I figured that instead of making a new thread for a certain show only a few of us may be watching, we could just gather here and discuss and maybe recommend shows also...

Really glad Better Call Saul is back. Anyone else watching season 3?

Been meaning to catch up on Bates Motel also. I've only watched the first season but I always forget to catch up

we got rid of cable but we have Hulu and all the other hip streaming platforms so right now all we watch is Master Chef, Little Big Shots and random seasons of The Biggest Loser. i'm 33 and I have television habits of 50+ year old women.
In my defense, having a new baby kinda keeps me too busy for much TV...excited for Americas Got Talent to come back.

Watch the CW DC shows, Gotham, Shield, Legion. Pretty much all the comic book shows that are not on Netflix. I'll watch the Walking Dead but I'm not real big on it. Really enjoyed Preacher on AMC though. Taboo on FX was good and I await its return. Been watching Brockmire on IFC and its pretty damn funny but it season finale is this week I think.

in terms of on going shows:

Gotham
Better Call Saul

Both shows have had really good seasons relatively speaking this time around. Been enjoying both.

I just finished up Riverdale a couple days ago and it was decent for what it was, glad I watched it but I dunno about re-watch value.

Re-watching:

I re-started Person of Interest from the beginning because I loved that show and wanted to watch it right through. I pop on some Simpsons here and tere as well, mainly like early teens in terms of seasons.

American Housewife-Best new sitcom this season.
The Walking Dead-Pretty much the only show I watch live.

Was decent but felt the same way with Live Another Day in that it could have been a lot better with some big changes or tweaks made to the series formula.

Considering the series is on indefinite hiatus again, going to assume Fox weren't big fans of Legacy.

They definitely had a good cliff hanger this year. Interested in seeing how jack is presented and of course they have a huge crossover coming next season. Who is it with? Arrow? Nope. Flash? Nope. Scooby-Doo? You betcha!

Finally watched the last two episodes of Into the Badlands...... had put off watching them because I knew I'd have to wait until the next season after they were done.....

Hot Damn.

Some great action and imagery going on.

Really liked Quinn's whole religious zealot vibe he had going on this season. Total badass too. Impaled with a sword two times and still standing.....

Will miss him.... great heel..... RIP

I hope they can bring in someone else to replace him as top heel..... Don't think The Widow is ready for that spot.....

RIP Vale too, I guess. That old clipper that Sunny got that badass sword from was right. Heartbreaking to see Sunny cry.....

Glad Bajie didn't die. I guess he could still succumb to his wounds, but I hope not. Nick Frost was a great addition this season.

Last television show I watched was the excellent Feud. Tells the story about the bitter feud between screen legends Bette Davis & Joan Crawford which came to a head on the set of the 1962 b mystery thriller Whatever Happened To Baby Jane. Susan Sarandon (Davis) & Jessica Lange (Crawford) are superb as the two bitching movie doyens. Who has seen this superb 4 parter?

Binge watching Boardwalk Empire right now.

I had seen season 1 which was excellent but I picked up the box set recently and dived in. Season 2 was a slog. Far too much focus on the families of the interesting characters and an entirely different vibe. I have no interest in children, maternity or the plight of kept women in the 1920's. I am interested in guns, booze and what happens when they go together.

Season 3 has been an improvement but I doubt it will get back to the heights of the first season. It's all about Richard Harrow and Eli for me now, also I would enjoy much more Julianne Nicholson and Michael Shannon. Julianne Nicholson is so far and away the most interesting female character that it's just stupid for her to be anything other than a main character.

I have spent a little bit of time looking up masks for disfigured soldiers in WW1. Richard Harrow is one of those rare and brilliant characters that can keep me watching a disappointing show.

The only interesting family storyline is the psycho kid. I have to see if/when he will finally do something truly awful.

The final season of Got isn't dog shit. It's just really badly structured due to pointless time constraints so the character progression simply isn't handled appropriately at all. It's not good though. I mean episode 3 is perfect but I can't see how anyone who follows the series could be happy with the rest of the final season.

Build, reward, build, reward, build, reward - that is the structure of the first 6 seasons. The last two were more "build, destroy".

The scene with Michael Shannon and Stephen Graham (George Mueller and Al Capone) at the table is one of my favourite scenes in anything ever. It's so tense yet so funny it could be in The Sopranos.
This show isn't on that level but some of the plot threads owe it a lot. It doesn't hurt that the cast is a who's who of shamefully under rated supporting actors who all belong in lead roles.

Well, maybe not Kelly Mcdonald.

Seanny One Ball

Season 3 was much stronger in the second half. A return to form. Season 4 starts brilliantly, the racist voyeur thing is spectacularly unnerving.
I hope Richard Harrow has a good run this season, Eli too. Chalky White is also a well played, well written character with more depth. I did not love Nucky becoming a gun toting badass at the end of last season. He is not a gun toting badass.

Seanny One Ball
05-25-2019, 05:12 PM
I think Stephen Graham's portrayal of Al Capone is the best I have seen. There are a lot of great characters in this that could easily have been the focus of the show.

