme music? It is perhaps the blandest HBO theme music I've ever heard. As my appreciation for a show/film, up to a certain point, is dependent on the music, this is probably why I'm a bit 'meh' towards the show at the mo.

I'm coming to the end of season 5 of Community. With the exception of the MeowMeowBeenz episode, which is fantastic (and I love the Logan's Run aspect of it), the show is past its prime.

Liam McIntyre did as admirably as anyone could have after Andy Whitfield died. He was a bit like Chadwick Boseman in that his career had only just taken off right when he passed away.
Hannah Mangan Lawrence was so hot in season two… absurdly attractive woman. Never seen her since. Probably retired to have kids or whatever. Bring her back!

I watched season 1 of that show and enjoyed the payoff, but I never watched beyond that. The first half I remember being a huge bummer. But I kept watching cuz of John Hannah and my thirst for gladiator TV. And the latter half of the season went whole hog, and I was left satisfied.

I finished the sixth and final season of Community.
By this point, the show has long past its peak. I felt for the most part that I was only watching this season out of the need to be a completist. Seasons 1 and 2 will always reign supreme, and should be watched by all.
Moving on, I attempted to watch the new Amazon series, Mr & Mrs Smith, but I didn't get past the first episode. I just found it tedious.

“Letterkenny” is an outstanding sitcom. The lead, the hockey kids and the meth guys are all superb. It’s only weakness is the over-egging of good jokes. They do the “let’s give funny examples one after another” routine way too often but the rest is pretty much gold.

The sister is pretty lame and the rapid-fire patter is better left to the hockey kids because it fits better with them but the delivery from the lead is just perfect a lot of the time. Still watching One Piece. About 4-5 episodes in, quite enjoying it. It still has that same kind of... I dunno, "real action humans seem wooden" kind of feeling, when you're watching something adapted from an animated medium. Never watched the anime much so I can't compare this to that, but it reminds me of how I felt when watching the Netflix version of Cowboy Bebop in like it very distinctly felt like the actors were caricatures emulating another character's movements that were done way better in anime. Does that make sense? Probably not, I haven't had my coffee. But anyway, One Piece is pretty great so far. Will probably start binging the anime once I'm done this Netflix series.
Also started watching the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 revival on Netflix. I always loved the idea of the original show but never watched it religiously. Having a blast with this one. I'm sure MST3k purists will hate it because that's what people do, but it's given me some good laughs

I'm coming to the end of season 2 of Farscape. As much as I enjoy/have enjoyed the various North American sci-fis series produced over the past 20-30 years, Farscape demonstrates how bland and sanitised such shows have been. One Farscape episode has more imagination and character than most shows can muster in their entire run.
Season 2 also employs 3-4 episode story arcs, which really fleshes out a story and allows for more character development. Good stuff.

I'm over the halfway point of season 4 of Farscape. I feel like the show peaked in seasons 2 and 3, and started to drop off once Zhaan left. Season 4, whilst it has had its moments, feels a bit lost.
I'm at the beginning of season 7 of Weeds. When I originally watched the show, years ago, I stopped after season 6. The show hasn't been funny since season 3, and Nancy has become an increasingly dislikeable character. Riveting is the right word and i thought the finale was deftly handled
Going into it i didnt have any clue how you could wrap a show like this up. Life doesnt exactly tie a neat bow around itself but based on a true story does imply its fiction so perhaps they could pull it off. And i think they did.
When he's at the bar and we're given the baby reindeer backstory that sceen, without donnie speaking, play almost like "i understand and i forgive you." They really give her her due in that moment. Then the bartender offers him a drink and the moments that started the show repeat themselves. Saying "yes i forgive you but you permanently stained my soul." And that was a really sophisticated statement. He can choose to forgive her but he fails to forgive himself.
I also feel like they handled a trans chracter well for perhaps the first time ever. No one ever looked into the camera and told the audience what to think. It was meerly "i think hes hot and i dont care that hes a dude." Fair enough. Theyre still a bit bogged down by making the narrative surrounding the character about his transness but its getting much closer to a place where its simply just an underlying aspcet and not a plot point.
All that said every episode was very punchy and i always was left wanting to see what happens next. The acting was great and i think both leads should at least be nominated for emmys. Its a story so outrageous its hard to believe and then also it sounds about right. Really skirts that line. Extremely unique show in a ton of ways that will make it very memorable long term.

I've finished watching the late 1990s/early 2000s satirical show, Brass Eye. It is absolutely ruthless. You couldn't make this show today; it's too close to the bone.
I'm currently watching the first season of The Good Wife. I like it, though I don't know if it is because of the show, itself, or because Julianna Margulies and Archie Panjabi are absolute foxes.

Just binged through that Shane Gillis show on Netflix, Tires. Fell a bit flat for me (ha ha, tire pun). Through the six episodes there were probably about 3-4 jokes that gave me a pretty good laugh, but overall felt a bit disjointed. First season stuff. I'll probably check out season 2 whenever it comes out

I've started the final season of Star Trek: Discovery. The Michael Burnham character remains one of the most irritating, sanctimonious individuals that ST have ever created. I thought Janeway was a pain, but Burnham takes the cake. The identity politics ideological lecturing also persists, but at this point, I've learned to just roll my eyes when they indulge in it. I'm just going to get through it, and then never watch the series ever again.
I'm also coming to the end of season 1 of The Good Wife. I like it enough to continue on to the next season.

I hear so many polarizing/negative things about Discovery. Fiancee loves everything Trek so I've watched a few episodes with her. There was an early episode where they were like "Do you want to be remembered as other visionaries such as the Wright Brothers or Elon Musk?" and it felt really hamfisted and stupid lol

I'm on to the final season of The Good Wife. It feels like it has lost its way now, but remains stronger than you would expect it to be. I think that is down to the change in tone/style in season 5, which gave it a spark life. However, that has now waned. I'll probably watch its spin-offs, The Good Fight and Elsbeth.
I've nearly finished fourth season of The Boys. It has been kind of something and nothing.

I finished The Good Wife, and I'm now on the final season of The Good Fight. I've liked this spin-off series, even though the seasons during the Trump administration leaned hard into the Trump Derangement Syndrome and far-left identity politics. At least they explored the issues inside out and refrained from too much lecturing. However, I don't think this spin-off will age as well as The Good Wife, due to the identity politics.
Once The Good Fight is over, I'm going to watch the other Good Wife spin-off, Elsbeth, which is apparently like Columbo.
I re-watched season 1 of the GoT: House of the Dragon, and then proceeded to watch season 2. Whilst the second season remained watchable, it seemed to meander for much of it. Hopefully, season 3 will have more impetus to it.

It's simple and doesn't break any new ground, but it's done so well. The series is the best show I've seen in awhile. I'll have to go back to the bollocks that is La Brea until I discover something else.

All caught up to present day on Superman and Lois..... Season 4 definitely feeling weird via them axing all the main cast sans the main Super-family..... the supporting cast has shown up, but not in every episode, and sometimes some show up and you wonder why others wouldn't be there....
Have also noticed a distinct rise in flashbacks... I guess with a slashed budget and only so many actors to use you have to stretch it out....
But overall S4 has been good I guess... obviously some v emotional moments... and badass Lex Luthor....

I've finished Snowpiercer. While I found the first two seasons interesting and entertaining, from the start of the third season onwards my attention started to wane, and by the end of the show I really didn't care. I only kept watching because I have inappropriate (but legal) thoughts about Rowan Blanchard. I also came to the conclusion, at some point in season 3, that none of them really deserved to survive.
I've started the mini-series, The Regime, with Kate Winslet. It is supposed to be some form of satire, but everything seems to fall flat. I'm only two episodes in, so perhaps it will improve.

As I have my Paramount+ subscription, I'm also revisiting the 'proper' Star Trek series: TNG, DS9 and Voyager.