I hate to say it but I would have preferred almost any of the main male cast rather than Nucky as the central character.

Westworld is good though. I watched Stranger Things because of a bunch of jag offs said it was great but all I left with was the knowledge that Eleven looks exactly like Sam Huntington in Jungle 2 Jungle.

Season 2 was excellent, just not the tour de force of planning and execution that S1 was. I can only name one truly bad episode and that was the Samurai bullshit.
The side story about William and his family, particularly the father in law is one of the most head-fuckingly brilliant pieces of TV I have ever seen.
I really did enjoy season 2, I had the benefit of hearing a lot of hype and disappointment before I went out of my way to watch it though.

James Marsden was given the short shrift which annoyed me a bit but at least there were lots of logistical aspects to think about and figure out. It's good when a show manages to maintain the rules and stay a step ahead of an alert audience.

Justified is quite possibly my all time favourite show. It's just excellent from start to finish.
Dewey Crowe is one of the all time great comic relief characters ever and Walton Goggins and Timothy Olyphant were made to work with each other.
There honestly isn't a better rounded cast in TV, every season is a joy.

Patton Oswalt is only in Justified a couple of times but his appearances are fucking great too. The Bennett family are so good. It was already in the glass....

I'm currently watching F Is For Family. It's pretty good, oddly very touching in moments between bursts of very broad smut but yeah, a solid show.

Seanny One Ball

Now that I think about it, it's a cartoon and it's not exactly pro-14 year old banging given the way it's fit into the story so I am being daft.

OZ might not be the greatest show ever made, but it's one of the most important with regards to the HBO boom and definitely a catalyst for increasing levels of graphic content in other programming.

I loved Oz, but I watched it as it aired (on Channel 4 in the UK, not sure how delayed that was compared to original airing). I’ve tried to get into The Wire but dropped off in season 3. I doubt that would’ve happened if I’d watched it as it aired.

I loved Lilyhammer.

And, speaking of context, similar to OZ with HBO, it was one of the first "exclusive" shows under the Netflix produciton banner for "original series" selections instead of just swiping premade collections that may or may not be currently running on other networks. It isn't perfect, but it was successful enough to encourage the tread into what would become the cultural juggernaut in House of Cards and go all in on that concept in the years to come.

Thought the first two eps of carnival row sucked honestly but after that its very good

I hear they are looking to reboot Battlestar Galactica (again) and Saved By The Bell.

WTF on both counts!? I loved Saved By The Bell as a child, but that show is going to mean nothing to the kids of today.

You could modernize it pretty easily. The premise is timeless...other than single camera anyhow

It is just so wrong.

First they butcher Transformers, then Ninja Turtles, and now they cast their eyes to Saved by the Bell; is there no part of my childhood these people won't violate.

I heard another report that Battlestar Galactica will not be a reboot, but another story told in that universe.

I do hear that they want to reboot The Office, though....

Finally finished the last season of The Flash and Arrow.... figured I should catch up before the new seasons are upon us....

I'm pretty hyped for Crisis, but also think it might not be too good.

If they are going to pretend to be in Luxembourg, they might want to stop having shots of some of Prague's well known tourist sights.

Season 1 is a wonderfully funny fish out of water story. It doesnt stay strong but def worth a watch.

Orange is a good show with an absolutely horrible protagonist. Taystee is the main character as I watch it. Red isn't half bad either.

I'm only now starting to watch the season before the final season.....

I agree with the horrible protagonist

Putting in spoilers for the benefit of those who are just starting and may not have got there yet...

I lost pretty much all interest in Piper, and a lot in the show in general, when they got rid of Jim from American Pie and it stopped being a "fish out of water" story. I was invested in the story of "can she hold onto a normal life being on the inside", but once that was gone I just became increasingly annoyed by her.

Luckily, other characters became more important and I continued to watch because of them..... but I never was as invested as that original storyline.... (Which is I guess why I didn't feel the dire need to be watching these last two seasons and am only starting now)

The final season is a return to form in a lot of ways and i think its caps piper's journey well

She's a classic narcissist so it's hard to get behind her until she's had her wings clipped right down. It's a brilliantly written show in that it throws you through just about every emotion possible so that even the worst characters are somewhat sympathetic. I think that's the one outstanding similarity it shares with OZ besides the setting.
A perfect example of this is the Amish junkie girl. When you go through her back story her image as an irredeemable baddie is undermined so much so that I remember being quite blown away. Don't even get me started on how well played Pennsatucky's back story is, that's the humdinger of the bunch.

I have to admit I haven't seen any since Poussay died.
That crushed me.

I've got a confession to make, lads, and I'm not proud of it: I'm currently watching the first season of Ally McBeal.

Does this make me as gay, or gayer, than Guru Dave?

Seanny One Ball

No Ally McBeal was pretty good. Greg Germann is fucking incredible in it, an actor who can play weird as well as anyone.
Also Portia De Rossi is tremendous, but she always is.
